You should always eject drives on a PC as well. This ensures you are not removing a drive during a write process which could case corrupted data. Depending on what programs are accessing your drive you might not even be aware you're drive is being written to.

Should also mention that Macs don’t actually need to be “shut down” every time you stop using them. Instead people should get used to putting their Mac to sleep and shutting down occasionally (every few weeks or when travelling). This was an eye opener for me when coming from Windows.

8:30 - another favorite tip for quitting apps is to use the "command" + "tab" interface. Hold "command", don't let go. Tap "tab" one or more times to cycle through your open apps (you can also just use the left/right arrow keys or even your mouse to pick the app you want). Then press "Q" to quit that app (works on iPad as well).

Great video! There seems to be a myth going around that only Macs require you to eject an external drive before physically removing it. It’s the same principle for pretty much everu operating system. Windows will complain if you don’t ”safely remove hardware” before de attaching it. The reason is that the operating system can speed up read and write speeds to USB devices by using r/w cache which stores data in the computers primary memory and there’s a very tiny risk that there are data in memory not yet written to the external drive, however these problems were more common back in the days of USB version 1.
@ValdemarDeMatos2 жыл бұрын
Correct. A modern OS should be smart enough to know if there are files at risk and instead of showing the same eject warning just inform you about what files may be corrupted, and only if that’s the case.

It creates a new virtual desktop for the application window when you do that. You can then use the Ctl+arrow key to move between them. Please be aware uninstalling a app by moving it to the bin will not uninstall any other files related to that app that are installed in various system folders. If your application has its own dedicated uninstall program I suggest you use that, over the years your system will become cluttered with useless files and in certain circumstances can cause conflicts and errors.

Yes, just remove the app package, will usually leave its other folders scattered all over inside various system places. I recommend using application cleaners (search and you will find free ones that are not actually bloated with other stuff and not free).

2:41 not necessary. As long as your Mac and iPhone are signed in to the same Apple ID, the max can use the hotspot. There is no need to toggle the allow others to join setting. Only toggle that if you want Windows, Chromebooks, other people’s Apple devices and Android devices to join. That is only instances in which you will need a password. Your own Apple devices do not need a password to join. Your hotspot will show up in the WiFi menu in your Mac and in instances of no internet and the iPhone being nearby it will ask if you want to join the hotspot

With the intro of the MAC Studio, many users are opting for non Apple monitors to avoid the cost of the Studio Display. I purchased a Samsung M8 and am very happy with my choice, especially the $1000 I saved. My one complaint is the inability to control the volume of the display using the keyboard. I don't care about changing the brightness since I've calibrated the monitor and use it for my photography. But the volume is another issue. I've tried a few workarounds and am not happy with any of the solutions I've found. Can you give us some pointers on how to solve this issue? Thanks in advance. Enjoy your channel.

to the point on the erasing a drive - choose to click the button next to the sidebar that says View - then choose "Show All Devices" ; this will give you the option to view all the partitions and format the drive - adding a MBR partition table or a GUID partition table. In addition to that you can then also format your drives as exFAT and FAT32 as well as JHFS+ or APFS. You choose the top most drive to format the whole disk. I can't believe this isn't mentioned in the video to begin with.

There’s a step I like to try before force quit. When Cmd-Q won’t work, you can use the Activity Monitor to send a message or signal to tell the app to quit. (I assume this is similar to Cntl-C from the terminal.) Anyway sometimes it works when cmd-Q doesn’t and I assume it’s less likely to cause problems than a force quit.

To access the iPhone hotspot you don't need to "Allow others to join" or remember the password. As long as Mac and iPhone are both logged into the same Apple account then the hotspot is available, and even pops up as an option when none of your preferred WiFi networks are available. That's why the option is to allow "Others" to join, ie: anybody not logged into your Apple account, and it's more secure to leave it off.
