lost all fluid pressure, no vehicle movement. Purchased this 2001 Taurus as is tranny inoperative. I pulled it and it sit's on my garage floor. I have started to work on it, figured I had nothing to lose, the car cost me $10.00, lmao... Your video has given me enough information to give it a try. The washer you're speaking of running through the pump shaft into the torque converter is not the issue and has never been, the problem is the splines on the torque converter are aluminum and the pump shaft is hardened steel and the pump shaft just tears apart the aluminum splines in the torque converter which will ruin the seal but the main reason is the torque converters have aluminum splines, it is the single most problem with the Taurus transmissions, the other problem is nobody ever changes their transmission fluid.

Thank you for your transaxle removal video. I now have a better idea what lowering the subframe and removing the transaxle entails. I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar with a CD4E tranaxle and I have to remove the transaxle to replace the torque converter which most like has a bushing wear/clearance issue leading to intermittent converter clutch issues. I will make sure to source a quality converter that attention to the bushing on the converter has been given care. Thank again for this video as it is given more and more confidence to try to attempt this task.

@@FixingWithPassion I'm working on a 2007 taurus same tranny, the forward drive gears do not work as someone else mentioned untill I give it a little gas it will catch the gear but otherwise no. Reverse does still work. I drained and changed the fluid and filter but to no avail. Do you think red devil additive might help or is it too far gone?

I have the AXOD transmission its really similar to the AX4N almost identical when I dropped the pan I found chunks of a bearing on the magnet I took them to a transmission shop they said it was a spider bearing for the differential the transmission still works it just clunks when it engages from a stop where would that bearing be is that the one at the end that you left in the case of yours behind the gears ?

my taurus won't go over 25 mph, It's not giving any kind of code. once it hits 25 it acts like I threw it in neutral. and the rpm sky rocket once the rpm drop and the speed gets down to about 18mph it shifts hard into first. is that what yours was doing?

pikey life I bought a 99 Taurus for $400. because the seller THOUGHT it needed a trans rebuild. I replaced the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) for $35.00 and that fixed the problem. 3L Vulcan engine, don't remember if it was the 17 or 19 bolt transmisson. AMOCO Transmission wanted $1500. to rebuild trans.
@psyghtseer4 жыл бұрын
hey nathan. i think my problem is the last thing you pull out which is at 22:00. the car kind of grinds when you hit the gas too hard (or not hard enough) there is about 2-3 degrees of play in the trans and i can audibly hear what sounds like clunking metal from the end of the axle where it goes in at the passenger side when i turn those 2-3 degrees of play. do you think i could have stripped on of the "drive gears" out?

Very helpful video. I need your opinion with my transmission, I think the front transmission seal is broken because I was driving on the highway and all the sudden i started to to see smoke behind my car and underneath the car. I stopped the car and my transmission was leaking fluid from the junction of thr transmission and the engine Someone told me that it could be the front seal of my transmission, others been telling me that my transmission is fried because when the tow truck driver took it to my house, i wanted to pull it up but it didn't move, the transmission was slipping but so I stopped the engine and my friend told me that i probably burn the clutches. I need your opinion on this. Thank You By the way it's a 1997 ford taurus

My 97 Taurus 3.0 dohc with the ax4n started slipping under load. Then I began noticing a whining sound that would come and go upon shifting. A few days later it clunked coming to a stop light and the slipping became much worse and the whining sound got louder. I barely got it home. I parked it in my driveway and a few days later went out to start it and the engine would barely even rotate. 113,000 original miles clean California granny car. Sorry for the novel but if you could offer any insight I would very much appreciate it.

Hi,could you offer me advice on a 2002 taurus shifts 1-2 fine 2-3 3 is like neutral if pull back to 2 and speed up to or over about 40 mph then shift to O/D will relax in O/D and drive fine till stop.Codes are PO733 Gear 3 incorrect ration,P1783 Temp over condition and P0741Torque Converter Clutch stuck off.I have no experience with trans.Thinking about changing the three shift solenoids and the TCC what do you think? Thanks

make sure your shift cable isn't stretched > when you start out shift to 1 then back to od see if that changes your shifting.

Thanks for the reply,changed filter and 6-7 of fluid a couple weeks ago,shifted into 3 (drive) for a while where as 3 was like neutral before.Think TCC? or one of the shift solenoids? can possibly access from side.Now back to no 3(drive)Have to pull back to 2 and speed up over 40 then go into O/D let off gas pedal
