Your very blessed. I never got to do anything with my Grandfather. He was taken from us long before I started school...Anyway...I'm in the middle on my 2003 Silverado 1500. The bumper cover is not being user friendly. I'm keeping it in the house thinking it might have to be warmed up in order to stretch around the far corners of the front bumper. I also had to do a 2012 RAM...that bumper was a heavy one by yourself.

Couple words of advice, after doing this job. That first piece of plastic trim that he doesnt show you removing.... he just said pull it out.... uhm, no. If you just pull it out straight, you will break off every tab on that plastic piece that connects into the bumper. You need to put one hand up inside the bumper, feel that tab and push it up while pulling back to ensure you dont break the tabs. Next..... GET AN ELECTRIC RATCHET!!! I can not stress this point enough. Im 53, finally got one 3 years ago and it is the single best investment in a tool of my lifetime. All that fidgeting you see with a ratchet in this video disappears with an electric ratchet. Spend the 30 or 40 bucks.... trust me, I promise you will be thanking me. Good video, I appreciate it.

I gotta say, Silverado's front bumper (1999 & up), is pretty flimsy. It really doesn't take much for it to get mangled or warp. Almost any Silverado that ever bumps into anything will have a bumper that is pushed up in the front and the side closer to the vehicle will be pushed down creating a gap.

great video. You commented near the beginning that you were not going to focus on any damage repair of brackets, etc, which I completely understand why. It can often cloud the base process. I too have encountered similar damage to the front of my 2003 2500HD and am curious if you had to straighten, repair, or replace any of the mounting brackets? Thank you.
@2004dsgmach12 жыл бұрын
Thank you, nope fortunately all the brackets and braces left/right lines up without tweaking. If the left or right corner brace is bent I think it should be ok to just discard it, not worth the money or time to buy new/rebend.
@danburns30972 жыл бұрын
@@2004dsgmach1 thanks very much. I'm tempted to just buy all new bracing but thank you for the great video and awesome information
@wookieelover14 жыл бұрын
For me, it was far easier to leave all the brackets on the bumper and take it off as one unit. That includes the curved side ones. Instead of the one bolt on the bumper bracket, i took off the two where the bracket meets the vehicle. When you level the bumper, you will need to loosen them and adjust them anyway. Also while tightening them, i placed a 1/2" piece of wood as a spacer to ensure that the gap was exactly the same on both sides. If all you need to do is fix the sagging you just need to loosen the bolts on the curved brackets and maybe the others a turn or two, then reset and re-tighten. All in all though, thank you for the video. It helped me twice.

I feel the same way about a finished surface on Concrete. But I am not to judge as I have made many mistakes along my Vehicular career. Just a note and not to be intrusive but replacing to Plastic POS fasteners and replace with Bolts and nylon Nuts. It would seem alot easier than those nylon things that you need a special tool to remove the pin and then damage the rest just to get it out. Just an observation and by no means a way of you having to do it any other way than yours.

Simon Huerta, 1999-2002 Silverado are the same front end. 2003-2007(classic) are a different front end. Therefore you cannot fit an 03 bumper on a 2000. Or vice versa 2000 on an 03.
