Thank you so much for this video. It’s gonna help me. I was wondering how I was going to replace my broken antenna.

Just finished doing this job on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500. This tutorial was very helpful. The A pillar interior mounding pops off and allows you to see the cable connection. Only problem with this is that you can’t really grab the cable to pull it off due to its close proximity to the dash and window. Because of this I pushed the connection to a point where it was visible through the AC vent. Once it was visible I was able to put one hand through the AC vent and one through the glove box to apply enough pull force to unplug it initially. Once it was unplugged I was able to uninstall the old cable. I used the string method initially but my wire that I used was too large and it ended up letting loose from the new cable through the firewall. This isn’t as easy as conduit. If you end up using string, make sure it is small and very flexible as the space available is not much larger than the existing cable and has some tight turns. Once I lost the string I thought I was screwed but surprisingly just fishing the new cable through the firewall I was able to spot it from the inside. Not that bad. It helps to have a spotter doing this job, but it could be done with much frustration by yourself.

Let me add some critical information here: as you slowly push the new antenna wire into the hole at the firewall - the wire gets hidden behind a plastic moulding right up where the top door hinge is- on the inside- you have to bend that moulding back a bit and fish the antenna wire out of there with your fingers! I bought a new mount with a new wire - and all you need to do is drop the glove box door and reach high up to that top piece of moulding against the right fender, and bend the edge of it slightly to reveal the wire. And also the grommet (which I couldn't get in fully) is glued on to the antennae wire it doesn't slip - for a reason: when you've pushed the wire in all the way to the grommet, you know that the wire is pushed in the correct amount to reach on the other side. I took off the A/C vents just to get light up where I needed it but if you know exactly where to look for the wire - it saves you a long time trying to reach for it or fish it out with a wire (like I did unsuccessfully.).

With the glove box dropped down and me reaching as far in as I could behind that module and into trying to reach that fire wall and fish out that cable I was literally breaking pieces of something off. Small black plastic molded pieces off of something were just breaking off and falling down further behind the dash. I'll try your method tomorrow. I've given up for today. Defeated.

Any chance you have the part# for the base?

I appreciate your video, quite informative. Oh, and the best part was the sound of the train horn at the beginning.

Great to hear an account of what you did BUT sure would have been nice to watch it on video. I realize it may have been difficult to record and do the work but that's what those tech savvy kids are for! :). Thank you for the alternate way of doing this and with Randall's response below I hope it saves a lot of unnecessary work.

I have the same make and model and I just gave up about 5 minutes ago, came back in the house and watched your video and I'll give it another go tomorrow after work. I'm too frustrated right now. Was even thinking of taking the whole side fender panel off. I just cant get the new antenna cable to go any farther down once I get it through the hole. Cut my arm pretty good too, pulling the old cable out and prying out that little plug. Just way too much for one little cable.

Good morning! When I call Chevrolet dealership for my 2002 Chevrolet Silverado antenna mast, they give me part #15829166 but that fits the new body style and is not long enough. The body style on your Tahoe is the exact same as my truck, could you please point me in the direction of where you got the antenna mast or at least a part number?

I have the exact same problem but I can’t seem to get the new cable to feed through the hole in the firewall. If I could, it would be down hill from there. Any advice?
@scherdaddy656 жыл бұрын
Eric Robison I am hoping you taped some sort of pull string to the old one so you could transfer that string to the new cable to pull it back thru. without that I don't know. Even with a pull string I had to use limited electrical tape and wire lube. I had my son pull till it hit the hole then I reached in from the hood area to guide it into the hole as he slightly pulled.
