@EnthusiastsGarage6 жыл бұрын
i actually did reach out to him last year and he said- Thanks so much for the note! Sorry for the delay - been kind of swamped with offers and a lot of traveling, and I really appreciate yours!!! I’m not sure when I’ll be looking for a Cobra R like yours, but I’ve added you to my giant spreadsheet of people with cool cars for when I am… in which case, I’ll be in touch. I really appreciate you reaching out (and I’m glad you’re relatively close by!). Thanks again for the offer -- hopefully we’ll be in touch soon! Doug this was when he lived in philly, but i hope he reaches out to me. if more people request my car to him either through email or comments, hopefully that will motivate him to review it.

I pulled up next to one the other day the same model as in the video. It sounded beasty & it walked off from the traffic light so easily with barely any throttle. I realized that stang is no joke. Mustangs are fast anyway. People talk shit about mustangs but 5.0's & Cobra mustangs will leave you in the dust.

When Car & Drive road-tested the 2003-2004 Cobras for the first time, they were the fastest cars priced under $30K ever tested by that publication. Truly a pioneering vehicle...

@@GeorgiaBoy1961 when did they first test them, because every 03 cobra I ever saw including the one I owned for 4 years was $34,000+ new.

@@jrvbamafan1 - Hi Jason, I'd like to answer your question, but I don't have the publication in question - an auto magazine from almost twenty years ago - so no dice, sorry about that. I was around then and actually test drove a 2003 Cobra. Dealers were getting pretty good markups on them - so maybe the guy who wrote that article exaggerated a bit. Or didn't include taxes, fees, dealer mark-ups, and so on.

These cobras torched the LS1 Camaro's and WS6 trans ams of the day.. those heads were way ahead of their time, great power and torque.. 5.4 vs 5.7, way more power.. imagine if the terminators had the 5.4 block and heads, they would have been 500 hp instead of 390hp.. damn..

@stephenantonio37136 жыл бұрын
@@aidentorgerson3010 only 200 were made, true. My point was the motor, remember Camaros and TAs used the Corvette motor. Gt mustang's used the crown vic and f150 motor, so you are right, no comparison performance wise. But the mustang out sold the gm ponies 3 to 1. Another point to make is the exotic American motors of that year: viper gts 450 hp, Z06 385 hp, vette 345 hp-- so the little 5.4 stacks up against the big dogs..

For the price it cost. You could modify a ws6 so it could blow the doors of the R easy. I didn't realize the extent of the track-focused upgrades on the car, making it a totally different animal from the following 03-04 cobras. Hearing you list out the differences shows they were catering to a specific crowd that was much smaller in those days than it is now. The complete package you get for the value proposition it was still holds up today. What I feel sets it apart are what I consider the big 3: the cooling system upgrades including the oil cooler, power steering cooler and increased oil capacity, the brake upgrade to fixed calipers and the cooling ducts, and finally the upgraded chassis components as well as the stiffening that assuredly went along with them. Don't worry, some people do understand what you are trying to get across, especially those who have dealt with the issues most street cars face during extended track use. Very good explanation and what a gorgeous example of a Cobra R. Looks brand new.

Why do people think a 5.4 liter V8 is huge? In the first muscle car era in the U.S. around the 70's there were many cars using 8.0 liter V8's. Sure in our current day that is very rare except in towing vehicles. But I hardly think a 5.4 is massive. Think about the fact that a Lamborghini Gallardo uses a 5.2 V10 and that is considered a smaller V10, they did this so they could have a square or over square engine. Promotes free revving and higher redline. Also the F250 V10 (same truck that had the 5.4 V8 available in it, aside from it's younger brother F150) was a 6.8 liter V10. Then there is the 5th Gen Camaro Z28 which used a 7.0 liter V8 good for 505 NA HP, which is also a smaller physical engine than the Ford 5.4 Liter 4 cam engine. So it's by no means a massive engine. It is however big on the outside and takes up a hell of a foot print. This makes it not so great for swaps where as the 7.0 V8 Chevy LS7 would fit anywhere the 4.8 V8 Chevy LY2 and L20 (same engines one with Variable Valve Timing, one without it) both would fit in the same engine bay as the LS7 being basically the same size on the outside since they use the same general block design and castings and are all three noticebly smaller on the outside than this Ford Design. Just wanted to throw out some info about engine sizing since I did not think a 5.4 was considered huge. We are in an age where lots of cars are downsizing engines, but there was a time when engines were almost all 3.0 liters and above and we still have many Six cylinder cars that are in the 4.3 liter and 4.0 liter range barely smaller than the Mustangs base 4.6 V8 from this gen.
