If a comic strip lasts half a century and is only missing a single panel out of its entire archive, I'd say thats impressive.

Not only that, it's a title panel, so at most we lost a mostly pointless panel
@howveyouben Жыл бұрын
The Schulz estate has been extremely good at preserving and archiving everything that was originally made by Schulz. There was also another Sunday strip whose top row of panels was missing for years, and when they published the complete set from that year, they had a placeholder. But they did find the original panels a couple years later.

Lost Media followers don't count toys or toylines as media. Comic books are considered literature, literature considered a media. I don't entirely agree or disagree with lost/cancelled toylines in general due to the media attached. Pack in stories, concept designs, unused character creations stuff like that can be considered media. I wouldn't count the actual unproduced toys alone, unless they're somehow a media format on their own.

@ajclements46273 жыл бұрын
Well, if me calling that number (a lot) to have them kill that version of Robin is considered to be a bot, then yes. 😁 For 36 hours, beginning on September 15, 1988, readers could call the two numbers to cast a ballot on whether he should live or not. Over 10,000 votes were cast, with a narrow majority in favor of killing the character. (Approximately 10,614 votes were cast during this period. When tallied, the final results were extremely narrow, with 5,343 votes in favor of Jason's death over 5,271 for his survival-a margin of just 72 votes.) In Batman #428, the Joker kills Todd by blowing up the warehouse in which he is held hostage.

Okay so I want to add something I don’t think anyone would be in possession of. There’s this Austrian supermarket chain called Billa and sometime in the 2000s they had a promotional comic that was also a coloring book. The story followed a boy and a girl in kind of medieval times and they went to the nearby town and found all of the townspeople in some weird sleep state. From what I remember you could somehow be involved in how the story progressed, as in you could probably call or email them ideas, but soon after that comic the store closed in my town and I can’t find any evidence of that comic existing.

@(MediaGuy) I'm not sure exactly but I believe it was some kind of situation where it was on a college campus and you downloaded the files and executed them to view the comic, is judging by the second oldest known webcomic that came out a year after witches and stitches this webcomic being The F.O.X, these were very primitive digital art webcomics, like literally made from Pixel art not as a stylistic choice but because there was no other way of creating comics digitally at that point that looked exactly like a drawn strip, so another interesting note on this front is the first published digitally made comic, originally physically published by 1first comics shatter was made primarily with an apple 2 and released from 84 to 88
@helious50563 жыл бұрын
@(MediaGuy) The F.O.X can still be found on the internet, I believe there's a few archives of it on archive.org but the only one I was able to find on there that worked was the one with the thumbnail that has Star Trek the next generation characters in it alongside some dude poorly edited into the picture, I believe it's mostly still intact but there could be some missing strips here and there Shatter is completely not lost, and there are two physical copies of it that have been released over the years the first one is a full color copy which is a bit more pricey and the second is a black and white version which is also still pretty pricey depending on when you're looking, in a similar shatter you could also check out Batman digital Justice which I believe is the first mainstream comic to really use digital art in particularly 3D digital art and it's pretty cool And witches and stitches is completely lost with very little possibility of it being found but who knows, I believe there is a blog post in a Wikipedia page on witches and stitches and it's Creator too if you want to learn more

In Japan there's a company called Shogakukan which publishes a lot of manga in magazines including various series based on video games. While some of them have been published in their own books such as Super Mario-kun and the Kirby manga, there are other series that never got their own books and are mostly lost. There are two that I have a lot of interest in that both ran from 1992-1994. Sonic the Hedgehog This is most likely the earliest adaptation of Sonic as it started being published in April 1992, a few months before the Archie comics started. It's about a 10 year old hedgehog boy in school named Nicky who turns into Sonic the Hedgehog whenever there's danger. It's pretty unusual seeing Sonic as just an alter ego which is a big part of what makes this manga stand out. It's also worth noting that Amy Rose and Charmy Bee originated from this manga before they were characters in the games. While a lot of issues have been found and a few have been fan translated, there are still many issues that are currently lost. Otenba Peach-hime (Tomboy Princess Peach) This was a gag manga about the Mario Bros. characters as kids, and it mainly focused on Princess Peach who was portrayed a tomboy (before Princess Daisy was given this personality in the games.) A few issues have been found (though not translated yet), but a great majority of the series is currently lost which is a shame since it's one of the most unique things I've seen done with Princess Peach in official media. The artist has an official website and has posted a couple of pages from it. She's done artwork for a lot of manga that is unknown to English speaking audience.

Another less-known Marvel one: in the 70s Marvel punlished the first "Contest of Champions", Marvel's, as well as mainstream's, first limited series ever. The three issue miniseries featured EVERY Marvel character having appeared at the time, the cover of the first issue alone featured a plethora of heroes. The first issue (by Mike Zeck? I don't quite remember the artist) was to show a new addition to Marvel's ever-growing pantheon: Sinbad! Who came up with this idea, and more interesting, *_why?_* , is unknown. But Sinbad in the Marvel universe never happened (he appeared many years later, but that's another story), probably because such a well-known, classical free-domain character every other company could use, was deemed a bad idea. Marvel, and later Disney, showed the same ambiguity regarding characters like Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster for example, making no mention of either one for quite some years. Anyway - the cover of Contest of Champions # 1, showing Sinbad among the many various superheroes, has already been finished, before they decided to not include him after all. The artist pencilled another cover - and the original cover art, showing Sinbad, has disappeared since. There are not even pictures of the cover as far as I know. Sinbad was added to the Marvel universe later, albeit decades later (and somewhat out of character). The fans would have REALLY loved seeing Sinbad among the Marvel superheroes.

Some Peanuts strips are longer because comic strips on Sunday are made longer. However, some newspaper will omit some of the first few panels to save space. Artists have to work around this, and not put any crucial context in those first panels. This is probably why the Peanuts panels are lost, it's because some newspaper didn't run them at all.

Thank you for making this incredible video! I would love to see one about lost art.

I don't think it would be practical, since it's so big and underesearched, but maybe lost fanfics or internet fiction writing would be a cool topic to cover. I say that because the one piece of lost media that hurts me to no end is that one pokemon fanfic I wasn't able to finish.

Jeff Kaplan came up with a really eloquent way of saying "we don't know what we're doing and we don't want to make it harder to retcon everything than it already is."

The guy's name from the beginning is Ale. You keep saying "ales" like Alice, but it's meant to be read as "Ale's."

I’m surprised you didn’t mention one of my favorite comics of all time, Calvin and Hobbes. Oh well. You should do the lost Tokusatsu media, a Mario lost media, the lost media of Marvel and lost media of Transformers. Those would be glorious.

have you done a video about lost audio yet? kurt cobain’s ren and stimpy theme song, lost ricky gervais show season 4 audio, etc.
@the-NightStar3 жыл бұрын
The Cobain Ren and Stimpy thing is fake. It's never been substantiated, and it never existed. It's not lost media, it's just an unfounded, bullshit rumor.
