This video is talking about bad meats, good nuts, veggies, etc. Then their are vegans that don't eat oil at all. So the junk food people, and the meat eaters and the non oil vegans hate this because it disproves their diet/lifestyle.The bottom line in the video explains the study, no one wants to listen because they are passionate about their food beliefs. Calorie counters don't like this either because they like their candy/ junk food and justify it as lower calorie, but the nutrients in nuts are overall better as a snack AND a meat replacement, as this man is trying to prove. No one wants to change their eating habits, they just want to troll people who give them info they don't want to hear and instantly give the guy a hard time. Sad.

+Gigi D i agree.. there's literally an independent DOCTOR talking and validating his points with scientific proof and yet narrow minded people are like 'nope'

I disagree that "non oil vegans hate this" because they have nothing against eating whole foods that contain oil, such as avocados, olives, corn, nuts and seeds. "No oil" refers to avoiding consuming the oil that has been extracted and separated from those foods so you are only consuming only the fat and none of the other nutrients contained in the whole food.

At 5'4" and 110 pounds, your weight isn't just "pretty normal," Diedra, you're slim. 110 pounds is considered slim for someone even 5'2". So excellent news about the nuts not affecting that. I just hope you are eating raw nuts so you're getting the best of everything nuts have to offer!

Peanuts are legumes. And very moldy ones at that. In fact organic, less processed peanuts have the highest amount of aflatoxin. Not to mention high temperature roasting oxidizes the fats. They are also high histamine foods. Peanuts are terrible for health. Try walnut butter. Raw sprouted walnut butter. You can thank me later ;)

My personal theory is that nuts reduce fat cravings by loading you up with essential fatty acids, breaking the cycle where the body keeps indiscriminately demanding fats only to notice later that none of the acids were the essential ones it really needed, leading to renewed fat cravings. The cycle stops when you give the body what it was really looking for.

I realize that a SMALL...(very small)...portion of nuts in the diet...is good. Anyway...report back on your pistachio nut experiment!

+Alan Heath What do you mean "it works?" All this means is that all calories are not created equal, despite the insistence of the establishment and coattail-riders who suck up to the establishment and think the energy balance model is a meaningful thing. I guarantee you a similar thing can happen when you add other nutrition dense foods to the diet, such as fat or quality protein, and leafy vegetables and low sugar fruits. But, nuts are a much easier unit to quantify and add to a diet as a separate entity.

I have found that I can eat an incredible amount of raw sprouted walnuts of fresh cashews without any weight gain issues. When I say incredible I am talking up to 9 pounds a month. I have since cut back but still eat a significant amount. I also think there is something going on with how much of the nuts are actuality digested. I don't think we can count the full amount of calories when eating them. Chewing does not break them down all the way and many small pieces pass through undigested. I would be willing to bet that 1/3 of the nuts are not digested. I would also be willing to bet that nut butters would cause more weight gain

In the past few weeks I've decided to add a some nuts back into my diet, when I read that nuts can decrease a persons risk of death! (You can find that study at the Harvard gazette website.) I also figured I needed a bit more vitamin E and selenium in my diet, so I picked brazil nuts. I'm HCLF vegan but it hasn't helped my acne, even though they all say nuts and higher fat foods hurt your skin. Well I gave it a chance, figuring I'd gain a little weight but it would be worth it for the nutrition. And guess what? NO WEIGHT GAIN. At all. And also, no issues with more acne (any more than normal, I mean). :) So happy!

I did see that research, however it was in search of what was missing due to my fibromyalgia. So i'm deficient in this area i'm guessing.... and i can't eat fish, or have iodine, so i have to find other ways for vitamins. It must be doing something cause i'm completely off all prescription and over the counter pain meds, I had surgery not long ago, and possibly have concern over cancer... however i am doing everything natural and recently fell getting a bad huge bruise, which healed in a week... i've never healed like that. So Good Nutrition can make a difference. Of course all we can do is pray what were doing is right.. it's not easy or fool proof. I was making strong improvements till a dumb doctor gave me a vaccine which landed me in the hospital nearly dying. If it wasn't for my strong belief in natural herbs and vitamins who knows how it would have cleared from my body.... it took over 6 months of h*ll to get back some normalcy and even then i have moments -issues from this damage. They keep trying to kill me, but should be studying why i'm still alive...lol.

i'd say raw. When they're roasted it's usually in an oil - meaning extra calories, trans-fat and way more variables, even dry roasted stuff usually has some kind of seasoning and the natural nut oils can become trans-fats from the heat.

This is crazy! I had no idea about this, and in the summer this past year I was habitually eating (what i later calculated to be) approx, 3000 calories on average per DAY from nuts alone. Like we aren't talking only 1 or 2 handfuls. I just really liked nuts. and I noticed NO significant weight gain (a little bit, but nothing crazy.. after a week or so of not eating nuts I would look totally 'normal' again which causes me to believe it was from the extra sodium - i like my nuts salted). I do work out quite a bit, and am a fairly fit person, but you would still think at that amount something would happen... I am also vegan, so most other foods I eat are calorically quite low. I actually stopped eating them as much, because I figured there would eventually be inevitable weight gain. But looks like I'll be going back to my old ways! Thanks for the video!

