If it's anything like my 1999 Integra, the advantages of buying an automatic car is that it avoided a decade of inexpericed teenage ricers. I still have my OEM air box, for example, which is better made and with a larger filter than any cheap aftermarket option I have seen. Yes, the downside is its still an automatic with softer acceleration.

@crgarage85077 жыл бұрын
yeah those are your synchros... you could rebuild the transmission, but that is a very tough project
@dannyc86177 жыл бұрын
Don't know if you have an aftermarket clutch, but maybe you can try using a clutch push rod extender from a company called speed source. They cost less than $30, and are pretty easy to install, just replaces the stock one between the slave cylinder and the fork. For whatever reason aftermarket clutches do not always fully disengage, causing a grind between the lower gears especially at high rpm. I installed one on my Vibe GT and it eliminated the problem. It could be bad synchros, but it is worth a try. There is a video on youtube of this being done on a Corolla XRS to give you some idea of what you are looking at, I think the guys channel is called "all from a phone", hope this helps.

C&R Garage Would you recommend the Celica as a good first car? What's the intro song? Thx
@crgarage85077 жыл бұрын
I would recommend the celica GT-S as a first car simply due to the amazing reliability of the 2zz and the super fun factor of lift, make sure you get a 00-02 since those have the higher rev limit. do not get the GT since it was know for oil burning problems after 100k miles. 03 GTs did fix the issues but they can be hard to come by at a decent price.
@saint_zero7 жыл бұрын
C&R Garage Awesome! Thanks! Been deciding hard on a first car. Saw a Bugeye for around 5k which wasn't a bad deal but the exterior look like it hasn't been kept in good condition and I can only imagine it's interior and engine, civics are good but I want something with a more aggressive look, something more appealing. There was also an eclipse gts but I'm not sure on the reliability of those. Thanks for the info man! This car been growing on my mind for a few.

CarFax's are almost useless.. Like your car was obviously in an accident prior which required a replacement and paint job, but was not reported. I've bought two or three and vehicles went like 30-60,000mi without having anything reported & I doubt any work was DIY. The one was titled to two different individuals(three owners) in a short period of time & there's nothing reported besides vehicle purchased, sold & not even an odometer report was done for either. Not blaming CarFax but you're also taking risk buying one for a vehicle when CarFax wants nearly $40 for just one by itself. Not saying don't get a CarFax for everything just be sure that's the vehicle you want before you possibly waste money on a CarFax that could be void of valuable information.

I would say 2000 and newer Celica GTS, I own a 1991 Gen 5 Celica GTS owned from brand new with no problems and it is almost 30 years old. Only really pushed it when I was younger and the car was new. Doesn't win a lot of races, but fun as shit to drive anyways.
@miguelsalami4 жыл бұрын
These cars don't hold a candle to my 1983 Supra but since it's gone & the Supras worth more now then it was brand new & the Celicas are still cheap & plentiful I thought I would buy one of these cars. Not necessarily a GTS but a one owner well maintained Celica. Why the he'll did Toyota stop making these cars & why did they have Yamaha Engines in them? Toyota should have made the Celica RWD with a 2.7L in the GT & 4.3L V6 engine for the GTS would have been a much better choice of engines both with almost identical horsepower yet much more robust compared to the Yamaha.
