2001 Ford Windstar Minivan Window Regulator Replacement

Our window wouldn't roll down so I ordered a new regulator, pop rivet gun, and hardware. I then recorded an absurdly long video on replacing the window regulator. Sadly, some of the hardest parts got cut because my phone ran out of space and I didn't realize it until it was too late and I had done an hour's worth of work without video rolling. Sorry, my bad!

THANKS! Worked great for my 2004 Freestar. The only thing I did different was to NOT take off the window glass rivets and I left the slider bar on the glass. I found another KZbin where a guy did that. There are two metal tabs bent up to keep the sliders from going off the end. (Probably only for storage at the factory.) When the tabs are bent back in, the two nylon sliders come off the end of the metal rack. I really liked your tape idea for the holding the window up. I used 2 pieces of duct tape..

Great Video :) I watched it B4 I did mine it helped thank you. .. have a 2000 windstar. I had to work on. The motor was fine the bolt that holds the trak to window came lose and fell out. I found it at the bottom of the door and put it back on. And it works fine... there was no rivits it was all hex wrench bolts

I gave you thumb up....only, because you did not give up!!=) Sorry to tell you, you don't have to take those rivets out from the glass, when you change regulator, those plastic sliders slide out. And , most of the times, nothing wrong with regulator, just jammed/ bad?? window motor, you can always open that up, clean or change brushes, and it works again ! When you change window motor, don't take any rivets out, jus drill 1/2 inches holes, where the punch marks are ( most of Ford/ Lincoln models), and take motor out, usually has 3 bolts, one is showing here, with a little stud, take the stud out first =) Other than that, good job ! youtheman....

Big E I have put two replacement motors on and it really looks like i am going to have to change out the regulator because it is binding and jamming. The aftermarket regulators appear to have different tracks from the OEM so should I try to get a genuine Ford regulator so I do not have to take the glass rivets and top horiz track off? I see the tab at the end of the glass track and it does appear that the slides will come out if that is bent down.

Correct, that is how you do it!!! Just bend that tab a little, it will slide out !=) No rivets involved,....usually at all !!!!

4:00 Same Problem. Haynes tells me to lower the window, in order to replace a broken motor and window actuator. If I could lower the damn window, would I be replacing them?

The only thing i did differently was buy a couple of suction cups from Harbor Freight instead of using tape.It worked much easier.

@11:35 That's an excellent strategy that has worked well for me. When things weren't going smoothly, I would sit down and light up a cigarette and "smoke it over". Of course, you can "melon it over" as well. I quit smoking long before they started putting carpet glue in the smokes to prevent them from burning (how ridiculous is that?)

I just did fathers... I left top track on window and just took it off of new one and slid new on old track ,fit perfectly..pain in you now what,never did one so hard. 😆

oh you know the whole putting the assembly in is absent that's really the most important part. im disappointed that that whole section is missing.

The Freestar, and Mercury Monterey, is full of 7 and 11 mm bolts...unlike most other cars that are all 8mm and 10mm. Losing my 10mm isn't a big deal with this vehicle.

If I just pull the motor off will the window slide down or will it stay up?

1weird Doe it has been a while since I’ve done this, but I’m 90% sure the window will slide down. The motor actually holds it up. A decent amount of blue painter’s tape will keep it up though without damaging the paint.
