@@anthonyclifford2628 Yeah, plenty of independent tests have proven that to be absolute bunk. You're paying for a name and a dealer relationship with Snap-On. There are plenty of mid-priced tools that are at least a match in quality and durability and are sometimes better. Even Harbor Freight's Icon torque wrench is more accurate than Snap-On and has been tested to be so repeatedly by several different reviewers around the KZbins.

I'm a heavy equipment mechanic I use Craftsman Snap-on Mac Harbor Freight they all do the same. What happens you get these younger guys to get suckered into buying a $10,000 box and then $10,000 worth of tools and they're in debt for Five years my advice don't be that guy hand tools anywhere would do just as good this ain't the 70s no more where they just had Snap-on Mac Cornwell. The other tools has stepped up their game and they're just as good if not better in some cases.

I'm a diesel mechanic. I love my icon impact sockets. Everything else is Pittsburgh, Tekton, or Kobalt. All crammed into a $120 craftsman shitbox. I can do 98% of the work with just this and i have maybe $1,500 invested in it. I 100% agree with you. theres only a couple guys in the shop with tool truck gear. Everyone else uses "the cheap stuff" and we're all just fine. And not in debt up to our tits.

i am a truck driver and i occasionally go look at tools when they stop at our shop. snap on is ridiculous nonsense. we also have lakeside tools stop, he sells tekton, irwin, channel lock ECT ECT. i bought a vise grip set off that truck, great tools and not horrible priced, sure he was a little more then online but i didnt feel totally robbed buying from him. i may buy something from him in the future. i gradually add more tools for my tool box at home, im a home mechanic not turning wrenches for a living. i replaced my harbor freight Pittsburg locking pliers with real vise grips because the harbor freight "vise grips" are worthless

I've worked as a mechanic for years and used all kinds of tools, from to cheap, bottom barrel to the mast expensive like Snap-On and I feel that as long as you stay out of the bottom barrel stuff, just about anything works well if your using it correctly. As for the rest, well I have broken them all at least once and one doesn't seem to fail much different then another.

I've been reading through comments from "professional mechanics" on here and a lot of them are just downright pricks. Glad to see someone tells it like it is. My dad was a mechanic for nearly 50 years, and his tool box is like Heinz 57. Lots of older snapon, matco, cornwell, craftsman, some no name china stuff etc. I've used a lot of these tools over the years and my own tool box (all 3 of them) has mostly cheaper stuff but not bottom of the barrel stuff. I can count on one hand the amount of tools I've broken, and I'm not necessarily easy on tools. After years of using all of these both high end and low end tools. Some of my favorites are the cheaper stuff I've bought. Most of the snap on stuff I've used including their ratchets I actually don't like all that well. If there's one thing I learned from my dad being a mechanic and growing up paycheck to paycheck it goes in order. 1: get a better job than that. 2: don't work for assholes. 3: your income is to live your life and support your family. Not have a snap on tool debit larger than your mortgage on your house.

This year I bought my first Tekton tools. 3/8 impact sockets. deep & shallow, SAE & metric. Was very impressed. I have since added a few of their 90 tooth ratchets and other items. Love how slim those 90 tooth ratchets are. I think Tekton will be my first go to place from now on. Seen torture tests on some Tekton stuff (including here) and they have done well. 90% of my stuff was the old Craftsman...USA made that I started buying many years ago when I worked at Sears during college. But since Craftsman is no longer USA made I looked elsewhere and to me, the Tekton seems to be a bit better quality than "new" Craftsman. Nothing wrong with Snap On our any of the tool truck brands and I am glad they continue to be US made. But I am not a professional and simply can't afford those prices. I do have a couple of Snap On (just for fun) ratchets that were lightly used, in great shape and well priced..for Snap on. Very high quality to be sure. But for a non pro....or a young guy starting out who needs a lot of tools immediately, it is hard to beat Tekton quality at that price point.

I love Tekton! Their sockets sets and combination wrenches are in an insane deal and as mentioned, they don't skip sizes. I do pay a premium for ratchets though. The KTC Nepros ratchets from Japan are the most precise I've ever felt. Extremely smooth and almost no slop between the teeth.

