She was expecting a script to be delivered that day and was waiting for it. Her mind was on her next movie role, not on safety....... that was her fatal mistake
@ccgrey87315 жыл бұрын
Exactly right. She was a working actress with some public visibility but I think it's ridiculous that some posting here are suggesting her death was her own fault for not being focused on possible safety risks every minute. The truth is that even if Rebecca hadn't gone to the door at that time, Bardo would have still have been lurking around waiting for his chance. Rebecca wasn't yet at the point of stardom to have an armed bodyguard. Bardo would have likely still shot her when she left for her audition. Or when she returned.
@domino30235 жыл бұрын
Right. This is HIS fault, not hers. Sure she slipped up by making herself easily found, but he's the one that sought her out. Had he not found her, she might still be alive. The karma is that someone else would have been killed, by someone else.

Rebecca Schaeffer was so young that she wasn’t trained to keep her living address off of her drivers license, she was so young, she naive, she was so young she was starting her life. When she moved in with her co-star Pam Dawer,, Pam should’ve told her to use a PO Box as an address for her identification, then maybe Robert Bardo would’ve never found her through a private investigator. Even though it was almost 30 years ago, no private eye should ever be permitted to give out anyone’s address or phone without the other person know who’s looking for them.

I used to be obsessed with multiple celebrities and influencers (I recovered), it's always the same story: 1. The artist is (particular traits), 2. the individual starts watching and rewatching, causing what is called a parasocial relationship which is usually more satisfying to the individual than the life around them, 3 the individual goes and contacts them. When the individual goes and contacts them, the best case is no response at all, but what happens too often is that an artist writes back and the fan gets emboldened, and if they get rejected, it always ends poorly. It's always a different version of the same story and I wish society took this more seriously, especially now in the age of social media influencers.

@@kaesandi I don't see that I was "throwing insults," Your comment was foolish, blaming the victim for being murdered. I think you are the one that is thin-skinned. Could most of us even imagine being in that life situation? I doubt that Rebecca was focused on the idea that a fan was potentially going to do what he did or she would have been more cautious. From the sound of her, she didn't think of herself as a star. On the day it happened, she was busy and preoccupied with her audition. She thought Bardo was someone arriving with a script. The intercom wasn't working to her apartment. It was daytime. Likely she didn't think twice about answering the door. I am not sugar coating anything. One can clearly see how this happened and why Rebecca would not have been focused on the potential for danger. Also, it seems that no one ever told her about Bardo, his visits to the studio when My Sister Sam was still in production. Rebecca may have realized she needed to protect herself more if she had known about him.
