It was exactly the way he said it was. Bodies floating down the streets in and out of the corner stores. Eventually people who were able to keep their boats safe, started boating through the streets to find survivors and supplies that were still usable. It did get ugly as well. People tend to lose their civilization in situations like that.

Eve and her husband. Well Sir if you wanted a “happy” family maybe you shouldn’t have given in to your desires. You are the reason your family isn’t happy. Then you wanna forget about Silvia like yesterday trash. Shame on you. Y’all should have called the police of that ramming of the car even happened. You gonna tell me that NO ONE noticed y’all ramming each other. I highly doubt that.

Same thoughs here. If that story is true, horrible people. And they should have called the cops when she started to harass them! So much for ”doing everything to keep out family safe”. As far as I am concerned that husband and wife belong together, awful people. I may not be religious But I belive in karma.

It's funny how the husband expected to have a happy family after he cheated on his wife and his wife is too stupid to forgive him and after ramming the car of Sylvia. How could he expect a happy family after all of that. Sick. Him and his wife.

The one about the KZbinr was the biggest eye roll. I know of more than one "beautyTubere" with facial scars. Based on how she wrote it seems more likely that she just wasn't smart enough to think of the fact that her story and scar would have more than likely blown her channel up and lead to tons of sympathy follows at the very least.

Hearing about Katrina hits hard. I was in 2nd when it happened. I never lived down there as I live way in northern Louisiana. New Orleans is still in shambles. So many people where ripped off by insurance companies and the likes. They really only fixed up the tourist areas

Yeah remember all of that too where I live in Texas we were the only ones that were willing to accept the people that we're still in the super dome able to be saved. No other state around would accept the people. Texas accepted them with open arms and most of them stayed here they didn't go back home. Sadly and please don't think badly of me for this I'm just being honest and you can look up the statistics within a year of doing that the crime rate had gone up over 100% perit's sad because we opened our arms and brought them in and took care of them and help them win no other state or even the government would then they went crazy and just started doing a lot of messed up c*** not all of course I know that But enough to wear the crime rate went up over 100 person and that's you gotta admit a lot it was a really horrible situation all the way around for everyone

My brother was in the Air Force and for some reason in the flood zone when Katrina hit. He and *all* our military personnel were on their own getting out of there. He fought his way to where he could start hitchhiking to Texas where he was able o have money wired to rent a car and get home to his pregnant wife and 3 kids on base in Colorado. Our federal government seriously screwed everyone involved in that catastrophe.

Alligator Gar will be one of those lost species because of the idiots in the bow fishing story. I'm an advocate for hunting and fishing, but going out and taking out a species that takes over 100 years to get that big because IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY BRO! is stupid and irresponsible. The dude didn't need to lose his foot over the incident, but come on, have a little respect for nature.

I agree with everything you’ve written except for your mention that the guy didn’t deserve to lose a foot. I think he absolutely deserved it and I hope he’s aware that it could’ve much worse. Leave these threatened fish alone!! If you insist on catching them for sport then do the right thing and put them back in the water like a true sportsman. Even that is questionable due to the fact that the animal has put up a valiant but exhausting fight. The person handling the fishing pole knows how exhausted they are…think of the fish. I’m left wondering if all the fish put back survive after such exertion. These animals need to be left alone so they can, hopefully, make a comeback. Fu@k that dumbass and his foot. He had it coming!! Never take Mother Nature for granted. Always be respectful of her.

I can't sleep without listening to your story telling, Joel. Thank you, you don't even know how comforting your podcast has been... I've been listening for over 4 years, since I was like 23... Your voice kept me company through an awful breakup 4 years ago, through the many nights I felt alone and scared after a diagnosis of bipolar, the days and nights and evenings I got home, exhausted from my hectic shift work job... while I stayed up for hours and hours writing research papers in pursuit of my psychology degree, while cleaning because I seldom have the time, and while anxiously panicking before a dreaded night shift.... I'm listening now... it's funny when you end up feeling like you know a person, maybe it's the strangely intimate nature of the night's darkness, being in the vulnerable state of sleep, or maybe the sheer length of time I've been a fan.. and I hope this doesn't sound weird lol I just wanted you to know that the perceivably insignificant act of having this channel has really helped connect people who live in a world of stress, loneliness and who knows what.. Thank you for helping me sleep and feel like I can relax, surrender to slumber with a comforting voice I've grown to be accustomed to.. like the voice of an old friend.

