Steve- (Greatest Salesman ever)... Purchased mine about 6 months ago from you, zero issues. My local Cummins dealer is providing routine maintenance/service, and with the exception of a little fuel mileage loss after the first software update, I am completely satisfied. Pulling flats in the mountains of Kentucky and West Virginia, our’s gets a real work out, but with the 2050 torque we handle the grades with stride, while delivering a solid 6 MPG. Yeah, we sacrifice a little mileage running a big hood 389, but looks and appearance are quite important to us, as our family has always had long hoods since the 90’s. Such praise coming from a Caterpillar lifer, should speak volumes. Keep up the good work!

2050 torque has it's advantages but it will grind your rears all to pieces if you get stuck somewhere and start spinning your wheels to try to regain traction and free yourself... So a lot of, especially heavy haul, operations turn their 2050s back to about 1900 for driveline component safety.

😍I bought an extremely well maintained 2013 Freightliner fleet truck that has a 450 hp Cummins ISX under the hood and I initially had about a $45,000.00 maintenance nightmare with that engine until I took it to The Cummins Gold Store in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and had it worked on properly and had The DPF Filter and DOC Cannister replaced on it at about 650,000 miles, since then this baby has run like an absolute beast and I have had absolutely zero engine related problems all of the way up to my present 850,500+ miles and still hammering at 1,600 rpms all day long!😍

Big problem with the fleet trucks is you never know how many different drivers drove it. Is it a econ motor by chance? Seems like the economy motors have had more issues than the performance series ones.

I have a 2018 567 that I haul logs up in Canada with. I run a 7 axle configuration. I gross out at around 140000 lbs. I have the x15 565 with 2050 torque. I love this motor. It has around 4500 hours on it now without a single trip to the dealership for warranty work. I am very happy with the fuel mileage I get from it as well. I haul heavy all the time and it is way better than my old truck that had a C15 cat. I also have a 2000 KW with an N14 in it. The trucks work side by side every day. 👍🏻

@@jking4020 not a Cummins rep. So my truck now has almost 9000 hours on the motor. In the last year it’s finally had to have some warranty work done. I’ve had to change an egr cooler and they just did a recall on the exhaust manifold. So far it’s all been warranty. Keep in mind my motor is the x15 performance series. I know people that have the economy x15 and they have had nothing but problems. I do know of people that have had problems with the camshaft but both guys ran the sinblend 10w30 oil. sounds like cummins should invest in their parts network and advertise/guarantee a specific parts availability.. if you couldnt get something for 5days in 2019/2020 i have to imagine thats 5 weeks in 2021/2022.. but everyone always says how its the downtime that costs you not the repair.. so why not advertise that everypart for the engine is within 24 hours of anywhere in the continental US is that really such a hard ask.. surely a 24hour delivery radius is pretty large team up with amazon or one of the delivery companies like UPS or fedex and have them stock and deliver the parts for them

Only issues i experienced was with the $10,000 TCM Wiring Harness to the Allison 6 spd AT. The truck still being under Warranty. That issue was taken care of at a very minimal cost to me. Not a sneeze or a cough of any kind since. Its in a 2018 International HX620 cab with a Galbreath Right Hook Roll Off work unit installed to the 290 inch chassis.

In the past one year Oct '19 and Oct '20 I've run two X15 engines and while I like them a lot and have had no issues with them, I don't understand the banging / slapping / clanging noises these engines make especially when you get into the throttle, the louder they get. While the engines sound like they are about to spill their guts all over the highway, after a while I've learned to ignore the noise and run. I've never heard a H-D diesel make that sound before and I wish Cummins would at least educate us as to what the noise is and what effect it has on the engine if any. The noise emanates from the drivers side of engine and sounds exactly like steel smacking steel. At 125k miles, it starts hard and slow and shutdown occurs in less than 2-seconds flat which is kind of frightening but again, just ignore it and go about business. It's a great running engine, just has a few quirks that take some getting used to. All the X15 engines do it, just don't understand it.

On all machinery failure rates are usually highest when they are new or super old, but rarely in the middle. Infant and senior mortality so to speak. If these make it 300k, I'd say they are well past early failure. Early failure is usually very quick. Senior failure with these you'll need to wait 10-15 years I am guessing. That's when plastics and shit will start breaking down from exposure to their environment. Electronics may get wonky by that time.

