I've been watching this playlist like a Greek tragedy that I cannot look away from. Because I relate. I have a 1999 4 button 4 door Blazer that always needs love, alway in the worst of times. After swapping all the trans solenoids in the 4L60, I found out it was the pre-cat being clogged, not allowing me to shift properly. Cut it out, welded pipe in. Fast forward to off-roading in Joshua Tree a couple months later, I had the WORST sound coming from the rear. I was convinced the trans finally needed to kiss the ore of the Earth from which she came. Turned out to be fuel tank skid plate got loose and starting making music with the U-joint. Luckily I always have tools inside this magnificent POS, and after a couple hammer blows, we're on 150,000 miles. Much love and respect! I will be haunting your channel.

You got me hook, line and sinker! I knew someone out there in this world was none other than my twin. You are SO ME !!!!!! I'm 67 and still doing this stuff, AND YES , THE OCD WAY!!! That's how I go about ANY AND EVERYTHING I do!! It's a pain in the a_ _ being that way, but what can you do when your wired that way. I still tell everyone yet today, Do It Right because "ANYBODY CAN DO IT WRONG." I own (2) ZR2's , one is a daily and the other I'm pretty much restoring it and the wife drives an S10 Blazer. I pretty much attend S10 College!! LOL!!!! I REALLY enjoy your ways and how you go about things as well as your attitude towards whatever your up against. Again, you strike gold with me, REALLY ENJOYED THIS SERIES!!! Thanks for taking your time to video all of this, " YOU'RE A GOOD MAN."

I'm glad it was just something so dumb as a heat shield. Even though it was annoying to have to waste perfectly good diff fluid, it could have been a lot worse and having to need a new rear end. Now I want to replace the fluid in my Blazer. Thanks for the update!

I love my 02' Blazer ZR2 but damn, it's one thing after another. It's rust free, super clean. I bought it from an old man in Houston that kept it in garage & no one has sat in passenger & rear seats but I've dumped a lot of money into mine. It runs smoother & better than Wife's new Ford Escape XLT non-hybrid. It just seems like 1 thing after another pops up. I've had all new firing system, new Severe Duty Clutch Fan, AC Delco Gold Water pump, pulley, tensioner, belt, wheel bearing hubs (twice in 3yrs), new HD 4L60E Tranny, 4x4 parts, new headlights & tail lights & on & on. She's a beauty. Now I have a whining noise while driving, so it's drive train. Sounds like low power steering fluid whine but it's not low. Definitely coming from drive train or 1 of the wheels or it started after I installed a new Severe Duty Clutch Fan. It's loud as hell when it kicks on, Hayden Fan. Maybe it's the passenger side, I just had the drivers side huh replaced for 3rd time. Kinda sounds like the rear end though & thinking of selling mine. All stock no lift.

I just spayed the underside of my 1997 LT 4x4 blazer (3inch body lift) with ATF and Dawn. You should use a wire brush and two cans of Blaster Surface Shield on the rust every two years. I only used ATF because i had it available for free. All i had to do was replace the pan on the differential and oil. Bleeding the breaks was very easy for me after replacing the break booster. $200 labor can be avoided. I'm fixing mine up to sell or keep for off road and hauling. It has been sitting for 5 years in garage mostly and even the garage does not stop rust. Bought for $3k I think i could get $4-5k today. 140k miles. 35's and a set of more modern city diving wheels and tires. My transmission was rebuilt by previous owner. Big reason I bought it.

This reminds me; grease u-joints and flush everything. Happy the sickening sound wasn't catastrophic.

Man I watched all through your videos on this blazer in between work today. I got my 98 around the same time you got yours and went through a lot of the same repairs/issues as you (aside from the mouse poop infection). can't wait to see more of your zr2!

DUDE I had literary the exact same issue! The tab broke off the gas tank presumably when I was changing my fuel pump so I just put 2 separate wraps of the thick wire ties around the tank and shield until I drop the tank again, such a scary noise

Hey Phillips, so good news, everytime you discover something I check it on my 98 ZR2, it's more difficult to find spare parts from my country 🙂 "France" (RockAuto powa!) so happy to see that's not the differential ! A little question what's the code related to the parts that you changed ? txh and good luck !

I’m curious if your EVAP vent solenoid fixed your problem after all! In my case it din not. My next step will be the fuel tank pressure sensor and the harness underneath. My black 01 ZR2 had almost all your problems, minus the mice and the terrible rust. I did have a ABS box with all the circuits solders cracked, that needed a rebuild and the intake gasket leaking coolant. If you ever need to do it, you will have to set your CMP retard to 0 degrees for your distributor or the engine will die on you, while you are off road in Moab! 😂 Love the videos and please continue!

Good thing about these vehicles is they're cheap enough to just go out and buy another one.
