I am curious about the use of the year 68 BCE for Pompeii's conquest. Is this an intentional deviation from the year 63, the one usually associated with his intervention in the Hasmonean civil war?

Through my other readings it seems like Ashkelon and the surrounding areas seem to independent of Jewish rule. Does it have something to do with the area being a trading port or the people being ethically and or culturally different?
@HenryAbramsonPhD4 жыл бұрын
The latter more than the former, I would suggest.

This is awesome. Professor, do you think the different Jewish groups that were around during the Roman revolt is a direct result of the Jewish population not happy with the temple establishment not being of Aarons descendants? For example, the essenes, zealots, followers of Jesus, John and his Baptism, so on and so forth.

Hello Dr. Abramson. Thanks for your video. It didn't quite get where I was hoping. I could use your help . . . I've seen information connecting Antigonus II Mattathias to the "Matthat" listed in the genealogy of Jesus in Luke's gospel. Which would make Antigonus the great grandfather of both Joseph and Virgin Mary. Heli being the son of Antigonus and the father of Joseph. All of this seems connected with Herod's rampage of trying to destroy any and all descendants of the High Priesthood and Throne. Herod killed Antigonus and thus when the Magi came from the east (priests of Parthia) to ally with the newborn son of Mary, it vexed Herod greatly and he sought to kill him. Could you verify any of this for me. Thank you.

Why was ashkelon allowed to be independent?
@williammiller31754 жыл бұрын
I find a queen ruling quite strange for patriarchal system at any rate when the temple dances with the monarch. the monarch end up leading.
@HenryAbramsonPhD4 жыл бұрын
Interesting way to put it.
@williammiller31754 жыл бұрын
@@HenryAbramsonPhD Well sir, Israel really didn't need a monarch but apparently the Torah didn't keep them in line so The Lord relented and they ended up with David and Solomon and the bill for Solomon's extravagant lifestyle. Unfortunately, for Ephraim the rest is history.

According to a professor of Ancient cultures who resides in our community, the name of the general Pompey and the name of the city Pompeii are pronounced differently. Please verify. Also, you mention that it was 100 years from 67 BCE to 68 CE. Shouldn't it be closer to 134 years? Thanks.

Dear Professor. I'm going to request KZbin to put a ban on your Jewish History videos since they become more addicting than the most powerful drug, therefore they should be government regulated. Jajajaja. THANK YOU SO MUCH, PROFESSOR! Just to add a bit of precision on a non Jewish piece of information: Salome is not related to John the baptist but to John the Apostle and Evangelist (his mother). The mother of the baptist is Elizabeth, cousing of Mary the mother of Yeshua.

The forced conversion of Edom may not have been a coincidence. Deuteronomy 23:8-9 specifically allows for Edom to convert to Judaism. Along with Edom taking Hebron in Roman client times, I think of Jacob and Esau meeting at Hebron in order to bury Isaac in Genesis 35:27-29...I also think about how Jacob said he would meet with Esau (Genesis 33:1-14) and then Esau (Herod) would become Lord over him in Seir - which did happen (Herodian Dynasty). Jacob and his sons bow down to Esau in Genesis 33. Not a coincidence.
