FYI one other LEGAL alternative is that you can get a cluster reset to 0 IF you put a label on the driver's side door jamb indicating the original mileage AND indicating cluster was replaced or repaired. This is legal as long as an effort was made to document the car's actual mileage. I might also add that KZbinr jeffescortlx does cluster repairs all the time and he has an absolute gift with a soldering iron. I would definitely let him take a crack at that "cat's" cluster.

Liked it. But the biggest disappointment was the fact that when the XJ8/R generation changed to the X350, leaving the top speed for U.S. versions of it at about 150 mph as for the previous X308 XJ8s was 110% out of the question as they became electronically controlled to a measly 121 mph. Same was done to the non-supercharged S-Types. And it got even worse in 2006 when the XJR also got restricted to the same 121 mph, confirmed in another You Tube video at the proving grounds. I don't care what anyone says, there's no reason for that. It is not a Lincoln Town Car nor a Cadillac. The worst part of that is that there would never be any getting rid of such speed restrictions to unlock the awesome Jag's potential. But there will always be such support for any German or Japanese car even if it's as old as pre-2000. So, I think my next Jag will either be an S-Type R w/ 400+ horsepower or just a pre-2003 base S-Type 0-60 in 8 flat but was still able to do 140 in U.S. specs.

Cool car Wizard i love Jags except for the the newer F Pace it looks like a Porsche and Maserati had a kid together it just doesn't stand out to me when i think of jags but thats my opinion. I personally again this is my opinion prefer the vintage ones like Hoovies E type because they get meaner as they get older. Speaking of that car that seal where they leak from thats normal just the nature of the beast my XK140 leaks like that i just throw cat litter on top of a piece of cardboard and slide it under the car. Also they're supposed to take a lot of oil not because of the size of the pan because they raced some of them along with mine. It still blows my mind how much oil my XK140 takes 14Q. And speaking of my 140 heres an example on why i prefer the vintage ones. I have a 1956 XK140 roadster 4 speed manual all original untouched car millage, paint, numbers matching everything original, it even came with the original 50s toolkit in the trunk when we bought it in 2002. More on that in a bit. As old as it is it still preforms great and still has all of its 210 horses and even gets 23mpg on the highway and 18 in city. Its no trailer or garage princess just a great driver. I love that car because of the sentimental value it has for me it was my first Jag an also my first collector car. It was this car i learned how 2 wrench on cars at 9 years old in 2002 after my dad bought it off of a used car lot and i still have it to this day. I think it was listed for 25k for it. But i rode in my friends 2005 1/3 XKR black cat edition and that was a blast. If i could find one of that car would it would parked next to my XK140

To answer your question about the odometer adjustment, it can be legally done IF AND ONLY IF you can get a certified odometer statement from your local DMV. I don't know what the procedure for that is in Kansas but if you are able to get the correct mileage for the vehicle and you are absolutely certain that you can do that then it can be done. I remember Volvo actually had a genius way of addressing this issue back in the day, and what they did was they had something like an OBD I system under the hood that would blink to tell you exactly how many miles are on the car in the event that your odometer stopped working. My friend Robert Spinner (aka. RobertDIY on KZbin) has a video on this procedure. Then you would have to provide the odometer repair shop with a certified odometer statement from the DMV indicating the correct mileage for the vehicle in question. Not sure if Jaguar has anything similar to this in their cars, but that’s the route you would need to go if you wanted to address this issue in a legal manner. Hope this helps!

The odometer has to be kept somewhere, clusters probably last longer than ECUs, and the day of mechanical clusters that die with the car is over. You get a car over 15 years old with high tech cluster you should also look at the car and get an independent assessment of milage. The xkr fuel pumps always seem to fail in pairs. The reason why is the car will run fine on one pump without codes or any symptoms. If one fuel pump fails the other will fuel the car just fine. One pump could fail and you could drive for 5 years on the other pump and you would never know. When the second pump fails is when you finally figure out something is wrong, which is why BOTH pumps are always bad when they come in the shop.

Modern Porsche's [and probably other cars too] have a readout of the number of hours that the engine has operated. From this the mileage of the car can be estimated, regardless of what the odometer says. That's how you can tell if there has been tampering. Local mechanics can look at the hours and correlate the mileage. Great video!
@OMGWTFLOLSMH2 жыл бұрын
Not sure how that helps. If a car is city driven its entire life as opposed to highway driven, or vice versa, the hours and mileage would be vastly different.
@xavier.c3592 жыл бұрын

@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Of course. That's why I added the part about local mechanics. They can get an idea of the mileage based upon local conditions and a statement from the previous owner as to where they drove.

lol they are not that expensive to maintain, just do preventive work (cooling system, tensioners, on non supercharged cars, A drum), the parts are not unreasonable, they are more expensive than a toyota yes but they break down very rarely if preventative work done. almost always just regular maintenance

I had an XKR Convertible 2001 for 19 years. Had terrible issues for about 10 years until the second fuel pump went and it finally dawned on the work shops that the fuel pumps were the cause of all my problems! Why is this not known (or ignored) by regular Jaguar dealers/work shops?

As an Englishman I always have a little chuckle to myself when an American pronounces it 'JagWAR' when we pronounce it as 'Jag-YOU-ARE' That cluster reminded me of my old 1996 Range Rover I had and Jaguar Land Rover were owned by Bavarian Murder Weapons at the time so the electronics would be very similar. The ECU/BECM were notorious for glitches, even the mobile, sorry, 'cellphone' antennas in petrol forecourts priceboards were known to 'annoy' the ECU and interfere with the immobiliser amongst other issues. My mechanic said that even with the key not in the car, the mobile (cell) antennas would trick the ECU to cycle through its start-up sequence continually until eventually draining the battery.THAT would then present the problem of the ECU not recognising the car key so I carried a piece of paper in my wallet with the Emergency Key Access Code as well as the code for the radio and any other stuff. I eventually got the ECU reprogrammed to think it was actually in Canada not England which cured a lot of the problems I had. Sorry my reply is a year late ;-) but I hope you managed to get it sorted as its a very fine car!

If you can prove the mileage on the vehicle, you can set the mileage. You just can’t go under the actual mileage. Another part of the law states “with intent to fraud” . You do have to be careful not to go under the last registered mileage. My newest car doesn’t store the mileage in the cluster, it’s in the ECU, so I don’t need to set mileage.

@mikojarvinen62732 жыл бұрын
The US laws seem to be very strict about odometer readings. I once had to change a cluster for a 1998 Cadillac Seville STS in Finland. I asked around if it would be possible to get the original reading and found several shops willing to do it if I just proved it was the original odometer reading. Later I also found out that it isn’t illegal to change to odometer reading. You can get any odometer reading for 100€ from shady shop. However if you purposely roll back the odometer to get financial benefit in a car sale it’s a mild fraud. It’s estimated that a significant amount of imported cars have odometer rolled back. Unlike original Finnish cars, they don’t have history records of odometer readings in yearly inspections. The best indication is usually missing service records.
@kemy53682 жыл бұрын
wait... why is it illegal to even touch the mileage on the odomoete? It is illegal to change the odometer on a car in France to pass it off as something it's not (mostly reducing the mileage), but it's not illegal to adjust a replacement odometer to the correct mileage of the car. if you get an odometer with a different mileage it is legal to adjust it to the correct mileage of the vehicle, this why this feature exist in the first place.
