Hang on. The switch was playing up(fan not working on settings) and changing out thre vaccum switch fixes this? I have similar prob, will not select speeds but when i put pressure on the fan switch it works until pressure is removed.......is this still a vaccum issue....

Great video as usual. I had to change out the wire end controlling speed as it started to melt, did some research and found out it is a common problem for TJ's. It ended up being the blower fan was pulling too much of a load causing the wire end and switch to cook. All good for now.
@Poweraddicts7 жыл бұрын
Glad you like the video! A friend of mine had something similar happen after changing head light bulbs. He installed high wattage halogens, they demanded so much power it melted the plastic ends where it plugs onto the bulb. We have installed 3 of those modules in the TJ presented in this video. Now it makes me wonder if the fan is pulling too many amps burning up the speed control switch. Its the speed control part that keeps going out. Hmmm .. you got me thinking on this one. Gonna have to talk to him about this next time I see him. Thanks for checking out the videos! Thanks for giving me food for thought about his reoccurring issue. It didn't cross my mind about the fan pulling too many amps. I just figured cheap switches in the controls. Have a great day!!

@vinces.2862 Жыл бұрын
Very Good. Maybe you can answer this. 2000 jeep TJ. My first 3 speeds on the fan switch work. My high speed is intermittent. Don't know if the resistor pack handles the high speed or not. Had it blowing today. 80 degrees outside on high fan and all of a sudden the blower dropped to low in the high speed setting, moved the selector to the 3rd position, one lower than high, and that speed worked, as well as the lower speeds. As I said it's intermittent. Any ideas. Vince. ( Love your Vid's)

I'm about to recharge my ac with AC Pro. But one thing I am trying to find out is why the hvac knob on the right of this panel is running hot, the other 2 are cool, no issues. Of note, I have replaced the old stock plastic with billet steel knobs. I looked at it and so did a local shop I trust in the area. And we both saw no melting of the switch or anything else. It's been a head scratcher for months. What worries me after I recharge the system with freon, I have a long drive ahead of me that requires air conditioning in this summer heat, and this knob is going to be getting hot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It is easy to get to and seems like plenty of room so I am game. I will try it. any url(s) are gratefully received for the added relay. Thanks

Quick question about a 2001 TJ. Seems like I am having the same issue. Fan switch doesn't work. I can hear the compressor kick on when I switch it to A/C but I only get the faintest of cold air on 3rd fan setting and only if you put your hand right on the vent can you feel it blowing. Not sure how to diagnose what the issue is and I don't want to waste anymore money on parts if I can get by without it but really want this air and heat working. Gets cold in N Ga. Thanks for any advice you can offer!

mine is an 06 wrangler tj and the AC works but it blows full power to the vent that hits your feet while the vents that hit your face only a tiny bit of air comes out? Dont know why its only blowing to the vents where the feet are at.
@OhkiiDohkiiFFXIV8 жыл бұрын
Would this be the next logical step to fixing my own fan speed? I've replaced the resistor yesterday and it didn't fix it. Instead of my TJ's fan speed in the 1-2-3-4 pattern, it's 4-2-3-4. Resistor didn't fix it like I thought
@Poweraddicts8 жыл бұрын
Thats what I would do next. Typically with the TJs its this speed control we changed out in this video. The YJs it usually the resister.

There are vacuum lines and vacuum actuators that control all much of the temp settings and air blending. Possible you have a vacuum line off, leaking, losing vacuum in the switch or actuators. That can cause what you are describing. Good luck and thanks for checking out the video! Have a great day!

My fan works but I can not get it to change off of my defroster setting.. could this be my problem ??
@dgomme5 жыл бұрын
Most likely it's a vacuum leak for that specific problem. There's a thin black hose that runs to a small air tank inside the body panel behind the front passenger wheel well, and the hose commonly splits right at the barb for the tank. The connection is right under the battery, so you can reach it from underneath the Jeep or remove the battery and battery tray and get to it that way. If the line's split, I've just patched it with a few wraps of electric tape and called it good, or you can replace that length of hose.
@paguategirl5 жыл бұрын
I have the same problem, stuck on defrost and knob spins freely, so I can not change direction of airflow. I’ll be looking for that thin black hose.
@michaelkearns51565 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same problem. Air conditioning unit seems to be functioning properly, but it will not blow any air out of the vents. No matter what the dial setting is, it will only blow air out the top/defrost vents by the front windshield. The interior of the vehicle will not cool down as it should, and the front windshield keeps fogging up with condensation.

@comoxvalleyoffroad5696 Жыл бұрын
Probably no point posting this, as it's gonna be buried. If you need this switch panel, buy the RIGHT hand drive version. It's usually 1/2 the price. The only difference is the length of the vac. lines - just use your old set. ;) .... or use the entire switch ( may leak, depending on wear)
@Poweraddicts Жыл бұрын
Yea, comments do get buried ... but ... I can tell you that people do read down through the comments for other peoples experience in whatever the topic of the video. So your comment can still help those who read into them. That is interesting about the right hand drive. My dads needs replaced in his 2006 TJ. I'll look into that. Thank you for leaving a great tip!
@comoxvalleyoffroad5696 Жыл бұрын
I replaced it about three years ago. Both left and right hand drive were listed on rock auto at the time. But the right hand drive is half the price. I can’t quite remember, but I may have had to replace the entire vacuum switch. It was leaking or wouldn’t fit correctly with the new panel.
