One thing they emphasized in OMC school was to never swap the crankcase from a different block. They told us the two were matched and swapping them MIGHT work, but would be a heck of a risk. We were taught to think of them as a permanent pair. You could clean and degrease the old one and patch it with Marine Tex. I have seen that done successfully more than once. Thanks for another interesting video.

Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Not sure if you've been following along, it's hard to keep up with everyone sometimes. Anyway I guess I just got lucky with the ones I've swapped in the past, but this one was already stiff as hell with the original case. Could barely turn it by hand. This motor was in some sort of accident. My guess is the boat and motor were on a trailer when the accident occurred, both show damage on the same side. It had an electric start, that got damaged and they replaced it with a regular bracket, different paint color. I believe they swapped the pull start too, doesn't match anything, looks to new compared the the rest of the powerhead. The prop blades are all dented up on the tips, looks more like they hit the pavement a few times. Anyway, my guess is the whole powerhead is warped from the impact. Is that a possibility? I'm gonna try a different crankshaft to see if it makes any difference. Thanks again !

Howww do! Great video. Can't wait for the verdict. Speaking of crankshafts, where do you draw the line on an acceptable used crankshaft? Most I find have minor pitting on bearing surfaces/journals. Ever use one with minor pits here and there on the journals?

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Wow haven't thought about that in years, but of course pick the best of what you have as long as your eardrums don't blow out! Hahaha. Check ebay they might have what you're looking for. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

Hey. Thanks for tuning in! No I didn't physically look at the needles but I did check the caps and they do match up properly. Thanks again !

If I'm not mistaking, OMC recommends an anaerobic sealant for those crankcase parts. Not sure your Permatex fillls the bill. For that restricted access bolt, I use a socket shortened about half it's original lenght and it allows the use of an articulated gear on that last élucidé bolt.

I didn't see you grease the crank journals and bearing before resetting, maybe I missed that. Cross hatching is good to have but not likely to cause that tightness. I still think it's been run hot and the cylinders are not round anymore or oversized rings installed.

I usually put a wrench on the tang of the torque wrench at a low setting to get a feel for the click first. It helps and lets you know if you are in the ball park if you don’t know when it was last calibrated. Good video 👍

You know if it was the crank it wouldn’t pull easily when the plugs were out. I know you looked at some of the exhaust for clogs , I think if you haven’t already you should check the entire exhaust. Check exhaust ports in the block really good. Just seems like it has to be that. Did those motors have some kind of pressure relief valve. I thought I seen one on one of the heads you were comparing to the one on it. Maybe previous owner replaced the head with wrong one. I don’t know, just seems like it has to be exhaust. I’ve went back and watched all the episodes last night on the motor, seemed like I could get more information that way instead of watching just your short videos and waiting a few days to see another one. I wish you would consider making 30 minute videos instead of the 15 minute, we get more out of it. But anyways I enjoy watching you and your antics Take care bud 👍

not sure about outboards but if the journals are not true round that the crank sits in after torquing it will be a bear to rotate. So, trying another crank may end up with the same condition. The case probably needs to be line honed but if the journals don't have bearings just metal to metal good luck finding an oversize crank for it.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD16 ай бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yes they have bearings. Thanks again !
