So this might be a stupid request, but would it be possible to make a video explaining the shelf life of vegetables, like an onion cut in half, to say the salad or the cooked chicken? I feel like I'm a bad judge of determining if something is good or not and prematurely toss food away.
@chrisstucker1813Ай бұрын
Whenever I meal prep, I’m happy to let cooked meat like chicken chill in the fridge for three days. Apparently it can last up to four days but my fridge is quite old so I don’t risk it lol. You can always just pop it in a freezer bag; it will keep well for months and whenever you want it, just pop the bag in the fridge to let it defrost for 24 hours and you’re good to go 🙂 veggies don’t last very long so I’d say a couple days and you can easily see if an onion is bad just by looking at it, you will know when you see it.
@Eugen1344Ай бұрын
Your best judges are your nose and eyes. If something doesn't feel right, throw it away. If there is mold on something, throw it away, don't try to cut around it. Raw meat should not have any strong smells, it should smell almost neutral. If it has an unusual smell (sulfur, sour, etc.), throw it away. Cooked meat is also good until it develops unusual flavors/smells that it didn't have when it was freshly cooked. Same with vegetables and salads. If you are still not sure, just carefully try a piece. If it tastes off, don't force it into yourself. Your health is more important than reducing food waste! You can also read the expiration date for things. It won't be that useful, though, if you have already opened the package

I've been having a bleh past couple days (mild mental burnout I think) with some food I used to like not really doing anything for me, but not even following Ethan's recipe, just the rough guide, I threw together spice marinated thighs in the air fryer w/ fries and made soft tacos w/ fresh cilantro, some week-old still good I-made-it aji verde, and pickled onions and cucumber. With the already-prepped stuff marinating the defrosted thigh to eating was about 25 minutes. And it put the first genuine smile I've had in a couple days, and second only to me making some banh mi a couple weeks ago mostly following Lagerstrom's weeknighting recipe. The recipes/guides did most of the heavy lifting, but there's just something magical about hacking together something that tastes good with some complex but cooperative flavors from minimally unprocessed starting materials, and not much work if you can just relax and hack it out. The tacos I made didn't transport me to any particular world location, but it definitely took me to Taste Beach, easy relaxed minimal mental effort cooking. Only thing I did do was a quick check on what goes in zaatar and harissa so I didn't pick anything too out of the blue. I tossed in smoked paprika, cumin, thyme, sumac, Badia. Pretty sure I could have still had a good dish with chorizo spices though!

Love how you cook spontaneously and just add spices based on what you have and think works. This is only achieved after years of cooking and getting confident with putting flavours together. This is how I cook most of the time. Some people call it lazy cooking, but imo if you need to follow a recipe to the word then you have a lot still to go

I've come to learn that a greek yogurt heavy white sauce is like a cheat code. I've gone without using any type of mayo/fat before aside from maybe pan drippings from grilled steak or chicken. It's a ton of flavor, adds moisture to your dish, is very low on fat macros, so it's just a super protein rich sauce with limited carbs/fat. Also, instead of frozen french fries, I've done some super basic potato wedges with my own seasonings and olive oil (similar to home fries I guess?) which is a much healthier alternative to frozen fries. Doesn't hit quite the same, but still a great amount of crunchy surface area to fluffy interior for way less calories.

You asked what folks do with their air fryers. A not so brief list of mine: Crispy pork belly (I pour off the fat periodically into silicon cupcake trays and freeze them for stews and other cooking), roasting a small batch of pre-prepped frozen kumura, potato and pumpkin for sides and more often, smaller serving sizes of vegetable soup, making a batch of 2-3 fresh cookies from frozen cookie dough, cooking and crisping canned chickpeas to use as 'croutons', crisping up nacho chips with cheese on top for reheated nacho mince. ^.^

I have a toaster oven air fryer and it’s great. Big enough to roast a 1/4 sheet of vegetables or 3 large chicken quarters. Perfect for weeknight meals without having to heat up the oven
@chrissolace2 ай бұрын
7:22 I use the air fryer for frozen fries too. For roasting vegetables, if I’m cooking for myself then it’s just faster to toss them into the air fryer for me. If I’m cooking for me and my partner then we’d do it in the oven. But I use the air fryer a good bit to cook meats too. Chicken especially for me is just easy to marinade, stick a thermometer in it, and throw it into the air fryer until it’s ready. So for me, it’s just when I want smaller batches of food since it heats up/cooks faster than in an oven.
@nouramouctar8172 ай бұрын
I totally agree that if you have the fridge and freezer space it’s more efficient to do stuff in the oven but the air fryer works so well at reheating though and I feel like you are too confident grilling on the stove so you don’t really use the air fryer for protein but that’s the main thing I do in there.

