what does one do if they can not finger a g major chord ' d shape ? i dont mean cant do it now from lack of practice or trying , I mean if your hands dont have the stretch . I have MANY thousands of hours of practice to increase stretch of fingers and I cant even use my first and 2nd finger to play 2 finger power chords on E & A string clearly and it hurts even playing it poorly , let alone that emtire chord shape. I had similar issues with martial arts where stretching does NOT create flexibility like it might in others . Apparently my connective tissue / body structure is atypical and the axiom of time and practice in regards to stretcing does not apply to me for certain things. Apparently my lack of flexibility correlates to strength in regards to power and stamina of strength as a trade off which is useful in fighting and I can practice guitar for ( NO B.S. ) 10 hours straight without stopping without hands / jpoints getting tired . I practiced 10 hours a day ( over a holiday ) after first guitar lesson when given tabs for a- minor pentatonic and when my instructor returned 2 weeks later was gob smacked that I was shredding but my stretch is 4 frets with first finger anchored and after 20 years and RIDICULOUS amounts of effort to over come this its not happening . I have had similar issues with other things where effort + time does not = outcome and I want to punch or LOW kick people when they say this, I say low kick because attempting higher kicks send me high into the air like Charlie Brown where I end up vertical in air and land on my back . Certain parts of my body are flexible and will increase by stretching but certain parts and movements gain very little or none . NO LACK OF TRYING OR PERSISTANCE . NOT EVERYBODY IS THE SAME. When i watch 70 pound little girls with tiny fingers finger certain things and get their hands to do stuff I think WTF is my problem ? My hands are NOT small . They are above average size . I am 5 8 210 pounds and neither small nor fat and my fingers are NOT short nor are they excessively sausage like . Size 13 shoes . I ALSO have ZERO FLEX in the top of my finger joints . The first bend in my index finger does does not move backwards to do a double stop like so many great guitar players fingers I have noticed where the finger bends in a way to fret 2 strings without interference / deadening other strings . My pinky was SUPER EXTRA STUBBORN co ordination wise and NO B.S. MANY THOUSANDS of hours of practice and playing with attention to pinky to get it to be useful and I must keep it up or pinky is stupid . There is an idea that loose joints = some loss of power even if it helps with range of motion and perhaps speed in certain things . I can do 100 push ups in row and some other things most 56 year olds cant let alone people in general without insane training but my flexibility SUCKS and I dont know what to do about it in regards to guitar . I have SOME work arounds for some things but something like tghis shape is IMPOSSIBLE . I was / an a fan of Randy Rhodes as a kid and he is like some of the young Asian Girls I see doing things I can not even approach which made me think I was not trying hard enough but I am past that fallacy now but frustrated none the less . Many people play guitar just using open chords and simple shapes mostly so I wont quit but its a drag when your body refuses to do stuff and you appear " normal " and in tact and people say just KEEP doing it until you can after much time and effort . Again I have noticed that many guitar players are what is called double jointed ( misnomer ) . I can NEVER get anybody to answer me in real life or internet . I believe its because most people are not stubborn like I am and those witgh my ' condition " wash out of playing or give up so it SEEMS like EVEYBODY CAN increase flexibility and stretch but I think those that cant just quit and believe they are lazy .

Good video - kind of teaching CAGED without teaching CAGED. One thing I picked up on lately that is helpful too is your E, A, and D shapes all have the same structure of 5, 1, 3 with the 3rd being on the high string. This is cool to keep in mind because you might want to manipulate the 3rd and it's always the high string for those shapes.

I have a question regarding the placement of a chord shape. So If i made an E major chord is it called the same if i put a capo on e.g. the 3rd fret and did an E major chord shape ? does it still sound like an E major or does it differ ? i know the shape are similar but do they sound the same but with higher octave ? Is it for simplicity that we call it an E major shape ? while in actuality it is a different chord ?" new to music theory"
@MusoraOfficial5 жыл бұрын
Hey Mohammed, The shape stays the same but the actual chord name changes. Putting a capo on the 3rd fret and playing an E shape will give you a G major chord that uses the E shape.

When u move the C shape you dont have to barre all the strings. Only up to the 3th one, which is easier and stresses your hand less.
@denysabazimana67845 жыл бұрын
But I see it more helpful (for me as a beginner), for it can be easy to move to any E shape barre chords

You're right but if you play country folk or blues you are going to need it all the way across for your "walking bass"
@oneeyemonster32625 жыл бұрын
you should be able to make that C Major open shape (TONIC) as a reference....instead of using a CAPO...use your INDEX to barr.. play the other notes with other fingers.... becuase KEYS are just PITCH.. example...play the B minor barr chord shape...lift you PINKY to the the D note....whalla....D Major... Since Basic chords are just EVERY other NOTE... D, F, A........B, D,F = B dim. Play the D min or F,3, 6 ( inverted D min)...Stack the B note below it on the A string.... Make the E min7 bar chord shape ( 7th fret)..Barr completly across.. Play the F note..on the A string.You might have to shuffle your finger.. Play the F note with your but that's B Half diminished Make the E7...with low B note barr. That's the B FULL dimished If you play the E dim ( Make the C maj7 ( ROOT on 10th , D string. Play the Bb note instead,,,it's an easy chord to make.. barr completely across the 7th fret... It's B sus4 maj7....The Bb note is from the (N6) or E dim... They're ALL MOVE ABLE CHords... If play that at the OPEN/NUT... if you know what you're doing...you can easily play D harmonic min...melodic min..ect D Harmonic min b2 ( N6) is the Eb note... If you get lost...simply play the Eb maj7 barr chord, ( EASY) You'll have the option of playing C whatever..or C min in F MAJOR/Dmin...it's C7....the N6 will help cycle down to the 4th or to C min...or you can alter the Dominant of MAJOR to minor...( for cadence..ect) It's simply a REVERSE process,,,you're PUSHING DOWN...or CYCLING down to the 4th..instead of Pushing UP..A7 into D minor. or even,,,,play D min...Eb Maj7 to C min...G min..F min E dim to D min again if you want....Notice, I alter I, V chords MAJOR...to min

I didn't understand.... I got it that you can find the same note several time on the guitar, and since chords are just grouped set of notes, you should be finding the same chords at different places, but why do they sound so different ? aren't they supposed to be the same chord ? (G)

Great video! You can actually reduce basic triad chords to twelve shapes. Pick one of four string sets (EAD, ADG, DGB, GBE), pick one of three voicings (135, 351, 513). 3 x 4 = 12. Easy to learn and memorise (most if not all of those are parts of basic CAGED shapes, as shown in the video) and your armed to the teeth with chord shapes to play all over the fretboard for more interesting rhytmic playing, riff composing and chord soloing. That's also a greay gateway to jazz, if you're into that.
