@@olivia.a5x Horror movie might be pushing it a bit, but it is psych thriller, as it's horrifying to know that your life isn't real. Truman is put on display and all the people in his life are actors. His friends are actors, his wife is an actor and nothing is true or reliable. @4:44 - That deleted scene is indeed spooky, but just about everything the audience could have learned from it remains in the theatrical release. Christof's plan to get an on-air conception and birth, followed by a Truman Jr., are totally obvious; Christof admits half of it (including Meryl/Hannah Gill leaving the show) in his interview with Mike Michaelson (Harry Shearer). Marlon/Louis Coltrane's hidden indifference toward Truman is brutally established in the scene on the unfinished bridge. The scene was properly cut.

The reference to the 'man-made' forest explains the rows of young trees as being evidence that the film production planted them for the film. Most probably, they are new growth 'crop' of trees planted by St. Joe, who has harvested trees in the southeast for decades. Along with Georgia Pacific, these paper & pulp producing companies have 'crops' of trees that they regularly harvest and replant. I grew up in S.C. Low Country and played in these types of woods. Knowing the 30A area (where Seaside is located), there are thousands of acres of these tree 'farms' that were part of St. Joe's operations.

Christof made that argument to Truman in their final exchange: "There's no more truth out there than there is in the world I created for you. Same lies. The same deceit. But in my world, you have nothing to fear." And that's clearly all true. But Truman rejects the argument. A central message of the movie is that the control Christof exerts over Truman is tyrannical and wrong. There is nothing in the movie that suggests "things [will] suddenly be ok" for Truman outside the dome. It's just that, for the first time, his life will be his own. The dude is going to be LITERALLY unable to function in the real world. Think about his social interactions HIS ENTIRE LIFE.....his fame will only last the first meeting or two with new people, then he goes from being a quirk to a person people are annoyed to be around for being so.....stupid.

I remember a recent meme where it was being said that kids were now being taught Arabic math in school, and American parents were losing their shit, saying that that was unacceptable and infringing on our education system. Oh, the low intelligence of many in this country.
