Oh Pat, I love reminiscing with you. I wish we still had S&H Green Stamps. I loved them. I remember when I was young and we got all kinds of great things from the Green Stamp Store. We never had Top Value Stamps around here, at least that I'm aware of. But I sure loved those Green Stamps. My Mom told me many stories about the ration stamps. I love that white sweater you have on today. That is beautiful. And it looks so beautiful with your blue glasses. We have tons of snow here In Hanover PA. It's freezing. Spring is around the corner. We shall hang in there. I hope Jan and Charlie get their frozen pipe problem resolved. It's just always something to deal with. Love you my friend. Stay safe and Warm. from Shirley in PA.

I can remember our mother was an ardent green stamp collector. And then there was an envelope full of the yellow stamps. She meticulously laid row after row of stamps in her books, & then she would stack her completed books & secure them w/ a rubberband. It was said that they were traded in for camping equipment, like the Coleman water cooler, ice chest, lantern. Don't know how true that is, but that was story handed down over the yrs. All I do know is that it got us thru a number hurricanes in Florida & Louisiana. Thank you for sharing your stories & history. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. God bless. Sallie, Pensacola FL

Yes! I'm 71, and grew up in the Northeast, Pennsylvania and then, mostly, in Massachusetts. My mother collected S&H greenstamps, and used to ask us kids to paste them into the book. But I have no idea if she ever got anything useful from them (?) My mother also collected "plaid stamps." I dont know if that was a northeast regional thing...But thanks for these old memories 😉

I am 53. My granny and papaw used to shop at the Big Star grocery store in TN and would save their S&H green stamps and put them in booklets. Then when they had enough they would take them to the S&H Store in Nashville to purchase things with them. Sometimes Christmas gifts for the family. I remember sitting at my granny's kitchen table and wetting the stamps and putting in the books for her. She would wet a sponge to make it easy. I never saw the Top Value stamps.

Love this video Granny Pat! We had Blue Chip stamps along with S&H stamps. I liked the larger stamps that went along the sides of the pages over the little ones. One memory I have is that my mom used the stamps to get our toys one Christmas. We weren't expecting anything because times were tough and were so surprised and happy over our presents. I used to help our neighbor put hers in her books too and she had the little water bottle with the sponge on it which I thought was fun. I love seeing the holders for the books and stamps too that you have. Those are real treasures!😊❤

Soon as we got our groceries put up I sat down and put my stamps in the book. When I got a few books filled I would choose something in the book and I let my little girl choose something. We were about 30 Miles from the store so we would take turns going to redeem them. Wow we loved our stamps.

Granny Pat, you sure did take us down memory lane! I was the firstborn in our family. My mom and dad were young when they married, and they didn't have much money. They worked hard, but they were saving up for a home, and there wasn't much left for any extras. When I was old enough to be trusted, Mom let me lick the stamps and put them in her book. Then she and I would dream about the things we might get. Those little books represent many hopes and dreams to those of us old enough to remember. It was wonderful to see your books and holders and to hear you tell about them.

It held up just as though it was maple and we used it for both our children. I wonder why the savings stamps are no longer issued. My husband and I and two of our best friends went to auctions many, many years ago and we noticed things were new and after our first or second trip, I noticed the items that were being auctioned off were the exact things from the collection catalogs! Later, we saw some people had brought the catalogs with them. The only thing we got was a ping pong table!

We went to his house & found his mom’s eagle stamps & took them, cashed them in & got money for gas. I’m sure she missed them, but she never said anything about it. I am a 72 year old Memere (French for Grandmother 😊) with four grandchildren. In my early twenties as I had my first child and was grocery shopping for my family I began to collect Greenstamps! My new husband and I were living in Berlin, New Hampshire in the middle apartment of a triple decker my in-laws owned and had beautifully refurbished for us. Berlin was a thriving community then of predominantly French Canadian descent. I had met my husband in Florida when he had been discharged from the army (Vietnam war) and was visiting his aunt and uncle down there. My Greenstamps made it possible for me to have a few pretty things as we also had little money. With those wonderful stamps I was able to acquire my first Fenton milk glass hobnail pieces. A beautiful bowl, two small vases, and eventually I was gifted a beautiful ‘Gone with the Wind’ lamp all of which I still own and treasure today. I am mystified why young people fathers days often have such little regard for things their families collected and treasured. It’s part of a family’s history. I understand why one wouldn’t keep everything but I don’t see the thinking behind tossing it all. I thank the heavens my daughter and grandchildren don’t think that way!

