I was one of those along for the ride when Malcolm oversaw two relegations and somehow remained incredibly popular with the fans. He mentioned Terry Venables who took over and eventually created the short lived ‘Team of the 80s’. I saw them training from the science block classrooms at Langley Park school. The greatest day was when we beats Leeds 1-0 at Elland Road in Feb 1976, followed by a windowless & bitterly cold coach journey home as the Leeds fans had taken their revenge…..

Was anyone attacked or beaten up?

@@lennylaa1686 From memory - and it was nearly 47 years ago(!) it was just kicking & fisticuffs: no weapons.

Tony Currie was supposed to be a great England prospect at the time, but Trevor Brooking was the one showing class.

Malcolm was a talented coach and innovative thinker but the 'Big Mal' persona took him over.

He was a guest on the programme once when the Australians were touring England, but I recall that being 1977.
