1:01:12 crazy that many fans were in the stands for single car runs. Goes to show the state of the sport during this era

So true! I started watching races in the 70's. We watched all forms of the sport from the local short tracks to the speedways and road courses. Sprint cars, bomber stocks, figure 8's, demolition derby's, USAC Indy cars, NASCAR modifieds, USAC stock cars, Winston Cup NHRA, SCCA, IMSA, I''ve been to the tracks to watch them in person and sometimes participate. We were fans of racing. We endured hours of rain delays and sunburned afternoons. We had to dig through the back pages of the sports section just to find a short newspaper article between horse racing and college baseball. Today it seems the drivers and fans are polarized within segments of the sport. Fans of one form of racing are constantly trash talking other forms of racing. When I was growing up you were just happy to meet and talk to another racing fan in a "stick and ball sport" world. I've had friends and family members who became fans with me over the years and moved on to other interests. I've seen some of the greats on their best and worst days. I've seen horrible crashes and fatalities and witnessed incredible comebacks and legendary drives. I've endured it all. I don't watch every event with the same level of interest that I used to, but I'm looking forward to another season of racing and seeing who and what develops into the years great stories.

@@HODIUSDUDE It's not just that. There's a huge rift, at least in my mind, between the drivers and the fans. I feel the drivers view us now as irritants to be swatted aside, with no consideration for who pays their bills (besides their corporate sponsors and overly-wealthy car owners).

Gotta love the scream of the engines during the "breaks". Hardly any commentary. Can really hear those cars.

Benson was always a cool guy. Wish he would have had more success in his cup career, but he was a fine stock car driver. Just to hit that level is impressive, and he did a little more than that.

3:09:00 Here's my obligatory "Powerpuff Girls sponsored Nascar" post. Shame this was CN's last ever sponsor deal with stock car...and it wasn't even on TV, but at least this raw feed helps.

And that car looked amazing... and it's funny that Buttercup is on the hood, she's gonna try to knock a bumper out at 200 mph... 😅
