I wish I had seen your video BEFORE I bought a replacement motor. You saved me sooo much frustration. The other vids I watched before yours have you remove all the guts in the door, your method is much quicker. I didnt see during removal where you removed the torx stud...I removed the nut from it and finally figured out I had to remove the stud. Thanks Again

I know I am late to the party, but this may be just what I need to do. 2003 Windstar: Driver's window goes down fine, but will not go up on its own. It has been that way for years. Didn't want to spend the money for the garage, and was scared to fix it myself. Thankfully the A/C works very well! After watching this video a couple of times, I think am going to get out there tomorrow and dig in. Hey, what can it hurt? ...It is busted anyway, right? LOL. Thanks fer the good, down to earth instructional video. --Cheers from Wisconsin--

Now this is a great instructional video for window repair. I usually end up breaking the darn clips that hold the panel on because they are so brittle.

Curious...what the actual problem was? And what the sanding actually accomplished? I'm planning on replacing mine myself, but didn't know if I just need to buy a new lift motor altogether? Or if I needed to be looking for a specific issue to resolve...like with the sanding? Thanks!

My problem is that when the window is up all the way it gets stuck and will not come down. I replaced the motor regulator and the video was very helpful with that but it still does it. I have lubricated the slides and just cannot figure out why the window locks in the up position. Only way to free it is to remove the panel and loosen the motor fasteners and then it works again until someone forgets and raises the window all the way up Hahah. Wondering if there is an adjustable stop on the motor regulator that needs to be adjusted maybe? I wish that I had kept the old motor to look at it! It will be too much trouble to pull this one back off to see hoping someone has some insight.....

Will the window slide down if I pull the motor out so I can drive it a while while working on the motor? Will it just stay where it is? Also, is there a windings protected fuse inside somewhere? Update: I kept banging the door closed while depressing the switch and down it went. I did get a whacky ohms reading previously that might have indicated the motor contacts were on a dead spot?

My personal opinion if you're going to go through the time of pulling it all apart you might as well put a new one in for the low cost of what they are. It beats having to pull it apart a few months down the road from the little life left on the brushes to put the new one in anyways. But this is good quick fix.

ok so i did this job on an ORIGINAL motor(276K) and the FIX was i soldered the LEADS from the 'CHIP" in the brush assembly which is meant as a FIRE DETERRENT if some idiot HOLDS the DOWN or UP too ;long!! it was SHOT so i just BRIDGED the contacts on the outside of chip and NOW motor works AGAIN!! they all have this "CHIP" i've fixed GM the same way!! of course NOW it's NOT idiot PROOF!! i polished armature with 320 and then 1000 grit no sense risking any unnecessary BRUSH WEAR!! !! putting armature back in brush assembly i used a SAFETY PIN to pry each brush as i twisted the armature back in to gearbox! another thing in order to get door lock button to line up when replacing panel i used a piece of foam rubber to hold it OUT so i could drop panel om easily! and i took speaker off to gain access to motor removal! my door had little DIMPLES where the (hidden)bolts should be the top dimple is OFF about 3/16 low and 1/8 right of hidden bolt! the bottom dimple is close enough! used half inch bit!

you need to beef up the sheet metal to avoid the same thing happening , when the inner door flexes it misaligns the motor.

thats funny being it a ford, I put a switch on mine same van a used motor , both motors work in place jumping them straight the window goes up and down how ever the motor only goes up connected up the right way and using the switch. I have determined its a ground wire , I checked the continuity of all the wires and they passed, I dont have the book to check the connector at the switch. by the way it only goes down from the drivers side also, connecting a test light clamping it to a ground a bolt on the door the connect has voltage on both terminals as you use the up and down switch I have yet to check it that way checking the ground but if I find its not got a ground I would not know what to do for it. see the connector going into the window motor only has two terminals so ground and positivie have to switch back and forth between them. not being a master tech when I find the ground on the one side is not showing, if i dont figure out what to do to fix that I will just tape two wires in on top the two wires going to the motor and use a jumper box to bring it down and disconnect all that and then it has no problem going back up . See the cincinnati Municipal garage had this van before me and they couldnt even fix it. its one of those things that is a dealer fix only . now having said all that I have to laugh at you saying no need to check it for working before putting it all back together but anyway good for you that it worked. I have to add this piece of shit ford van speedo did not show right miles per hour on the highway it would only get to thirty when you are doing sixty I changed both input and output on this van even thought the check engine light was not on. It worked both times right after the new sensor was installed but then went back to not working again. A true ford for you, But anyway good for you I am happy for you it worked seriously , have a great day. oh yeah , You got very very very lucky .