Its insulin, not calories. See Jason Fung's lectures if you want to understand this "paradox". According to Fung, calories dont matter, insulin drives weight. Nuts are higher in fat than carbs, so they are unlikely to add weight due to the lower effect on insulin. And the fiber acts as a protectant against insulin. I have found I can lose weight simply by eating more fats than carbs each day (no need for something as extreme as keto unless you are type 2 diabetic maybe), and restrict eating time to 8 to 10 hours a day. Both keep insulin low. But I dont pay attention to calories. I only worry about avoiding food that will have an adverse effect on insulin, like sugar. The low fat fad is a losing strategy. You will always be hungry unless you have the discipline to eat completely unprocessed food. The continuous eating keeps the insulin high. And even some people will struggle on high carb eating unprocessed. Some people are just more insulin resistant it seems. Gregor can't give up on the calories in/calories out model just yet.

Then I tried doing a low-fat high-carb whole food plant based diet, so mostly starches like WHOLE grains, sweet potatoes, winter squashes, legumes, plus non-starchy veggies, and fruit. I not only lost weight, I lost it consistantly and effortlessly while doing no exercise other than my standard 10,000 steps of walking per day and got down to a weight I hadn't seen since high school. It's been about a year since I lost that initial weight and none has come back on and I continue to eat no sources of increased fat, no nuts, no oils, no animal products, no avocados. About the most concentrated amount of fat I eat is my 1 tablespoon of flaxseeds. So don't believe the whole insulin hype, it's obviously untrue, if I'm losing weight while stuffing myself with carbs and having almost no fat!

@@dvdmon Your success isn't inconsistent with the insulin as culprit hypothesis, actually. Dr. Robert Lustig advocates a real food diet with lots of fiber to lower insulin resistance, as it is refined carbs in processed food that is leading to fatty liver disease, metabolic syndrome and obesity. But it's not about the calories; it is about the insulin primarily. Some other hormones, as well. Plenty of info from Lustig himself available online if you want details.

@@Ekrindul I ate lots of fiber when I was doing low-carb. Followed Eades Protein Power, which emphasizes getting lots of whole plant foods, but only low-carb ones. The problem is, when you eat lots of meat, dairy, and eggs, you still end up with heart disease, or at least that was the case for me after 13 years of being pretty loyal to that way of eating. Never was able to get below 140ish (I'm short) on that plan, despite periods of heavy exercise. When I went completely plant-based I just get losing 1-2 lbs per week give or take for about 6 months and ended up around 125lbs. Since then whenever I weigh myself I'm always between 125 and 130. Doesn't matter how much or little I'm exercising, my body seems to just sit there at that ideal level. I feel like after talking to many others like me they have a very similar experience. Getting the fat out of the diet (but also processed stuff, including oil and sugar) and animal products seems to make this pretty effortless.

I actually didn't like nutritionfact.org, because I'm a keto advocate, however after looking deeper in nutrition keto and vegan both work, because the most problems are not exactly fats or carbs, but the mix of them causes problems, and also the proccessing of any - carb or fat makes it food for your fat stores and not your body. Also great review for nuts :) I was concerned about overeating them, however I always checked that my weight stayed the same. It was quite a surprise, so these studies assured me, everything is fine.

Are seeds such as Sunflower seeds considered the same as nuts in these studies?

I stopped all nuts and oils, and lost 23 pounds in three weeks. I was eating about 6 or 8 handfuls, maybe more of nuts, snacking throughout the day, using them in my vegan dishes. Walnut burgers 🍔 are amazing. Now count them, 2 macadamia nuts, a few pecans, no almonds yet Weight still off. YAY 🕺 🕺 🕺

Main reason people eating Pistachios didn't gain weight is because it is so damn hard to get it out of its shell you burn though all the calories getting it out. (This is a joke for those of you who don't understand it)....

I bought 'How not to die' when it came out, recently started seeing the videos and have subscribed. Most of the videos I see come up somehow then I select, or I search a topic. However many videos like this one end with a promise for something to be tackled in the next video. But i dont know how to find those next videos. Are there serial numbers or dates, could someone suggest a way to find succeeding videos? Thanks. Of course the book and the videos are wonderful, I shared the book cover and information on facebook and WhatsApp when it was new and again recently. Incidentally, speaking for myself, I don't like the title, otherwise of course the book is great. My regards and good wishes to Dr. Greger. More power to your... mind, pen, video cameras. And thanks very much for sharing the lifesaving and life enhancing knowledge and ideas.

Why do we still insist on measuring caloric intake? It is obvious that this metric has never been a reliable indicator for anything useful.

@@Green-Horizon2 Can you provide an example of when it might be useful?

@@kathyfausett9301 Weight loss is simply determined by calorie intake and outtake. In losing weight, intake seems to be significantly more important thsn for example doing sports.

@@Green-Horizon2 Sorry, calorie in-calorie out doesn't come close to explain it. Would be neat and simple if it did, but if it were true, you couldn't double your caloric intake and still lose weight. You can do that on a keto diet. I'm not suggesting that you do this, but it happens.

@watchearthlings82529 жыл бұрын
+Thain Rose That's a bit more processed, might not be healthy at all. At whole foods they have a machine where it grinds the nuts into butter. That's probably what you are looking for. It's a bit more costly, but definitely better for you.

+Definitely Not Vegan why? there's plenty of brands which entail the exact same process
@watchearthlings82529 жыл бұрын
Even if they are vegan, most processed foods aren't healthy. Some companies could go out of there way to keep it as natural as possible. Still at the end of the day if you want the "best" it's better to just directly grind the nuts.
@rokujones9 жыл бұрын
+Thain Rose Popular brands of peanut butter usually have sugar added to them and also oils that might not be so healthy for you. Peanut butter should be seen as a treat or desert and something rare to your diet if possible.
