Great video! Best beaches are in Negombo (north of Colombo). Hikkaduwa (and surrounding areas) better for diving, but still good beaches. Negombo is where everyone goes, so it's pricier. Other than that, Sri Lanka is known for its gems - in particular blue/pink sapphire. The ancient Chinese dubbed Sri Lanka 'gem island'. The ancient Greeks dubbed it 'teaching island', due to its Buddhist scriptures/philosophy. Before you leave perhaps try to visit one of the many jewellers that create amulets for good luck - they can match a stone to your zodiac/birth sign and you wear it for healing/good luck. There are also some nice ayurvedic spas if you want to 'reset' and meditate on life and your next moves. Enjoy the rest of your stay, take care and good luck!

Hi Dany, my family and I stayed at The Fortress Hotel in Feb 2023. During this visit, my 7 year old daughter rescued 80 turtle eggs (from local poachers and street dogs) and buried them at the hotel turtle hatchery. We received a message from the hotel once the eggs had hatched. I believe these are the baby turtles you show in your video, being released back into the sea! My daughter was super excited when she saw your video and the baby turtles! 😊

Just to give you a little insight. Usually when the mama turtles lay their eggs in the beach, they get eaten by predators. What the hotel has done is kept the eggs in a safe place until they've hatched so the baby turtles can safely go into the ocean. I think it does more good than harm.

Negombo beaches are beautiful but have lots and lots of trash. The city need to work on them. But also volunteers need too do clean up projects. I live in Hawaii and volunteer beach cleanups are part of life here.
