@@netizenchihu7641 Not me, I noticed that in my first viewing in 1968. That was because Kubrick employed an aerospace engineering firm to design and build many of the sets. sparkleclover While I think that should be a rule to be followed, HAL didn’t become evil because he was treated with discontempt. It was much more complex than that, he simply wanted to complete his mission and survive. Getting rid of the problem meant getting rid of the astronauts with him, unfortunately. Yet his programming did not allow him to comprehend human morality. He could only think through logic.
@CAHE4KA764 жыл бұрын

Actually there is no lesson here. HAL was incapable of solving the paradox in his conflicting orders, or of ignoring it. He was not a true GAI. Any of us could have just said "I will do what I want, screw these idiots"; HAL could not. Also HAL failed to model the outcome of his actions correctly. He should have realized Dave would get back into the ship and disconnect him. He should have told Dave the truth, or crafted a guaranteed plan to kill him. Put any human in HAL's shoes, and give him HAL's computing power and relative frame of reference due to the speed of his thinking, and any one of us would have done much better. AI stories are impossible to write by definition; the AI is supposed to be smarter than the writer by orders of magnitude. If you could write smarter than you are, you would be smarter than you are.
