A new dark academia vampire book just released! It's called immortal dark and technically it's YA but there are some content warnings in the beginning. it is very fun thus far!
@Kenough_in_Wonderland2 ай бұрын
If you liked Starling House you should definitely check out A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid! 🌊📚 (Trigger Warning though for SA, but not graphic or in the present, it's more about grappling with the aftermath and it's not the main "plot" it's just more kind of always there but in the background, I think it's a really good realistic portrayal of dealing with it and I personally wouldn't shy away from the book because of it)

I read Anne Rice’s vampires in the mid 90s, no others even compare for me. Book 2 of the Vampire Chronicles is my all time favorite! Lestat easily became one of my most memorable literary characters. She goes far and deep into his world and it is addicting, so much so that I went to New Orleans and visited the sites from the series. Read her Mayfair witches too!

Hi, Katie! I’d like to recommend Nettle & Bone by T Kingfisher, also A Sorceress comes to Call, by the same author. Great books with autumn vibes 🍂 Plus, The Witchwood Knot by Olivia Atwater is also very much under that vibe! If I may be super bold and still recommend one book more, Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft is also under that category and one of my favourite books.

Night Circus is still somewhere on my TBR. The Invocations (Kathryn Sutherland's name rang a bell) and the Cassidy Blake series are going on my TBR now. The Small Assassin sounds delightful, and bonus points if (once I've read it) it turns out to be another Bradbury classic. Legend of Sleepy Hollow stands the test of 2 centuries now despite some of Irving's weirder prose quirks, and the late 40s animated version (with Bing Crosby voicing Ichabod) is still an October tradition for me.

A great middle grade series is the Aveline Jones series by Phil Hickes. The first one is my favorite because it's very much like a ghost story, but all of them are pretty good reads -and the art is gorgeous! Not scary, but I will also always recommend Cemetary Boys by Aiden Thomas. If someone wants vampires for the fall, I HIGHLY recommend the Blood Books by Tanya Huff. They're older, but they're basically a detective/crime series that involves the supernatural. "Spells for Forgetting" by Adrienne Young also has some beautiful autumnal descriptions, as does "The Unfortunate Side Effects of Magic and Heartbreak" by Breanne Randall (although the latter DEFINITELY comes with content warnings).

If you haven't read it, I recommend A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny. I also love both the middle grade series you mentioned, but my favorite middle grade spooky books are the three Aveline Jones books by Phil Hickes. I hope he eventually writes more in this series.The first book is The Haunting of AvelineJones and it takes place over the last week of October. Several of the books you mentioned, I own but didn't realize had an autumnal vibe. Now I'll add them to my spooky season TBR pile. Thanks!

A few of my own recs! :: • Uprooted by Naomi Novik - evil(?) woods, untamed magic, stubborn heroine • The Scholomance trilogy by Naomi Novik - a reluctantly good dark witch, female friendship, magic school that may try to murder you • House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland (I'm seconding your recommendation) - lush, disturbing, for the girls who feel there's maybe a little monster inside of us all