Hello Gramma, I saved my green stamps for a small suitcase I took with me on a trip I won to go to Germany from my school. I have a metal stamp saver hanging up which also has a list of basic grocery items to circle with a washable pen or maybe crayon to help you make a weekly shopping list. We also had gold bond stamps along with s and h. I also was the only girl in my family to sew from the age of 6. I sewed on my mother’s Singer feather lite. I used that little machine to put in zippers and buttonholes when I was 12. My mother always got me nice material so my clothes turned out beautifully. When I was in college I sewed my shirts. When I had my first two babies we didn’t have much money so I sewed clearance scrap bundles of flannel to sew the blankets, kimonos, and sacks, and baby washcloths. My older sister wanted the little singer when I moved back home and I miss it so much. My whole young life was spent sewing on that machine. I also was given a yellow step stool with the smaller step stool beneath. Love your videos! Take care.

I have a vague recollection of them, but they were slowly fading when I was a kid in the 70s. How did you get your hands on that absolutely marvelous collection? Jan’s? So fun! I fancy myself a June Cleaver type, collecting these and trading them for Pyrex, or canisters, or a chenille bedspread! None of the stores my mother shopped at did S&H Green Stamps or Top Value Stamps. Instead my mother collected the Betty Crocker coupons from the boxes and redeemed them for silverware and other things. She "bought" my Oneida silverware with the coupons she collected!

You look especially lovely tonight, Pat. Yes, I was one of millions of ladies who saved Green Stamps. I lived in the Chicago area. You could even collect them from gas stations. I don't remember seeing Gold Value stamps at all. In my MOM'S day, it was dishes or dish towels in boxes of soap. Lastly, I still have my mom's ration book from WWII. Love me some crispy corn sticks!!

Your mom’s ration book is definitely a keepsake. It has its own historical value.

My Mom & my older Sisters collected S&H Green Stamps and I remember Gold Bond stamps also. I collected green stamps as a newlywed in 1977. I bought me a Hamilton Beach Blender in Harvest Gold. Simple life at its best!!! Nice memories

We collected Blue Chip stamps and S & H. I remember going to the redemption store. We bought a new hamper and a toilet cleaner! My grandmother had my sister and myself lick the stamps, so she let us pick out something. It felt very special. Thanks for the reminder😁

Maybe the yellow stamp container box was used in the store to have the stamps handy to pass out. The divided sections remind me of a cash register drawer, and that is what makes me think it might have been used in the same way. I collected S & H Green stamps and still have some around here somewhere, I used them to get things for my children when they were infants. I also have have some of the WWII ration stamps my family had. You have inspired me. I'm an author, and am 83 years old. I've been thinking of starting a KZbin channel - if I can figure out how. I love your stories, and your wonderful voice. .

Pat, I"m glad you're off the median. In your warm home! Here in ny we had Grand Union supermarket chain. I'll be 65 on the 23rd. Grand union had triple SSS blue stamps. My grandma collected them. My mom had no patience for stamps. The redemption store nearby was a big deal. I was a kid. Don't remember much. Around 1971. I was 12. We would help nanny put them in the book. The mdse went by how many books. She got little things for her apt. I have some stuff I picked up at house sales or ebay. My friend at work said it was unrealistic. To think you were getting all this stuff. I dont really now. I know the a&p had I believe green stamps. Same with coupons. They werent big back then.

We had Gold Star stamps and Pinky stamps. When you redeemed them for merchandise, you had to pay the taxes. I live in Quebec, Canada! Thank you, as always, I enjoyed spending time with you!❤️🇨🇦🙏