As someone who has half their family in Baton Rouge and a town named St. Amant (San Uh-mah) which is 20 min. from New Orleans, I’m going to explain how to pronounce a couple towns in these stories to you ♥️: New Orleans - New Orlins, Atchafalaya - Uh-chaf-uh-lie-uh. You did pronounce Plaquemine correctly which not many people do! Also, during and after Hurricane Katrina, hundreds of thousands of people from Louisiana who were affected by the storm fled into Texas, ESPECIALLY into the Houston, TX area. MANY of them never left and are still here today in July 2023! I love you Joel and have been a subscriber to Let’s Read for over 5 years. The story about “Crowley” is totally fabricated. Nowhere in South Louisiana has basements. At all. The whole state is basically at sea level and parts of it (like in New Orleans) are actually below sea level. You couldn’t dig a basement bc it would literally be in water. But fun story anyway.

When I was a kid many small towns would use the siren to warn of bad weather. Specifically tornadoes, or hurricanes. The reason the sound is so terrifying is because most people understood that if you were hearing the siren it was already too late to do anything about it.

Given the history of angry and borderline threatening calls and texts, it would seem the young lady survived, or the police were totally inept in investigating the death - if the story has any truth to it.

@@su0ue reminded me of my parents, but I have a little sister, and they were straight beating the brakes off each other, and I at eleven years, wrapped him up in the sheet over the sofa and the cast iron went to work and then,,,the police came out and I was begging for them to make my mom alive and she had a concussion and stitches and he went to correctional facility and cried it out cause I know it hurt, and I hated myself for it but everyone else was smiling at me and happy and it was absolutely abhorrent and every day and night and I lost my mind at eleven and live to tell about it, but it's not something that I ever planned to do, but it was made all the better,as we spoke and apologized to each other and I still love him, but I don't put up with noone putting hands on anyone else,it causes a certain rage inside I can't control, he never put anything upside her head again when I was there, for he knew it was going to end bad for him and I was going to be crying at least he was drunk and he probably didn't feel much of both broken elbows and All front teeth gone and cheek broken but he was my daddy and I would have done that for him, even though the first time I smelled gun power was a sawed off double barrel up my nose at eight and he screwed up because I was not afraid or nervous around weapons ever again, but the years of therapy don't take care of that smell, but he also never did that again, because I told him that I was just as ready to go as he was going, and he said that he knew that he had a devil little girl and I am not,I'm just redheaded but with soul will and calm unassuming anger to not be asked questions or be ashamed of not being afraid of weapons in any situation and I don't think it is very good healthy or mentally safe to go through as a child of eight years old up to eleven years old and all the time between them I never went to sleep I don't think, he shouldn't have either but he did and so I did what he needed me to do.very disturbing for anyone ever.

Marriage is what you make it I was sixteen with my husband and we married at twenty four years and we are now forty seven years old and still have the best of what I thought I would ruin, and I only had to lay hands on him once for getting in his mom's face at seventeen and two hundred eighty lbs and I was just a string bean and I don't have a proper fight or flight I don't fly I just calm in a everyone else runs kinda way, hard to explain, but I don't instigate I only react to the problem at hand and I don't know how to stop once it is there, but marriage is the best and going this month on our silver anniversary and proud for the both of us and our kids and I am just Mom and I don't spank them but they always run and get laughed at by their dad and other people who are not believing in the eyes that they view with but I guess I don't either just calm is all my eyes are capable of doing when they have made the momzilla Hot and tangled and six ft and three in to my five feet five in,115lbs, and those brats can run and climb,I just wait until they get back and act oblivious to anything else and chase them out again because I don't hit but I don't nail things down either so I absolutely have no prob hurling whatever I can get in my little mitts they don't know what it is like to get a whooping but they know what a mop broom, rocks and dishes feel like at Mach five 😮

Glad to stumble over this channel. I've been looking for things to play in the background at night while sewing/quilting thats not too distracting..classical music works well, but a lets read of short storys is a new touch that works just as well (at least for me)..guess its the calm voice..enough to not get blended out but calm enough to keep your train of thoughts. Also thumbs up to the story writers..quite a few neat ones.

Whoa...that story about Katrina was tremendous! Both grievous & touching! That right there is the mark of a "hero husband," as far as I am concerned. Bravo, sir for doing what it took to get your wife and child to safety! I'm not AT ALL taking away from them the bravery and sheer will it took on their part(s) but you held it together...if I had witnessed that man in the water, I would have been inconsolable.

Something you’ll realize growing up is that let them go. If you don’t want you to be in your life now think about how long they felt like that before hand. Focus on yourself not others, at the end of the day in reality you’re the only person you’ll have forever

@@g59_alex87 “Focus on yourself, not others, at the end of the day in reality you’re the only person you’ll have forever.” Good way to encourage selfish behavior buddy. That kind of mindset is part of the reason why so many people are selfish nowadays. You don’t deserve to have anyone in your life, you deserve to be alone for encouraging shitty behavior. Find better things to focus your life on other than encouraging selfishness, and learn to care about others.
