The "price or re-price at the counter" a big one with me. I sometimes give the shop a second chance, but no more than that. I just won't go there anymore.

I would add only this: If your customer shows up wearing a plaid suit jacket like James wears in this video, don’t you dare tell him he reminds you of your wacky cousin who could never master using Elmer’s Glue in grade school.

That repricing at the counter is too real. I want to say last month I was at a vintage toy and comic shop. It was in a shopping mall and my girlfriend was shopping at the clothing store across the street. I noticed they had bins and bins of loose comics and I asked the price. They said a dollar a book. I confirmed it again. So, I must’ve dug through them for at least 30 minutes. The boxes were gross, dusty and disorganized and you guessed it I had to kneel down to search through other boxes. When I finished with my stack (like 100 books) they told me that they weren’t a dollar and then said we can get you a new price as they started to actively look through key finder, eBay and every other website imaginable. The other shop owner then said there was no dollar books. I was stunned. So, I basically did all the work for them. And they just repriced all the books after I left. They didn’t even know which books to price. That was literally the worst experience ever.

I really liked this video. I purchase my comics from the Kitchener Comic Book Warehouse. They are very friendly and honest and upfront. You always acquire the best deal when you pay by cash from them. Plus it is 2 floors of comics. I get a handshake when I leave. I have never been offered a back massage. I am okay with not having this option. 😀Take care.

Another great video, James. I only sell comics online (and buy a collection here or there) so some of these tips don’t apply to me; but these are great tips for sellers from the buyer’s point of view as well. One important thing that I’ve learned from being in punk rock bands most of my life is to say, “it’s nice to *see* you” instead of, “it’s nice to *meet* you.” I can’t tell you the amount of times that I’ve “met” someone several times before (probably in a drunken haze) and have no recollection of ever meeting them. Saying, “it’s nice to *see* you” will cover your bases either way.

I used to shop at a LCS a long time ago that did those fake discounts. All back issues were 35% off. You would pull out a book with a price tag of $15.35 which when you take off the 35% discount comes to exactly $10. Hmmmm.

James, have you ever watched “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” before? I ask because your last few tips are very reminiscent of the type of humor from that show. Just curious.

For me it's all about trust. I'm willing to pay and upfront with what I can afford, but at the same time I don't want to be ripped off. If I know I'm going to get a fair price, I will be a repeat buyer. Be fair with me and I'll be fair right back

Your comment about the charge for grading comics is a bit outdated. The cost to grade a silver age book is $62 ( this includes return shipping). That's not counting what it cost to mail the book to CGC. I provide the service to my customers at no additional charge. I just charged them the fees that I have to pay
