I like a two stroke more, but the problem with them is at low rpm, especially for older bikes. If your not in first gear and not in the power band, it will bog for days.

The 2 stroke is in 450's power range, but it's the way it makes it's power that hurts it. It hurts it out of corners, hurts it in slow turns, hurts it out of the gate. Constant state of spinning the tire and changing gears.

I don’t get why people are always shitting on 4 strokes, is it because 4 strokes have better fuel efficiency or how 4 strokes are more durable, or how they need less repairs or how they have more torque at lower rpms because I checked statistics and it shows that 4 strokes are better in quite a few ways, but it’s all personal opinion I guess. I just don’t see why I always see people saying if you have a 4 stroke you’re gay or how “2 stroke is the only correct way to dirtbike”🤷🏻‍♂️

I like both 2 and ; stroke I own both they each have pros and cons..4 strokes are more comfortable to ride and waste less gas, harder to rebuild, easier to wheelie on.. 2 strokes are just crazy fast and waste lots of gas, super fun to ride, easier to rebuild. And they sound way better, less weight. Less moving parts..i have a banshee and a cr250 2 stroke and I really like them, also have a trx450r and 400ex.

2Strokes are Awesoem but 4Strokes are Awesome as well. And I love my Quads and My RZR it's like a Sprint Car for the Dirt Loads of Fun in the Mountains and in the Sand you cant beat the fun!!! Love all my offroad verhicles 2Stroke 4Stroke Rotary Rotax and Even my Sand Rail with a Porsche Motor. It is so fast on the sand it is Scary!!!. Face It Its all Good as Long as you are getting out there and Doing it in the Dirt!!!!! Im 62 and they will have to Pry the Grips out of my Cold Dead Hands.

WPF95 If I may offer you some advice as a old man that's been riding since age 7 I started out on a honda mini trail 50 4t then back in the 80's 2 strokes were a lot more popular for racing MX + I liked them a lot more so I got a 81 suzuki rm-80 smoker then a 84 rm-125 a few street & trail 4 strokes then a 98 rm-250 2t now at my ripe age of 46 + being a grandfather I decided to go with a 2011 KTM-300 xc because I love 2 strokes however in this day & age + depending on the riding experience you have + how much $$$ you can afford to invest in a fairly expensive hobby then I would probably go with a 2-stroke at first & NOT because thats what I decided to buy in 2011 but because 2- strokes nowadays imho will help you learn or re-learn the skills of riding,racing or whatever your goals are for buying a dirt bike? On a 2-stroke you definitely shift gears more often than on a 4-stroke & a top end rebulid is a good bit cheaper on a 2-stroke. However I sometimes wish that I would have just bought a KTM-450xc which isn't a MX bike as it's more of a cross country or enduro bike which at my age,health & time its best for me to do more enduro offroad riding? Just some things to think about before dropping 8 to 10k maybe even more on a dirt bike. i love both 2-strokes as well as 4-strokes..Good luck with your decision..

Thanks for the reply jeff, I kind of regretted asking the question after I posted it because I thought I would get ripped on for asking. I think I'm going to go with 2 stroke to start out on since they're easier to work on I think that would help give me a lot of hands-on experience and satisfaction that I did the work that I love getting when I work on my Bronco plus I really love that BRAAP that I hated when I first got interested in Dirt Bikes.

2 strokes; always something goes wrong with them to end your riding early. Sure they got the power and top end to get out of the hole quick, but they're temperamental without showing it, and'll start eating rings before the day's done. Get your kids introduced into 4 strokes for the experience and less headache, lot easier to ride for beginners and novices too.

Wouldn't it be a better competition if you had a yz 250 2 stroke and yz450f OR a Yz 250f and a yz 125.. that is how the AMA classes run.. you can't ride a 250 2 stroke in the 250f class but correct me if I'm wrong... Think about it it though a 2 stroke dirtbike fires exactly half the time a 4 stroke does so that would make it more fair...

In AMA amateur racing a 250 two stroke and a 250F run in the same class now. I wish they would do it in the pros. Any hp advantage a 2 stroke has is made up by the 4 stroke in traction. A New KTM or Husky 250f make 44 hp so they are closing the gap.
