This is actually kind of depressing to watch as a software engineer in my late 30s that took 12+ years to get 200k total compensation. And on top of that, I had some personal life tragedies that caused severe financial problems. So watching this video makes me feel like I'm 12+ years behind my peers. Though anyone reading this who is not inspired, bear in mind Clement is an extreme outlier. Most software engineers in the USA, even at large tech companies in higher salary locations, do not earn 348k within 2 years after their CS BS.

Why were you considered an exempt employee? Most companies have deferred to the standard that only management is considered exempt. I guess it depends on what state you live in, but companies headquartered in California generally follow the management-exempt, workers-non-exempt rule because then they don't need different rules for each state.

I'm trying to figure out if the money facebook makes is ethical or not. Basically just farming people's personal information in exchange for a messenger and photo sharing (both features available on other private platforms). It starts to make you wonder... should facebook exist in the first place? Or should we celebrate high paying jobs from simple messaging and photo sharing features... I'm torn in between there somewhere.
@liam19022 жыл бұрын
Coming from a Software Engineer, every application you use is tracking your data, behavior, etc and storing it so that it can be further analyzed for patterns especially when it involves showing advertisements or influencing the user to do something (sometimes for legal purposes it's desensitized but other times your account is usually associated with a unique ID). Whether it's a tech giant or a random company, they are all doing it because data itself is usually always more important than a customer using a new feature. Also, Meta owns Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Oculus, and so much more. Google owns Google, KZbin, Android, Nest, and so much more. Apple owns the entire Apple ecosystem so iPhones, Macbooks, etc. Microsoft owns LinkedIn, Skype, GitHub, Office, and so much more. If you want to question the morality/ethicality of these companies, then you pretty much need to abandon the internet since every click is being tracked by someone.

I wondered this too, it's the best job to have by a distance. Great pay, work environment and hours. Compare this to investment bankers who have to work 80-100 hours a week, complete corporate slaves. I think the reason may be that FAANG companies always fire employees on a regular basis.
