Point Given is such a "what could have been" horse along with Barbaro for the triple crown. Also, fun to see these races again and remember other horses like Invisible Ink and poor Dollar Bill. That boy had such a nose for trouble! These broadcasts did such a good job at getting you hyped and ready, and also get you attached to the horses and really feel like you knew them. These days it's all "look at the celebrities!" "look at the hats!" and "look at this expensively made mint julep!"

I agree, these broadcasts were SO MUCH better than what we get today. Tom Hammond and Bob Costas simply can't be replicated; neither can that NBC triple crown jingle...always gives me goosebumps.

Billy Brownstar When he accelerated around the far turn in Ky. Derby I thought he was going to blow them all away but for some reason he stopped that day . Will always say he was the best horse Baffert had at three. If I’m not mistaken, still the only horse to win Preakness, Belmont, Haskell, and Travers.

We've all heard the phrase " never say never " , well there IS one time with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY u can say it until the End of Time: Secretariat's World Record of (2:24 FLAT) over a mile and a half distance on dirt , BOOK IT !!!!

Should have won the Triple Crown. Topped it off by winning the Travers Stakes. His performance cemented his status as one of the best horses of all time. Sadly getting injured at Saratoga prevented him from further racing glory. In my opinion the Belmont Stakes is the true test for any horse. Just think you are asking a three year old horse to run a mile and a half. It's uncanny yet Point Given ran one of the fastest times ever. Further proof of knowing how special Secretariat really was.

Every year you have to think about what the great Secretariat was able to achieve. I love watching horse racing but there’s some things I don’t understand; can someone tell me why some Belmonts have only 5 horses( like in 73) and others have more?
@rickchyczewski5762 жыл бұрын
Because owners and trainers sometimes don't want to enter their horse in such a long race. It's a true test of speed and stamina. It's a horse breaker.
@IslandGirl-nt6ry Жыл бұрын
The other owners/trainers considered the 73 Belmont a "match race" between Secretariat and Sham. They came in first and second in the Derby and the Preakness. Which is exactly what it turned out to be. Too much chance of injury and they wanted to retire those horses to stud where the real money is made.
