I was MOCKED by abusive family who laughed when I first introduced I was giving up meat by bringing oatmeal with blueberries and date sugar to a meal. They continued to mock me hand waiting away that I cleared up a rash covering 90% of my body. They pretended it wasn’t a big deal that my energy increased . Now that one of them was diagnosed with heart disease ...... they still mock me and the guy just claims “it’s natural to get this it’s not my fault. And if you ever suggest (in response to him mocking me ) again it’s my fault I’ll punch you out. My father died of heart disease and is will not have you disrespect him by saying his diet played a role. “

This makes alot of sense to me. I had a teacher in college who would diet in yogurt and bananas. I could never do it because it made me very mucus filled and I hated that feeling (she ultimately died of cancer). What I have found is that if I consume lots of green's with a quarter cup of beans and a very thin tahini (seasoned well), my weight drops off without a problem. I'll do that for two week's and it work's every time.

Both my nutrient and stretch receptors are nowhere near as sensitive as I would need them to be in order to attain and maintain a healthy state. I'm practicing calorie density and that seems to work for me. I'm having a problem with knowing when I'm actually hungry. Comes from years of eating (because of meds) devoid of hunger. I'm convinced once I get back in tune with my true hunger drive, I'll be able to easily reach AND maintain a healthy state 😊 Thank you for this. I look forward to the next one.

@@JoAnn_Vegan_USA I disagree. That used to make sense to me but now I see how wrong it is. That is the problem. Our body is digesting food all the time that we're awake, instead of doing the tasks it should do to keep us healthy! My girl has been doing intermittent fasting for a year and lost a lot of weight and is now in great shape, but feels great and has a glow that I never saw before. And I wasn't even trying to really lose any weight, I did it for the health benefits. I haven't been eating before 2 or 3 everyday for at least 3 months and I've never felt better. Also there's the benefits of when you stop putting carbs in your body left and right and you give your body long periods without food, it uses the fat cells, instead of just waiting for the next carbs to get pumped in your mouth. Most of humanity that's how we lived. Now we do what you said three meals a day with snacks in between leaving our body in a constant state of digestion

Very intriguing. I have a deep interest in nutrition and medicine. I was unlawfully detained in a maximum security prison in Asia on false charges for 4 months in 2019 and lost 20kgs in the first month. I wasn't obese though was realistically around 15-20kgs overwieght at 95-100kgs. I was eating a lot in the prison though 80% was cooked white rice. I'm yet to identify why my body did this other than the obvious reason of the extreme stress of the situation - akin to how smoking can make/keep people slim I'd guess. I wasn't exercising as I wasn't allowed to. There were no other factors involved. I was vegan at the time and had been strict vegan for 5 years having been mostly vegan, vegetarian and occasionally omni throughout my life. I couldn't maintain a vegan or vegetarian diet in prison though I know from my exhaustive understanding of medicine, nutrition and my body that my caloric intake didn't change in prison. I was overweight at the time due to injury, age, depression and a lack of exercise, not overeating or a poor diet. I don't drink, don't smoke, very rarely (once or twice a quarter if that) consume junk food or processed food or drink any type or coffee or tea or any sweet foods, rarely if ever having dessert with a meal.

Then just stick to those kinds of foods you’ll have left, or that were listed here, for the next two to seven months. Get rid of the flour, breads, crackers, refined sugars, sauces with added sugars or fats, get rid of any animal products and over processed foods, get rid of any sugary drinks, or pastries, and avoid restaurants. Well you also have to be able to resist the dopamine release of sugar/salt/fat by having it in amounts in meals that don't trigger that pleasure response. So you really do have to make bland tasting foods, you don't simply eat less of a buttery steak if you think of it as a fuel

I suspect the ideal is to find a middle ground where we retrain our tastebuds to the point we genuinely enjoy eating satiating nutrient-dense whole foods. Stripping away the pleasure of eating altogether would be like stripping away a core part of our humanity. We're not machines, we require more than the basic components of sustenance. If that were the case, we'd all get our nutrients in flavourless paste form and be content. But in reality that would make a lot of people miserable to the point of depression. It's not wrong to want to enjoy food. The problem is that the food environment is so skewed towards heavily processed salt/sugar/fat-enhanced foods, that our tastebuds and gut microbiomes are completely numb to the pleasures of genuinely nutritious whole foods. So people should ditch the processed crap and learn to love what nature intended. I suspect that would likely recalibrate our dopamine reward systems, along with other lifestyle interventions like avoiding blue lights at nighttime, getting enough sunlight for vitamin D production, etc.
@amir3515
@amir3515 2 жыл бұрын
@@tomoakley760 there was a time I went full vegan, whole foods and mostly raw for a couple months and I remember that my tastebuds became a lot more sensitive and fruits and vegetables actually became enjoyable to eat. You just have to persist for the first month or two of everything feeling bland. I also never added salt but only on some days if I sweat a lot or did cardio but even then it was minimal. The diet was also extremely low fat most of which came from flax seed and a small amount of nuts. I remember it being one of the best feeling times of my life. Just hard to get it started and easy to fall out of it

Try adding more vegetables to your pasta and other carbohydrates. You can eat as many non-starchy vegetables as you like until you are full. You can also add psyllium husks to your food, which is filling and good for the intestines. Chia seed pudding is also filling as a dessert. You have Dr. Greger's cookbook with the recipes. Before I'm a meal drink 1 glass of cold water with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Eat soup before the meal, it contains a lot of 100 kcal, also add psyllium seeds.

