Hello, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and really enjoy how you explain everything and how clean and organized your set ups are. I was curious if you could let me know what those brackets are called that you use to hold up the pipes? Also, what is the part number or name of the check valve and feed fitting that brings water into the system? Thank you very much for your response and help

So I have a question about combi boiler sizes. Id like to do a combi on a 2200 sf radiant heated slab in northern Indiana. How do you figure out what size boiler is needed to take care of the slab heat and domestic? Does a larger boiler use more gas than a smaller one in the 6 months or so that the slab heat isnt on? Is it better to get two separate boilers? Thank you

Hello, I was surprised to see the manifold was open the whole way through. Maybe you can help me understand, why are the supply and return loops piped together outside the boiler? What does that do for the system? I answered my own question..... THAT'S A MIXING VALVE. Great video
@JimSperanza Жыл бұрын
The manifold is used to hydraulically seperates the flow through the boiler and the flow through the heating zones.

Excellent video. Thank you. Is mixing valve needed for TILED (PEX inside the mud job) in floor radiant heat? Or is it only applicable for under hardwood floors?
@JimSperanza6 ай бұрын
You don't want the floor surface temp to go above 85 degrees. You can run an max of about 125 degree water supply to the floor to achieve this. If this is the only zone on the boiler you can just adjust the boiler supply temp and you won't need a mixing valve.

Good evening, I have a question I was hoping you can help me answer. I have the same combi boiler installed and I tired to do my yearly flush. On the domestic side it went no problem, I recirculated the descaled for 45 minutes, but when I tried to do the main heater exchanger flush I was unable to do so because the water would not circulate. Almost as if the three way valve inside was just stuck closed. How do I open that valve so I can circulate the descaled through the heat exchanger? Any input would be really appreciated. I’m stuck I have no idea how to get past this step. PLEASE HELP.

What is a combi boiler? Haven't heard of that. Why have circulation pumps on each zone rather than valves?
@JimSperanza Жыл бұрын
A combi is a boiler that provides heating and domestic hot water from the same unit. I typically use pumps for each zone because they are close to the cost of a zone valve and if a pump goes down you don't lose every heating zone.

Your mixing valve doesn’t make sense. It’s supposed to have 180 degrees going into it, then cold make up water going into the other side and then 125 out. How you have it plumbed it will never get down to 125. It will stayed around 160 to 180. This isn’t good because you’ll crack concrete or warp hardwood floors.
@JimSperanzaАй бұрын
@BeeBombard you cannot add cold makeup water to a closed hydronic system. You are describing a mixing valve on a domestic hot water setup. The piping configuration I have used allows the mixing valve to only supply 125 degree water to the circulator. It will open the "cold" return water from the slab as needed to maintain this temperature.
@barrymorse881010 күн бұрын
@@JimSperanza , I think maybe BeeBombard heard you mention that the return water could be 160 degrees. If you mix 160 with 180, you wouldn't get 125. So I was also confused at first. But of course the return water from the radiant loop would not be 160 degrees. You mentioned the water mixing valve is set to feed the radiant loop at maximum 125. By the time the radiant loop water returns to the boiler, it is cooler than 125. 180 degree boiler water would then be mixed sparingly with the radiant loop feed to bring it back to 125 degrees. Do I have that right?
@JimSperanza10 күн бұрын
@barrymorse8810 you absolutely have it correct. I'm still waiting for BeeBombards reply 😉