I went out and bought a bunch of icon tools when they first came out. They are pretty good but some of the 1/4 ratchets were just defective out of the box. Exchanged them for new ones and they worked just fine

I bought a tekton adapter set in 2014. Needed to break a caliper bracket loose in 2021 when it was -30 outside and didn't have the right ratchet and socket combo or air tools so I had to use a 1/2 to 3/8 tekton reducer. Put that on a breaker bar and snapped it right off. Didn't realize i bought impact reducers as that was the first time I used them. Emailed them. They asked me what I used it for. Told them the truth and they told me not to use them with a ratchet and sent me a new one. So good on them.

Just bought a Tekton 1/4 and 3/8 standard socket set, plus a 3/8 metric. I really like just being able to work out of the case they come in. I think the Tekton 3/8 ratchet is just as nice as my Matco 3/8 ratchet. Thanks for the video.

Pitburg from harbor freight is an option,and a good one, to the Icon.For around $230 of so you get 1/4 3/8 +1/2 inch all in one case. Okay they are not the best but they are good enoygh for the DIY guys out there.Also,H arborf Freight has colored sockets that are the BOMB.Metric or SAE I use them{colored sockets} on my Earth Quake with no failures yet.. Good tools good price and amazing quality for the price. Yes,I like Harbor Freight.

I like the Pittsburg tools too as someone starting out. They’re a lot cheaper than the Icons and from what I’ve seen they are on par with durability and just a little behind with quality, but if a tool’s defect makes it unusable it’s easy to get it swapped out.

If you are going to be working on oily or greasy things, try to avoid the soft-handle ergonomically correct tools. Look for all metal and hard plastic handle tools.

Bro for real I’ve been a diesel tech on big rigs for over a year now and I’ve lost my 9/16 and 1/2 wrench and I paid for the 9/16 on the truck and it was a pretty penny the later I checked the price for 1/2 inch and it was more then 30 bucks dude I’ve got co workers who have in the trade for years and have had their harbor freight wrenches since they started. I also like the Kobalt sets from Lowes. You can also get a 1/4 and 3/8 set with ratchets for around $200. Lifetime Warranty and there are lots of Lowes stores to swap them, if needed. I have not had any problems using them. Paying SnapOn prices just does not make any sense. I hear that more of the Tekton line is being made in the USA, so even that rationale for SnapOn will soon be moot.

I was originally considering a blue-point set but from my research, including this video, I am seriously considering: tekton chrome sockets, sunex impact sockets. I think these two brands make quality items for great value, but I also think you get the best value by mixing them as I believe each to be better at one thing. Just my two cents, would love to hear from others with experience on their thoughts on this conclusion

I have found Sunex sockets to be very strong. I have the short hex set (impact rated), torx universals, some 3/4 Sunex sockets also impact rated but not used for impacts. Very strong never damaged anything ever and no visual difference other than normal wear marks from fitment into bolts etc

I bought both Tekton sets.... Tossed a Tekton shallow 13mm on my Milwaukee 3/8" stubby. Lets just say Tektons replacement policy is amazing. Uploaded a pic of the broken socket and my address. Had tracking in less than a 24hrs and a new socket a few days later. Now i'm eyeing the 87 1/2" piece impact set.

I have some Tekton wrenches and sockets and I'd say they are 90% the quality of my SK stuff (which of course is 4 or 5 times the cost). I just discovered Tekton's pry bars are made in the USA and couldn't resist; I haven't had a chance to really work them but they feel just fantastic.

Buy what you want, but I still prefer Snap-On for many reasons, and I am willing to pay for premium quality and performance. I am not an exclusively Snap-On owner. Of my 50 premium quality ratchets at least 15 are other brands. Snap-On not only offers premium quality and function, but they offer style and size option ranges other brands don't offer. I like to choose the specific style that affords the best function. In my ratchets I own chrome handles, hard plastic handles, soft grip handles, long handles, short handles, stubby handles, palm handles, screw driver handles, round head, pear head, bent handle, flex head, locking flex head , etc. I don't come close to owning all of the styles and sizes offered by Snap-On. Snap-On was very slow to offer many fine tooth ratchet options, so I went elsewhere except for a few of their round head ratchets. When they offered their fine tooth pear head style ratchets I came back to Snap-On. They are silky smooth, small profile and fabulously rugged. Occasionally I find a particular tool that I prefer over my Snap-On. I am pleased to use that other brand when its performance exceeds the comparable Snap-On. I kit up some ratchet and socket sets for portability as a lot of my work happens in the field. My go to 1/4" drive ratchet and socket kit has deep and shallow metric and standard sockets, includes 15 extensions, screw driver handles and swivels, and 6 ratchets. It is all Snap-On except for one Matco ratchet. Matco got it right on that tool. In spite of my aliegence to Snap-On, I use that Matco more than the others combined. That is my only Matco ratchet. I haven't picked up another Matco tool that compares to that ratchet. I have purchased a smattering of Matco products, because they were a better cost and seemed to be an acceptable value. In general Matco to me seems to be a second tier tool. I use them because I own them and infrequent use doesn't justify upgrading. I have owned and used premium grade tools for decades. Inferior and value branded tools frustrate me. I have been retired for years, but I still buy new tools regularly even though they are currently just for hobby use. My new tool purchases for mechanics tools are almost exclusively Snap-On. I economize by purchasing used tools. Craigslist and pawn shops have a steady flow premium tools in excellent condition.