IT'S NOT THE TRUCK... IT'S THE SHOPS AND MECHANICS NOT DOING A THOROUGH PROPER JOB... I'VE BEEN BLAMING THE TRUCK BLAMING THE TRUCK AND THEN IT STUCK ME.. WAIT A MINUTE.. THEY'VE SEEN THESE PROBLEMS OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND FOLLOW THE SAME DIAGNOSTICS/ CURE FOR IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN BEFORE FINALLY MOVING ONTO THE NEXT WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE SOLUTION... AND THAT'S A SHAME BECAUSE WE LOSE REVENUE SITTING IN A MOTEL FOR A WEEK TO ONLY GET THE TRUCK BACK AND FEW DAYS LATER BAM !!! SAME FAULT CODE !!! TILL FINALLY AFTER 4 OR 5 TIMES THEY GO OH YEAH WE FIGURED IT OUT IT WAS THIS OR THAT.... WELL.... UM .. Had our X15 2020 565 hp for 3 years. Sleeved the cylinders at 423k in Vegas due to low or loss of compression. We run intermountain & northwest year around, and gelling is frequent when transitioning from south to northern fuel supplied depots. We always carry 2 filters for everything. Currently have 542k on a 3 year old truck. Replaced the transmission harness in Tucson, clutch replacement in Cheyenne, windshield fluid tank in Missoula for a stuck float, and 2 DEF pump replacements (Mobile/ West Memphis). We've had more shop time on the Pete than a Volvo, Freightliner, and International combined for a 3 year old truck.

ISX was just like the gas engines starting out. Everyone was having issues early. Know of a lot of cars and trucks back then. Some could not get 30,000 miles. Smog stuff was stopped up. Look at those today, for the most part. NO issues on gas engines now. Everyone rushed the Diesel design in way early. Or waited late in the game to start testing. Should have been testing in the 80's. For the release years later.

60000 on mine I've got a vibration around 1200 RPMs under a hard pull dealer can't seem to find doesn't do it all the time to me feels like the engine any ideas? Don't get me wrong I absolutely love this engine other than that it's been trouble-free and Pulls like a mule!!!! If I was to describe the vibration is very similar hitting rumble strips at about 45 miles per hour

Hey Kurt, how much free play is in the clutch pedal? I have seen this cured a couple times before by having a little more than usual free play but could also be in the driveline. Just throwing darts here, hope all is well!

k pelkey and steve. I have the same issue. Vibrates so bad I have to get out of the throttle. I took it in to dealer and they drove it with a sensor but did not find it. Told me it was the engine needing broken in (about 20k miles). Seems like drive shaft or engine maybe. I hope to get it to another dealer to have it checked out. Bought it from Tulsa (sorry not from Steve directly)

@@robertl3632 I know what you mean I have to get off the throttle also when it does it real bad. Mine doesn't do it all the time does yours? I haven't got mine back in to have the clutch checked but when it was new I had it adjusted because I was getting a vibration which the adjustment did take care of it that was a completely different vibration than what I'm feeling now. Seems like a fuel-air engine issue to me which should throw a code but who knows keep me updated on what you find out and I'll do the same

@@kpelkey6829. I'll keep you posted. I noticed the vibration ever so slightly when I drove it bobtail after picking it up. However, when loaded heavy and up a grade it becomes so bad, clearly something is wrong. It helps to be in a lower gear (higher rpms) but that prevents me from being down where I want torque. I'll check out the clutch fee travel but I am concerned Ill adjust the clutch brake out. I also noticed that the driveline had been moved after painting. I was told that was normal as they do a run at the factor to adjust once assembly is done. It does not do all the time, or at least it's not as bad. So at least I believe it narrowed to the the fuel/air issue, clutch adjustment, or driveshaft. Sigh.

Thats hard to hear about a dealership. Any Cummins facility can handle it. You dont have to go to the dealer where it was purchased.

@@SteveCarbone, Peterbilt at Amarillo Tx scam me, they said that it was a loose hose clamp on radiator hose, I took it back to Peterbilt at okc and they’d found the problem, they said it was the egr cooler witch that’s what I ask them to check the very first time I went there, I’ll find out if that’s what the problem was, thanks for the feedback

Hey bud this might be a stupid question but what is difference between 1650 torque or 1850 torque engine. I like 500 hp and run most of the time plain roads.

Does this x15 have a significant amount of issues less than the current paccar mx13 motor?
@diesel379x
@diesel379x 5 жыл бұрын
From my experience my x15 has 288k miles on it and I have not had any issues with the emission side of it. Now I did have camshaft issues at 213k. Had to be replaced. Ran my mx13 till 456k. Had check engine light on every over week. Blow head gasket at 359k two injectors went out. 9 nox sensor over 3years I've had it. I'm having better luck with Cummins than I did with the paccar engine.

Kendrick I appreciate that insight. But was that mx13 the updates model that got rid of all those sensors? I have an uncle that owns an 12 model year paccar and it’s been nothing but problems also but it’s first generation. I don’t know anyone with the 16 year model or newer

I know this post is old but the trucks you speak of for sale are generally fleet trucks that are being replaced with newer trucks. Fleets like to keep them in warranty.
