Imagine that one shrimp was like, “there’s more to this place. There has to be something up that volcano!” Everyone else doubted it. And tried to discourage it after the first two attempts but it didn’t let up. Eventually it made it up the volcano being the first of its name to do so. A true hero of its time.

But, even though it reached the top, a sense of discouragement filled its little heart. It came searching for freedom, but instead he found out the blood-freezing truth. Everything was an artificial environment. The tiny shrimp had lived all its life inside a test tube, and the tip of the volcano was nothing but the first step of an infinite staircase towards freedom. An unachievable goal. And it knew this. It stood there for hours. Days. Weeks. Thinking about life, about its purpose in this vile and cruel game we call life. Was its only purpose to entertain humans? Was its brief life so irrelevant to the greater biosphere? It couldn't tell this to the partners down there, down in the monotonous and boring tank. It accepted its fate. The shrimp would live the rest of its meaningless days with its brainwashed pals until some day that fish would eat its body, thus ceasing its bittersweet existence. And, finally, it let go of the algae from the volcano. For this it sunk, one more time, into the cold water.

@Kuemmel2344 жыл бұрын
That's why you sometimes find dried up amanos on the floor. Downstairs. At some point they dry out. I got a lit once I realized they would do that. Okay everyone is talking about the shrimp moving the duckweed in the comments but what about the shrimp that climbed inside the volcano OUTSIDE of water?? I didn't even know this was possible
@Nphen4 жыл бұрын
It looked like the shrimp was still mostly covered in the water streaming down the volcano. It must have suspected there would be a source for the water streaming down. Now it faces no food competition. Animals, coming out of the water for competitive advantage. Its like watching evolution in real time!

@Daniel-ue5mo4 жыл бұрын
Shrimp in the wild do this regularly to forage and find new food sources, they can be outside of water for a fair amount of time. As another commenter said, it's an evolutionary advantage.

“Duckweed also started to spread” ... it does that. We have an entire pond so thickly covered with duckweed that hungry fish don’t make a hole in it, and ducks won’t land near it. Yep, it spreads. The duckweed wasteland pond started with a few tiny leaves, it was almost cute. Now it’s plotting world domination. Be afraid, be very afraid!!!
@lonnarheaj4 жыл бұрын
Doffy Rob Indeed! The “bloom” occurred after a family member removed all the fish, of which there weren’t many, and completely drained the pond to allow the organic matter (aka: cruddy muddy bottom) to oxidize somewhat so he could raise crawfish. It sounded good in theory anyway. The pond sat dry for quite a while due to drought before rain refilled it. The crawfish never took off, but the duckweed sure did. Now the little pond is a utopia for a wide variety of frogs; which is another indicator of a stagnant body of water. Fortunately, we really love frogs. Even a number of tilapia didn’t make a dent in the duckweed. The only real solution is starting over with a water pump and a backhoe; but re-homing hundreds of frogs would be challenging. 🐸 I’m pondering whether establishing a mail-order duckweed supply business would be viable. Somebody must want the stuff!