Interesting. What was the component makeup of the liquid nutrition? Ingredients, carb/fat/protein, sources of the food, etc. This research could go a long way to helping people achieve and maintain a normal BMI. I eat one meal a day, as much as I want, with a balance of good quality protein, fats, and start meal with a lot (6-8 cups) of green and cruciferous vegetables. Took a few weeks to get in this mode, but I've lost 32lbs in 5 weeks. Takes a lot of willpower to not snack at first, but has gotten easier as I go along. I look forward to my meal, but don't dwell on it all of the time. I wonder if this is achieving this in a similar way.

I went plant based in 2017. I was 82 kilos and went down to 68kgs in less than a year. No exercise or fasting, just eating plant based. In 2020 I slowly went up to 70kgs from eating a little vegan junk! Which was understandable. Got the moderna jab and even thought I'm fully plant based again, I am now 74kgs. I seem to put on weight just by the actvof eating alone. Even though its low calorie density food, I'm either heavier every time i go on the scale (74.4 tgis morning) or am the same weight. In quest to lose the extra kilos, I now don't even eat after 4pm. I still can NOT seem to shift the weight. Im not having any oil either. Not sure what is happening. Could it be the side effect of the jab? It's OK if it is, I just want to know what to do to change it. I'm starting to feel a little frustrated from it all. Any thoughts? Thanks very much x

Jennifer, if you haven’t already, get your hormones checked (progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone). As we age we lose progesterone first, and can become estrogen dominant which causes weight gain. There’s some great new information on HRT and it shows it’s actually helpful and not what the Women’s Health Initiative findings were in 2002. Doctors are still catching up and women are getting relief again. It protects your heart, brain, and bones. Also, if you haven’t already, get your thyroid checked. It too can cause weight gain. Best to you.

Though plant-foods do increase AMPK, so it might not happen., but that is what tends to happen where people fail. You have 150 pounds to lose, try to take it as a marathon rather than a sprint.

@@JuanGonzalez-0308 Just know that people doing things like intermittent fasting or diets in general can shut down the metabolism if calories go too low for too long. Biggest Loser contestants still had a slow metabolism years later. Where people who never dieted could eat 2,000 to 3,000 calories, they could only eat 800 to 1,000 because of how their body had responded to being low calorie for so long.

Love the animation, Dr. Greger! Thank you so much for continuing to get the message out! I have found that when I eat just WFPB fiber rich foods, I only consume 700-900 calories in a day and am so full and satisfied, so I just add some nuts into it and continue losing weight!

@@dj-fe4ck yes, I eat lots of greens, fresh and frozen veggies, fresh and frozen fruit, legumes and lentils and either potatoes, brown rice, quinoa or oatmeal, and I eat until I am very full and just can't eat anymore. I was overweight but am now 126 lbs (5'4") and I continue to lose weight, albeit very slowly now that I'm a healthier weight. Perhaps the amount (# of spoon fulls) eaten by the obese people is mostly determined by how good the food tastes to them. That is, the "bland liquid" wasn't appetizing so they could only "stomach" (so to speak) X number of spoon fulls before becoming sick of it. This could also explain the study results...maybe.

It sounds like obese people's bodies can detect they are fat, and can easily cause them to undercut enough to lose fat mass, IF the food they eat is bland and boring. That explains why the potato diet is so effective (when the potatoes aren't fried or covered in fat and salt).

I didn’t become overweight by eating cuz I was hungry. A lot of big people never let themselves become hungry. I eat because I want something, not because I’m hungry. The only thing that ever helped me was the drug fen phen. I never thought about food or cared about food. I had to consciously make myself eat. I loved it. I lost 100 lbs in less than a year. As soon as they took it off market I gained it back in a third of the time. I would take it again if given the choice.

Honestly, you have most people saying bad things about the animations and VERY few, saying they actually like it. Then, you have those who don't 'care', they just want the information(this isn't a GOOD THING EITHER). Why still do something that isn't getting a good reception? Especially, when there's a huge portion of people saying it actually DUMBS the information down. Remember, for each person who types something, there are what, 8-15 others thinking the EXACT same thing, but will never type? That's telling.
