In this video I show you 2 ways you can use gain vs. volume on the Fender Champion 20. This video will clear up the confusion between these two knobs and will help you dial in the amazing sound you have been searching for (even if you have a different amp)!
Also, If you want the ultimate guide to unlocking your Fender Champion 20's potential, then get the Fender Champion 20 Tone Course: 5-minute-music...
If you would like to get the Fender Champion 20, click here to BUY NOW: amzn.to/2S9lFrp
For more information from Fender about Gain vs. Volume, click here: www.fender.com...
SETTINGS: Remember to have your volume low (try 2) and then slowly increase the GAIN from 1 up to 10. Listen to the difference!
Then, set your gain on low (try 2) and then slowly increase the VOLUME from 1 up to as loud as you want (you might not want to do 10 if you have neighbors)! Again, listen to the difference!
GAIN gives you your tone (whether clean, crunchy, or distorted), while VOLUME takes that tone and makes it louder
This is THE AMP I RECOMMEND IF YOU ARE JUST STARTING OUT!
This 20 watt amp (with an 8” speaker) is perfect for practicing at your home. It sounds great at low volumes and it has a headphone jack!
The different sounds (voices) are phenomenal, ranging from Tweed, Blackface, British and Metal. In addition, the gain and volume knobs can be dialed in to explore each voice.
The treble and bass knobs let you color the sound, while the FX options are fantastic for such an affordable amp. These include reverb+chorus, chorus, flange, delay+reverb, wah, vibrato, and tremolo. A tap button is also included to customize the speed of your vibrato or tremolo.
To give you peace of mind, this amp includes Fender's 2-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY.

@@abdel-rahmanel-sagher2237 The Mustang I is more programmable, you have a lot more FX and I think you can layer them. The Champion 20 is more straight forward, and you can not layer the FX.

I've studied music for over 30 years, from choral to instrumental to symphony/orchestra to theory and the physics of soundwaves. This is the most straightforward, easy-to-understand, common sense explnantion I've ever heard of the relationship between gain (tone shaping) and amp volume. Thank you.

I appreciate your lectures on this amplifier - I got it last night at GC, and a nice Stratocastor. It was before you were born ( mid 60's) as when I had a Mustang and my Fender Delux which did not even include reverb. I was impressed with all that is included in the functional scope of the Champ 20, and enjoy your examples in demonstrating how to make use of it - thanks Now I will relearn as wanting to accompany my own keyboard work. I got flat wounds to put on as I have no callouses -

Dude thank you thank you THANK YOU sooo much, I hope you see this man, I have been playing for 6 months now and there are so many videos that explain this in the weirdest way, and some don’t even show a demonstration, just all talking. This was the most detailed and well explained version of this on youtube, and it was described in literally minutes. You are an angel for this dude, I’m ready to keep practicing now

I hope you stuck with it 👍🏻. Learning to play a instrument takes dedication and lots of time. Lots of people give up by 6 months so I hope you hung in there. When I first started I dunno how many times I got fed up, stuffed guitar in closet, and swore to never touch it again lol. But a day or 2 later I’d get it back out and try again. That was the best explanation explaining the difference between the two. I have been trying to understand that simple thing I play a sax and I have been having trouble balancing the backing track with my horn. I feel like my horn is taking up too much of the recording sound so it sounds out of place. This is a step in the right direction. Cheers

Hi,,I like passing on information that may help people, as you do also, and I purchased a Looper from Ebay(only cost $34 Canadian) made by Cuvave and it is so much fun. You come up with jams and riffs and then you record it with the Looper and it plays it back and you can jam or play lead over top of it..you can also do multiple loops to add colour..I love it and it is a great way to learn timing.

Great explanation, thanks! So glad you share the love for the Fender Champion 20. I've bought, traded, sold, and in some cases rebought every modeling amp by Blackstar, Boss, Fender, Orange, and Vox... Even some 1-5 watt tube amps. Basically everything with a 8" speaker that they sell at Guitar Center and this is by far the best. Yeah a Champion 40 is better for the bigger speaker but I prefer small amps and don't like to use multiple channels.

I've always found that the lower the gain, the amp's overhead will eventually power thru that level of crunch and even make the gain level seem cleaner. Then I had to tweak the gain up enough to get back the crunch I preferred at lower gain & volume settings. And with any of the amps there is a point where the natural breakup at volume starts to occur, the sweet spot of the amp, because there's going to be a point where the gain & the volume really has met & started to exceed the limitations of the amp & speaker. Practice amps are more likely to strain than the more powerful amps do. With higher gain settings, I might be able to get the volume to the 3 o'clock before it starts to really sound awful, 1 or 2 o'clock for that much gain is that amp's sweet spot.
