Same for me as well we had two of those ,a 1.4 mpi which was a bit over used for by previous owner,the second which wasn't that fast but very reliable engine the 1.0 mpi and was well serviced. Wish i had one like those as my first car.

I think this particular one don't have air conditioning. 1.4 16V got possibility to get it, but only in highline version if I can remember.

What did you think about the brakes ? My friends when they got to drive my own, got caught by the distinct brakes - touch the brakes a little and it brakes. Soft left feet is necessary. They were accustomed to a little more play.

It depends on you. What requirements you have? This kind of engine is much louder than petrol one. Especially since the soundproofing is mediocre in this model ( I got petrol one with LPG, can be loud on high engine speed). Also vibrations can be the problem and low culture of work in engine 1.4 TDI. But if you are calm driver and you are into eco-driving this type of engine can use less than 5L per 100km. So it is better usage of fuel that in petrol one (about 7L per 100km). If you would go to service regularly... Why not? Personally I would not buy this car in TDI version to be honest, but you must choose what is the best for you! I got mine car in 2018 ( VW Polo III 1.4 2000) and I am really happy about it!
