I'm curious how deep a cut this was and with what bit.

4 mm deep, so we used 3 passes to cut all the way through, and a single flute 1/4 in bit

Is it possible to upgrade an original Maslow to the Maslow 4?

Unfortunately not, it's a completely new design and the technology has improved a lot in the last ten years so it has no parts in common with the original
