A good thing to note is that sensing something off in your voice is a good thing. Good tone is also about understanding how to apply appropriate vocal tweaks and inflections for what you are singing.

I think it should be mentioned that #1 is very pop-/eurocentric. In different musical styles and traditions, there's definitely different tone and timbre that is sometimes even preferred or simply also popular.

I need more volume, my mom told me. Not to sing from my throat or nose. Sing from my diaphragm, I'm doing that. I hear how I want it to sound. I have a deep voice, according to my mother. It's similar to Faith Evans, Jasmine Sullivan and Anita Baker. (Not sure about the last one). I also keep telling myself, I'm none of these celebrities. I'm me, with my own charisma and style. But stay in my lane, don't do too much. Not untill you learn the basics. So now my home girl is telling me. Keep the tone, it's good. But go higher with your tone and volume, it's like talking. She said, your voice sounds good where it's at. Just go higher from there and drag the note. I'm learning that I have to breath each time. Make my voice softer, know when to change keys. Don't close your throat, I don't know if I'm shy. But I'm trying to sing this pain out. I'm just having a hard time pushing my voice like you just did. What's your suggestion?! 💯
