When the state banned consumer fireworks like sparklers and fountains, the demand for fireworks didn’t disappear; people simply turned to dangerous black market alternatives. The best way to prevent individuals from purchasing these hazardous explosives is to provide Hawaii with safer options by allowing consumer-grade fireworks and permitting firecrackers without having to buy permits. The more money people spend on fountains, ground spinners, and sparklers, the less money they will have to spend on powerful dangerous illegal aerial fireworks.

Take a better look at Hawaii Explosives and Pyrotechnics. The company that puts on the legal Waikiki fireworks show every Friday at HHV. The Asian suppliers may be sending way more than what is used so it can be sold at a premium to the dummies blowing up the neighborhoods on Oahu.

On what grounds? People import and hide fireworks among other cargo. There is only so much inspectors to handle it. Even bomb sniffing dogs cannot handle the workload inspections. If you noticed the house where this happened had 10's of thousands in illegal fireworks stored there.

Straub burn unit is already filled from the victims in this incident. They had to transport the rest to Arizona because they're out of beds in the unit.

There is also the requirements of a burn victim. They will graph on skin many many times. That skin comes from donations. Not every person donates and they also have to find matches. Over and over and over. The skin is only used as long as it is alive compatible and preventing infection. Then it is removed and more skin is graphed on. They need a large population to get the donations. it also means operating tables and doctors. That is also of capacity even if they have the beds, nurses and supplies.

You really don't have to tell the public what they died of. It is quite obvious they died from blunt force trauma from the shrapnel of the fireworks. Also many had 2nd 3rd degree burns over much of their bodies. That is why many of them had to intubated to assist with their breathing.