You can get premium quality and performance without paying absurd amounts of money. I have a gearwrench flex head 120 tooth ratchet that I once put a cheater pipe on with all my weight and to this day works perfect, doesn't skip a single tooth. Try that with a low quality ratchet and it will pop. You can get great tools for low prices you just have to look around and be willing to do the research.

I love snap on. I bought a lot of stuff while I was eligible for the student discount through college. I likely wouldn’t buy any snap on tool for full retail price. I just really love tools and snap on is a must have for anybody that enjoys using tools or collecting tools (not saying you need a full set of snap on tools, but maybe you collect ratchets)

I use Snap-On and Tekton, yes Snap-On is very expensive most of my tools are Snap-On but they are really strong and last a long time I also have Blue Point wrenches and they are really good. But most of my sockets are Tekton they are really good and they have never let me down. But Snap-On is also a really good brand for tools very great quality. Yes the prices are dumb but they are worth it(some times not all the time) Blue point is also a good brand.

I have broken 3 Tekton long handle flex head 3/8 ratchets. Tekton has replaced each one with no questions. You go on the website for a warranty claim, snap a photo and within hours your NEW replacement is in the mail. Great customer service.

Bought the 3/8 9" icon ratchet used it for maybe month and the screws started coming out. I know it's not that big of a deal, but I didn't like that I had to mess with it and will continue to over time. Bought the 3/8 8" Matco 88 and I am well pleased.

this is a well presented and honest review of buying this tools and just straight face value. i would however like to leave my 2 cents from a professional heavy truck mechanics point of view. well the value of a snap on socket is for a 1/4 flank drive set is there un-match (other then mac tools flank drive sockets maybee...) ability to remove a rotten and or stripped bolt/nut. now this rings true across most of snap-on's sockets in all drives and sizes however when i pull out my 1/4 set im probably doing engine work or interior work, two places when stripping a bolt becomes a nightmare quickly..... so since i use my tool for a living i do own the 400$(canadian $) snap on set very comparable to the tekton kit in this video (for only 50$ us) . so if u are a pro tech where u make your living with your tools i do believe it is worth the money for snap on, if u r a DIY or anything else im sure the tekton kit is the best bang for your buck! ps im not a snap on everything guy tbh i perfer mac tools but in the end i have to give credit were its do and snap on makes a dam good socket!

I really have a lot of tools, probably more than most people. Most of them are Craftsman from many years ago. Never broke or bent a wrench or socket. Only the smaller size 1/4 & 3/8 rachets with the lever broke. Back then if you lost a wrench or two, it was cheaper to buy a whole set of 8 or 9 for the same price of two. I also have a mixture of other brands, but mostly Craftsman. You couldn't beat the price or replacement policy. Impact guns, you needed the receipt. I don't know how good they are now w/o Sears, but I did buy a set of Pittsburgh wrenches from 1 to 3 inches, just to have them. Harbor Freight seems to be the best deal today. So you're absolutely right .

Tekton all the way. I'm an industrial electrician and mechanic by trade and I've been using Tekton tools where applicable for a few years. I've never had a problem with them underperforming. As a matter of fact, they seem to be better made and hold up better than anything I've seen - besides a couple German brands, like Knipex, etc. And you can search up videos here on KZbin showing Tekton out-performing Snap-on on stress tests, etc. Walk-in warranty? Meh, all I have to do is email Tekton a picture and a couple days later I have a new tool (I broke a universal joint because I had a three foot cheater pipe on the breaker bar! lol). Sure there are HF stores around, but not one in most towns like Walmart. The closest to me is 60 miles. I'm not driving 60 miles for a two dollar tool/part.

I asked the snap on guy if they sold the pad and latches. He said the box is warranty and got me a new one. Just letting you know about that.

