It's time for Lex, our 2 year old toddler, to go for autism testing! He has been showing some early signs of autism in toddlers and with already having an autistic child, it was important for us to do this evaluation before autism testing.

This is so informative. I did watch the video before appt explaining wat you suspect. Our son was adopted at birth. He is now 26 so things were much different then. He was also diagnosed at age 2 with Juvenile diabetes (insulin dependent). So you can imagine what we experienced with a Autistic 2 year old with DM, and asthma.. I pray for strength for you and your family. Thank you for sharing your experience. .❤

If it makes you feel better my daughter didnt start walking til she was two and didnt start talking til she was three. I thought she had autism and I was devastated but as I turns out she didn't. She didnt walk because when she tried to once she fell and cut her chin and that apparently traumatized her and her reason for not speaking was selective mutism. Basically I was told that because nobody understands her when she tries to talk or say a few words she would get annoyed and so communicated with her body language instead because people understood her better, we had to sit there and encourage her to use words for months and we would listen to her mumbles carefulky and see if we can hear a word when we did this boosted her confidence snd like almost overnight she was talking in full sentences. She went from not saying anything to saying "good morning mama" early intervention believed she always knew rhe words but as mentioned earlier prefered not to talk because nobody understood her and it frustrated her. Hope this story helps

My Momskool Thanks for sharing your experience! This makes me feel so much better. My son walked at 12 months but he’s now 25 months and only says about 10 words but regularly he says maybe 5. He mostly communicates with sign language or pointing. He has an evaluation in a few weeks. I’m been anxiously awaiting his appointment. Just wanting to get answers if he is just delayed speech, on the autism spectrum, or maybe just lazy with using his words and communicates other ways instead kind of like your daughter.

@@carrielynnxox I am in the same situation, I started my son in daycare last week to see if theres a difference, he used to have a speech therapist coming once a week since he was 15 months we didnt see any improvements so we mentioned to them if he could be autistic so now they're having someone else come and help him. He does not like to eat, I still have to put his food in the blender and feed it to him. I was very concerned at first by I have been talking to other parents who have children. Take for example my supervisor her son is almost 4 hes just now starting to make up sentences he mainly eats pizza and apple sauce. If I worry too much I get depressed. Hes my first born so I should relax

I was the same way with my son when it came to admitting he was behind on things, I felt like a bad mom bc I didn’t teach him everything and honestly I thought he would catch up but of coarse he didn’t. You are such an awesome momma! So strong and patient. My 18 month old is also showing a couple of red flags for autism and it’s tearing me up inside. He’s my first baby and I’m having a really hard time coping. I know I need to be strong for him but this is so hard on me for some reason. You make it look so easy. He hasn’t had an evaluation yet but I’m asking for a referral at his 18month checkup.

My nephew had no actual words until he was 3, they evaluated him several times, but his physical and cognitive skills were above age it was just speech and some OCD behavior. It took about a year of speech therapy but he was at age level speech. Still OCD behaviors at age 6 and a little bit of speech problems.

Your family is quite normal. Some kids develop later than others. Please don't get stressed out and worry about it. Everything will turn out OK. We all have our individual problems. Just relax and pray and trust God. And... if you're an atheist, ask yourself how something can ever come from nothing without a non-contingent being to start the ball rolling. 😉

Our AUsome Life fancy seeing you here {: I had lots of food issues too. I remember as young as maybe 3-5 sitting at the dinner table for hourssss painstakingly eating tiny bites of cold pasta that was awful for my sensory issues so I could leave. Sounds were big too. Do any of your kids have issues with “sharp” sounds? As a kid I used to scream and cover my ears when silverware would scrape against bowls or pans , or the dentist with the scraper-thing.. any sound like that is especially bad. I still cover my ears for some and I’m freakin 21. Wild nobody ever suspected autism along with my ten thousand other symptoms lol.

My daughter is 9 months old and they are giving her speech theraphy which I think is crazy and didn’t know it’s a thing . I live in Sanford Florida . I just find it crazy that my 9 month old needs speech theraphy and occupational . She use to say momma and dada then she suddenly stopped. Honestly I’m confused. Though she shows many signs Penelope showed so honesty I’m so lost and would love advice .

My son nick is 2.5 years and like a month a half ago i took him to a child psych to see what she said. Literally saw him five minutes and said she dont think he is because he is affectionate like really? So i finally found one to evaluate him in two weeks. I really hope we can get a diagnosis. He sees a speech therapist once a week and has been for about 8 months now. He is non verbal and doesnt really say words unless he hears them himself. But he wont voluntarily say words. He head bangs. Will slap himself when he has a melt down. He covers his ears alot. Just alot of red flags. Do you know what happens during an ados assessment for a toddler?

just watching your videos tonight made me think what I went thru with my son Jake in 2010 took his dr 2 years to come up with Autism as he didn't want to label him that just yet without other testing to list it to something else and all that coming back normal and said the only think is Autism and he was 4 years old he only had 5 words and that was it didn't walk till he was 16 months old, I felt like I was a bad mother at 23 years old myself cause he was delayed in everything but he was smart in other things he knew how to work a computer at a young age and now his good at naming all planets as thats what his into and for them if the like something thats all they talk about 24/7 well my son does lol. I've been a single mother for 11 and half years and felt with all this i did have my nans help she was there for me till she passed away she was my son world that day telling him she wasn't going to be alive soon broke my heart more he was upset more but got to say goodbye even thro she told him she wasn't going anywhere day before she passed away.

I think it would still be worth it; I grew up knowing I was different and struggling, but thinking it was because I was stupid and annoying rather than because I’m Autistic. I wish I was diagnosed before 14. Frequently, as the kid gets older and demands exceed capacity we tend to become more “obviously” autistic, and become much more prone to autistic burnout.
