In this video, I show a trick on how to release the ignition coils on a Ford Duratec V6 with the plastic valve covers, without breaking anything.

This is what KZbin is all about! Shop tried to take my P0302 code and get me to pay for 6 new coils and spark plugs (even though the current ones were only 13000 miles old) plus a new engine cover because they figured they'd cut through it trying to get the stuck bolt out. Didn't have as easy a time getting the bolt out with the pliers, but Home Depot tool rental used their vice grip clamp for me to get it out at no cost. You saved me over $800 and gave me confidence in the process, can't thank you enough!

Thanks for this video. I had this problem with a 07 JGC. Thanks to you, I’m going back in there and replacing the ignition coil. I think I may I have damaged it. I was showing a P0301. For a day it was fine, now I can feel a little miss, but I think I may have damaged the coil.

Thank you this method just worked for me just now while installing a new coil pack.I had to use a long flathead screw driver and hammer to chisel the screw and brass retainer off the old single coil and work the screw out of the brass retainer by twisting back and forth with two adjustable pliers.I got the brass retainer off I reinstalled it back on the intake manifold without glue in case I need to pull it out again and got the same screw in it on my new coil pack! it's good as new and fitted in perfectly tight...

This happened to my 2015 F150 Ecoboost. The engine idle was a little off, and the truck just wasn't running as usual. I went under the hood to check out the coils and spark plugs, and cylinder one coilpack was sitting about 3/8" higher than the others. I also used JB Weld to reseat the insert and hand tightened it. I believe it will hold.
@Projectsalvo1842 жыл бұрын
Do you know what part number the bolt that holds the boots in is? Much appreciated in advance.
@AKJeeper2 жыл бұрын
I believe the Ford part number for the 2001-2007 V6 Escape is W707156S437. I'm pretty sure it's just a flanged M5x25 bolt that you can get at most hardware stores.

What about the epoxy glue? Does it withstand the engine temperature?

Thanks for this! I'm having a bit of a different issue (but related) and was wondering if you had any advice. I was changing my spark plugs and the bolt that fastens the coil pack snapped while tightening it back in. I tried to remove it with a bolt extractor but it just made things worse and I believe the brass insert is now damaged as well. Are you aware of a method to remove the brass insert and replace it with a new one without having the head of the bolt to pull on to? And without having to replace the whole valve cover? Thanks again and have a wonderful day
@AKJeeper3 жыл бұрын
That is a tricky one. I would attempt to drill into the broken bolt, and maybe try to tap the hole with new threads of a smaller diameter so that I could put a new (but smaller) bolt in its place. Then either fasten the coil with the new bolt and a washer, or use the new bolt to try to pry the insert out.
@DURANGOPHX2 жыл бұрын
Use a torch to loosen the brass insert gently pull than if brass insert is reusable than heat up the brass insert with a new screw in it and hold in hole so with heat it can set itself or use epoxy to hold brass insert
@mel32562 жыл бұрын
Had the exact same thing happen. I am considering sealing the coil on with adhesive abd just leaving the broken bolt in. Cant drill it out
@nadnodnadia2 жыл бұрын
@@mel3256 Sorry to hear that Mel :( It sucks so hard. I ended up getting a replacement valve cover from a pick-n-pull and replacing the whole cover. I got a mechanic to put on the replacement as I was worried that the other bolts would go on me as well.

Man this video is awesome. I was able to take mines out but the inside of the brass insert is worn out any idea where I can find these brass inserts?
@AKJeeper3 ай бұрын
You might be able to find some similar ones on Amazon, E-Z Lok inserts. You’ll have to get a different size bolt (SAE instead of metric) most likely with these inserts. I haven’t found any of the original style yet.
@securedabagesteban3 ай бұрын
@@AKJeeper yea I was just looking on Amazon typed in metric nutcert and bunch of kits come out. I got COP #3 in 2001 expy 5.4l 2valve notorious spark plug spitters. Seems this is the way to go. Question I have to ask It’s a handy down car so previous owner stripped the head off the bolt that sits the COP on the manifold same bolt your inserting in your video. Any idea what I could do? I’ve tried the pressure pliers just won’t grip to small and needle nose won’t work either. I’ve seen welders, weld a nut bring it right out but I don’t have any welding tools whatsoever.

Couldn't you open it a bit by spreading the gap in the slit and drive it back in? I always thought that is what that gap is for

@antoinewallace86982 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much but what if you damage the insert?
@AKJeeper2 жыл бұрын
You will have to get a new insert, most likely from an auto recycler. The other alternative I can think of would be to replace the valve cover. New valve covers will come with the inserts installed.
@raymondescobedo46172 жыл бұрын
Is it called inserts or whats the correct name for that part ?
@chadog900 Жыл бұрын
Nobody knows what this part is even called, Autozone, Home Depot, and even Nissan dealer. It has no part number and is part of the valve cover. You'd have to find an insert with the same or similar metal structure that can withstand the heat of the engine as well as your local weather fluctuation so that the bolt can stay secured and removed again.

mines broke inside the hole where you tighten the bolt to hold the ignition coil in place they're telling me to buy another intake manifold but i don't want to do that unless i have to

I would get different opinions at different shops, and if you need a new intake manifold I would say just buy a used one from a junkyard

@@chadog900 ayo I swea I wanted to try that so I used my drill and spin it off....yo it just kept on spinning.......even faster 🤣 mannnn I was so mad. @chadog900 Жыл бұрын
People get lazy and use power tools to tighten everything, but climates that get cold and hot a lot is the general problem leading to this.