Tekton is my favorite generally speaking these days. I have that exact 1/4” set. Generally speaking? Well, I don’t buy any pliers from anybody but Channellock, and there are certain individual tools other people do better. I prefer S-K’s screwdrivers, for instance, though as proud as they are of them I only have the one I routinely put a lot of torque on. Tekton makes better than average screwdrivers though.

Each brand has that one area that they are known for and stand out over the others. All my sockets are gear wrench and tekton chrome and impact. Never had an issue. My electric tools are Milwaukee. All my ratchets and air tools are Matco and my torque wrenches are snap on tech angles. It's impossible for one single brand to make the best of everything.

I haven't tried any Tekton tools, nearest Home Depot is 25 minutes away. HOWEVER...I have a Harbor Freight 10 minutes from the house. I bought the Pittsburgh 301-pc tool set: complete 1/4", 3/8" & 1/2" socket sets, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, specialty tips - torx, hex etc. for $200. I'm a weekend mechanic, don't use everything daily, but this set works GREAT and nothing has broken or let me down in 3 years. I do oil changes, brakes, front end suspension, etc. with these sockets & ratchets. Maybe not Icon or Tekton quality, but they hold up just fine under normal use. The most bang for your $200 bucks, IMHO.

I'm an Electrician not a Mechanic but I did get some new socket sets last year, my old stuff had electrical tape residue and such, and also were spread all over and was incomplete. I bought Tekton Impact sockets, and Milwaukee Hand drives, I probably would have bought all Tekton, bought the Milwaukee stuff was a walk in and buy at the Home Depot, and the way the way the warranty seems to work, "take a picture, and send", however I haven't warrantied any of it yet, seems fabulous.

Thats also without any promos. The individual metric set went from $200 to $240. Update, one year later: still like tekton because they’re a great deal but I agree snap on tools are tougher especially they’re ratchets and sockets. I’ve broken my 1/2” tekton 24” ratchet and some of my 1/2” tekton impact sockets have deformed after minimal use with an impact and a wobble adapter. Some tools you need to buy the best, others you can make do with tekton probably for life.

For an entry-level technician Tekton will win every time. I, however, spend my money on the best tools I can buy. It's all situation dependent and I've owned practically every brand imaginable US and offshore. I still own my first set of neon colored US Stanley screwdrivers I got in 1994 and used at every shop I worked at. I remember when the ecotec engines required a "special" socket to remove the canister oil filter which was only available from the dealership. I sourced one for every guy in my shop at less than a buck each at discount tool. I was just an ocb back then lmao.

I bought my cheap HF Pittsburg torque wrenches BECAUSE a guy that had a box of MAC and Snap-On tools told me they were decent wrenches. I am a HUGE fan of combination SAE/metric sets that do not skip sizes because "there's a metric (or standard) equivalent. Yes, I want both 13 and 1/2" in a "full set". Looks like Tekton does that, not sure about Icon. I also love the moulded cases - but one feature I hate in a moulded case is the sockets that snap into the "lid" part - because they always get sloppy, fall out, and end up being a trainwreck. I have both the 3/8 and 1/4 drive from Autozone (used to be another brand, now they're Duralast) and they have as perfect of organization as it gets. I modify the 3/8 case to hold a universal joint spark plug socket, and I stuff a long extension in the 1/4 drive case along the sockets - and the sockets are easy to get and put back, and they stay put. Thats the only thing I don't like about that Tekton set. I think my 3/8 set was 60 bucks or so, and the 1/4 was 30 bucks or so - so they're even more economical than the Tekton showed. They're my "grab and go" kits. The sockets are as good as any others, and the ratchets ... well, I've had good luck with most of them, but one did kind of let me down when it was pretty new - which is why I bought the 120 tooth from Advance.

Tekton doesn't charge shipping on any item no matter the minimum. You stated, "...free shipping on any orders over $50." Don't give Tekton any ideas, My Friend! I've had my Tekton 55-piece, 1/4" drive set (with the older 72 tooth ratchet) for almost four years, no bad issues ah-tall. If I remember right the price back then was only about $5 less, not bad. I'd take Tekton over ICON. I look forward to Dow's review, thanks for your generosity, Client.

Lol rite don't give Tekton ideas I'm barely about to get into Tekton. Bought the 1/2 torque wrench like it so far.

I currently use the 1/4 set and just purchased the 1/2 set and so far the have performed excellent.
