To Pick Up - to learn naturally without study To be a stretch - far from reality To mark off/ cross it off/ marked as completed... To give away /reveal a secret.... (I understand it is gonna be stretch but try to not give away my secret to them...) To clash with - to contradict/ to oppose/ to go against.... To start out with / intend to do something To be lame (sl.) - not cool/ not acceptable To go with... - to choose.. To use up - used completely... To jump Out at - noticeable/ easy to see Hail Mary (n.) - final desperate Chance/ You get a Hail Mary guess/ attempt a Toss-Up (n.) - unpredictable choose/ can't be predicted between two options Early On = Early To Go On - something dramatic occurred... by the seat of your pants - without a specific detailed plan / play by the ear(?) Hit or Miss - unpredictable result On the Back Burner - low priority/ postpone/ put off Clear Cut - confident/ free from doubt To Throw Off - confused by something To Go Over Your Head - too difficult to understand

Thank you so much Vanessa!! I spent like 4 years in different English schools in Mexico. I was so confident about my English skills. But when I came to the USA I felt so lost!! Your lessons are so practical and they really worked, because these is what you need to communicate in real life. I’m learning more now watching your videos and practice by myself than in those 4 years. Great teacher!! Congrats!! Here is your loyal student!!

The variation or the musicality in your voice expressing doubt, affirmation, astonishment or joy, effort, etc...is fabulous. I try to shadow them all and it helps a great deal. Thanks.

Hello dear Vanessa. My name is Max, today i saw a video lesson with Bob the Canadian and he recommended your channel to improve my vocab, fortunately i agree with him, i think your channel this exactly what i need. And i have a couple of questions; 1- To pick up (what mean pick up someone) 2-To be a stretch (in Ukraine we have the same one phrase verb but we talking-He/She Flying in the clouds)
@SpeakEnglishWithVanessa4 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad that you are enjoying my lessons, Max! To answer your question: 1) To pick up someone has two meanings: to put them in your car ("I need to pick up my children from school.") or to casually ask someone on a date ("I picked up a girl at the bar last night.") 2) "To be a stretch" is only the meaning in this video. I hope that helps!
