I followed this instructional on my 2002 Chevy Silverado and everything was going great until I tried to pull the bumper off. It appears that those 2 supporting brackets on the outside of the bumper do not clear the bed of the truck because they are angled. It looks close to impossible to remove these brackets becasue the bolts are rusted on and it is a tight space to get any wrench in there? What am I missing here? Thanks!

Great how-to video. Discovered my rear bumper was out of balance just enough to prevent a trailer hitch install where two mounting bolts connected to the bumper. A quick adjustment via the 15 mm bolts and the job was finished in to time. Thanks.

I just ordered one came today replacing tomorrow, came with new pads, wires, light mounts, all new brackets, and new cross bar if that's what it's called the rusty part under the middle pad in the video. All for 130ish bucks and was free shipping off Amazon, I am very pleased with the quality.

My rear bumper (2001 silverado 1500) had additional bracing that would not allow it to slide out after the bolts shown in this video were removed, bummed me out haha. It was loose after removing the shown bolts, but the bracing simply would not squeeze out between the body and chassis. There were not in friendly spots to work on either. Anyways, thanks for the video, gave me the motivation to remove and repaint my bumpers.

@MrStoneman1394 There should be a couple of bolts that hold it into place on the backside of the bumper. It would help if you had a friend hold the bumper up as you loosen the bolts. Hope this helps you out.

Hi, Mike. The hose part of an automatic transmission cooler line on my 1998 1500 Dodge Ram has been sweating oily residue recently, and I'm feeling inclined to change out the rubber part of the line before it suddenly fails. It's a short two foot section of rubber line that ties into the cooler. Looking at the connections, I'm not sure how it comes apart, or what I ask for at a parts store. If you have the chance I would appreciate a video showing how those lines come apart. Thanks. Dave

Was just working on this and I think there's a step missed right before you pull off the bumper. There's 4 arms holding the bumper, but you only show 2 when you take it off. Had a hard time taking that thing off lol. All in all, Thanks for the great video! :)

yeah those rusted bolts can be a pain, i know i'm from canada. i've done a few of these bumpers, always run into a problem somewhere. especially if something is bent, which for some reason is usually the case. something i found, the brackets off the HD models for 00-06 are different than the 1/2ton models, must be the frame that determines it. bumper is the same though.

@jwernrvtcvn HI, I currently do not have the vehicle here. If you go to the parts counter at the dealership they can usually pull up a picture on the computer and tell you exactly what size the factory bolts were. They may even have some for you. Hope this helps.

I missed the part about installing the two rings on the spare tire hose cover to secure it to the bumper. Sometime's it's the simple things that give a person grief.

Thanks for another very useful video. Painting the rear of the bumper looks like a good idea and I would like to do this however it might void the bumpers manufacturer's warranty on the bumper as it could be considered a "modification".

If you own a 99-02 Sierra your bumper bracket will not clear........You have to loosen 4 bed bolts so you can lift the bed a little bit.

THAT'S THE HARD WAY - you'll have a difficult time lining it back up when installing WHICH ISN'T SHOWN IN THE VIDEO - IT'S CUT OUT. If you only need to replace the chrome part or want to easily slide the truck bed off, do this: Take out only bolts that are in the bumper that are vertical (up or down), nothing horizontal. Remove plastic (why? so you can slide bolts out or keep special bolts from slipping) There are 4 bolts per side (use an air ratchet with deep socket works great) specially made for "easy removal" (good washers built in bolt one side). I'm unsure if you'll have to remove (or cut the nut off of) your trailer hitch to slip over it. Because the inner bumper is in place it should not fall and should be a breeze to re-align and re-install.

to make those pads easier to put back in place....put a drop of dish liquid or a shot of WD40 on them.if you insist on pounding them in dry... a rubber hammer saves a lot of wear and tear on your hands