I like how this - I guess - local-to-you version of shwarma is so different from anything I've had from elsewhere, and how I prefer to prepare it. For instance, around here there's almost always a hot sauce on there and the fries are popular but very much optional. Especially chicken+fries is not something that's done much. Salad is usually very traditional like you said, with iceberg and often pickled cabbage. I personally then like it more like your version, but with like... WAAAAY less chicken. Maybe a quarter. The meat, genuinely, doesn't add much and you need quite a lot of the salad to taste everything well. Try it, it's great when it's salad-heavy.

Good job, but here are some clarifications, for those interested, although Ethan mentioned he wasn't following the traditional recipe: - what makes a shawarma is very thin slices of chicken, usually roasted on a spit (hence the name "shawarma"). this is not what went into Ethan's sandwich. - in a typical chicken shawarma sandwich, the veggies used are mostly thinly sliced lettuce and pickles (preferably Mikti pickles). - in a typical chicken shawarma sandwich, the sauce used is Toum, a Lebanese garlic sauce. - the bread Ethan used is rather called Lebanese bread than pita. So, a proper chicken shawarma sandwich is: - very thin slices of chicken roasted on a spit - fries - lettuce - pickles - toum - Lebanese bread Practically Ethan got two things right, the fries and the bread. So his sandwich is maybe closer to a gyro than it is to a proper shawarma.

I only use my airfryer for a traditional recipe from where my mom grew up. It is a tapioca bread, a relative from brazilian cheese bread, but cheese less. It is kinda hard to find recipes, I finally got my adopted aunt to teach me, she doesn't read or write and her measurements are very intuitive, but she makes the best - most like the one I remember from when I was a kid - version of this dish. Now I have bought an airfryer and have tested the recipe with more accurate measurements just for this.

I love my air fryer for all types of foods! Soft and hard boiled eggs are so easy in it. I also cook everything from chicken to steak to fish in it, with so much less mess than the stove. I also do a ton of veggies in it - broccoli, asparagus, artichokes... Depending on your air fryer, you can also take out the drawer tray and use it almost like a wok for stir fry or saucy recipes. I also like to use it for things like crunch wraps, a full meal like egg in a hole and bacon or sausage. I also use it to make croutons. I probably use my air fryer more than any other kitchen tool, including my slow cooker and instant pot. There are great youtube channels and blogs out there with a ton of ideas for healthy air fryer meals. :)

7:03 I do alot of healthy cooking with my air fryer - I have one that has a few trays in it instead of being the basket style. I'll do chicken thighs on the top rack, some chopped up potato and onion on the second, and then whatever veggies I have laying around on the bottom rack. That's the like, default 'I dont wanna cook' meal - but I also like using it as an oven that preheats faster for things like asparagus, broccoli, sweet potatoes, baked potatoes, etc.
@AwesomePC-l2iАй бұрын
I personally use drawer style Air Fryer (not the toaster oven style, those suck) for everything that needs baking. proteins (mostly fish and potatoes), vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, potato), frozen food, reheating, cookies, etc. The instant airfryer (best buy from ATK), has baking and airfryer feature. I hate dealing with the large oven, especially the hot pans that come out of it. Unless you are cooking for a crowd or meal prepping (which I never do), it is not worth using. The drawer style makes cleaning up super simple, and preheats super fast. Most recipes I don't even bother pre-heating.
@diarx12 ай бұрын
People more commonly do chicken thigh/breast/wing recipes in the Air fryer, but I think the Maryland cut is kind of slept on. One of the few cuts with skin on you can get at most supermarkets without having to spend time breaking down a chicken (air frying is all about time saving), and the skin protects it so it doesn't dry out so easily. Dry seasoning, salt, spray of oil, maybe 20 minutes skin side down, turn for another 10 minutes. Comes out nice and crispy skin. If you have an air fryer with non stick tray/basket, you can use the drippings to make a gravy or add flavor to another dish.
