I just picked up a used one today for my 5 years old son. I have Shimano Hydraulic brakes from my Trek Remedy, so excited to do some upgrades with this little bike. Will change the shifter as well just like you did. Great video by the way.

Hey Omar, Specialized has unfortunately stopped producing this bike! I know there’s currently one at Vanquish Cycles here in Tauranga. Grab one second hand and pimp it out 💪🏼💪🏼

What size rim do you need to accommodate the big roller tires?

Same as the standard rims. They come with the wheel and tyre combo 👍🏼👍🏼

Hey Victor! Thanks for watching & commenting 👍🏼 I went with Schrader valves, because that’s the original size the rims accept. Presta valves would have required a whole lot more effort (if it’s even possible). Happy riding mate!

Any idea what derailleur hanger is on this bike? My sons has bent slightly so need a replacement

Part # 9895-4021 Should be available from any Specialized dealer. Derailleur hangers can be re bent into alignment oftentimes, by an experienced mechanic at your LBS 👍🏼👍🏼

I’ve put a new rear disc, bar grips and gear shifter and derailleur on it. Struggling to find the big roller tyres but will be advertising it for sale soon. Any ideas on the best place to advertise it?

Hey Thomas, stoked you just picked up this bike for your son! The brake setup I used is the Shimano BR-M6100 (left and right, 2 pot) & the Shimano SM-RT86 Ice-tech 6 bolt discs. All of this just bolts on - you may just need to cut the brake lines to the right length & bleed them.

Hey Alex, moving the bike to click shifters is an awesome upgrade! I used the Shimano ESLM3157RA (SL-M315) shifter. There’s a 7 & 8 speed variant of this, so make sure you get the 7 👍👍

Just asking as you obviously know your stuff. Looking to get my 5y3mo daughter a 20" as she's outgrown her 14". She's 115cm and a decent rider. The Vitus 20+ seems like an insane deal for the price and I think I'd look to do similar upgrades. Did you look at that bike at all? Have any thoughts on it?

Hey Rob, the Specialized was the only bike I looked at for my son, as I ride Specialized myself. I’ve not heard of the Vitus sorry. If it looks like a sweet deal & has a similar spec for the money, go for it. The only thing I would suggest considering is the eventual resale value of the bikes & how they compare, for when your wee rider inevitably grows out of it. Happy riding mate!

Thanks for watching mate 👍 List of parts / shopping list Shimano 7 speed click shifter - ESLM3157RA Shimano Deore hydraulic brakes - EM61001JLRXRA170 (rear) & EM61001JRFPRA100 (front) Shimano 6 bolt 160mm ICETECH rotors - ISMRT86S2 x2 Stans Tubeless Schrader valves Effetto Mariposa sealant DT Swiss tubeless rim tape Replacement left side Specialized 20” grip, for the right hand side (your local dealer *may* have one, or you might need to change the grips for something else. AMS Tiger fender / mudguard Knog bell - small black You don’t need to change the derailleur or cassette. Just use the original cable housing & the gear cable that’s supplied with the shifter. I played with the idea of a Deore group set, but decided the derailleur cage would contact the tyre, or the ground…
