How to change an antenna base Silverado 14-18. Pluse driver grab handle

My antenna was ripped of at a carwash so I thought I'd share the repair. Also I added the driver side grab handle while I had everything apart. Like! Comment! Subscribe!

Helped me out for sure! Once I had the dash trim piece off, I tied a shoe string/taped it as well to the side you disconnect under the dash. I could feed it through one side to the other and never have to see exactly where it went, tie and tape the new end on, and pull the string!

There is an easier way that I discovered when I did this last week on my 2014 Silverado. I could not get the new cable back through the hole as there was too much other stuff in the way that blocked the hole. You have to contort your hand to get into the space where the hole is at. Instead, I ran the new cable through the fender, into a grommet that is just below the door hinge. Slice the grommet for the cable and feed it into the space above the dash. Took about 10 minutes to do, as opposed to over an hour trying to feed the cable through the hole it was meant to go through. Remember to carefully slice off the grommet on the new cable and plug the original hole so you do not get any water intrusion.

Good video. Just an FYI - it’s a good idea to replace the cabin filter located behind the bottom half of the glove box if you’re removing it. It’s behind the honey comb looking panel. People don’t realize it’s there and it gets really dirty and should be replaced every 3 or 4 years.

Lol. I came to find out what I had to do to replace my antenna. At the 5:13 mark, you just kinda through it out there, just unscrew it. I wasn't sure, so thanks for adding that 5 second bit of important info 😉👍

Well I finally succeeded in getting the cable thru the firewall, took alot of screwing around with an inspection camera and wrapping yellow electrical tape around the cable in order to see where it comes from along with a few other tricks to make it work thx for the original video

My cord broke that I ha tied to my antenna wire so now I’m onto just trying to feed it through the firewall. Any tips I have no idea where the wire goes once it’s pushed through that hole on the side of the firewall.

Remove the top dash with speaker coger and side andle covers tie a wire really tight to the old antera and pull it out, now tie the new antena and pull it in😉 you're welcome.....no need to remove glove boxes or fuse cover

Good Video. I tied mine and came apart when pulling thru. Spent TOO much time trying to send cable thru from firewall side-felt it stop, like hitting the heater box but could never find it or see it. I ended up removing grommet from under upper door hinge and sending the cable thru that way. Can see it and grab it thru the body opening where the wiring goes thru. The grommet on the new cable it the same size as the grommet I removed under the hinge so it seals. The grommet I removed plugged the factory cable hole(firewall side). Hope this method eases someone elses pain.

Lol....Thanks for the video Vincent.. I'm laughing because I just purchased a truck cover for my 2018 Silverado that "Did Not" come with any antenna hole fitting. So rather than taking a guess as to where to pop the hole (risking the hole being off center causing the cover to be applied lopsided), I figured let me go online and see how difficult it would be removing the antenna first. Well, 4 1/2 minutes into the video I'm thinking to myself, yeah this isn't going to happen. Just give me the Damn scissors, I'll cut the hole n hope for the best! Then, 5 min n 12 sec in to the video I hear, Oh n BTW, if it's just the antenna you're replacing, you can always just screw unscrew it!!!!.... I was like "WHEW" that was a close call!!!......lol....... Thanks Vincent!...👍

I gave up buddy, its going into a stereo shop I could only get it to come out on the drivers side of the blower assembly. Sound is insulation seems to be in the way. I might have one more crack at it but I really do not want to cut it out but i might do it I will let u know

After having my lead break I now have to feed it in from the engine side of the firewall. Once it goes through the hole where does the antenna go? I had all of it in but didn’t see it on the inside of the cab. Also got stuck after I fed it through so I’m worried that’ll happen again. It was stuck for a few hours wrestling with it and getting hand cramps. Anyone have any tips

Wow just went through this nightmare of a task. Not sure if the blower is larger in a 2500 or what but when I took the lower piece off below glove box there is no way to see the hole through the firewall behind it. Can barley get a finger behind there.

Did use some wire and had it pulled through but came off when pulling new cable in. Glad if did tho because had I kept pulling it prob would have ripped the cable anyway.

So I have a question, I've been trying to install my bullet antenna but I can't figure out how to remove the screw that the factory antenna sits on because the bullet antenna that I brought doesn't fit on the factory screw nor did it come with any direction's it did come with some adapters but I have no idea on how to remove the factory one have a 2015 gmc Sierra

Lol I took me like 15 min trying to find the cable under the dash. But if you look under with a flashlight and have some one push in and out just a few inches. You should see it move.

Brian Klein I just finished doing this with my truck, same body style as you. Once you have the upper dash trim piece off, tie a shoe string or some kind of sting string to the end you pull from the dash. Pull it out once you have that rubber piece through the hole, pull until it comes out. Take off the tape, tie a new knot, retape, and pull back through into the truck, making sure the taped part was fed through the part the rubber thing stops at. Hopefully that makes sense!

I didn't have to remove any insulation. When I removed the plastic piece at the bottom. The cord was there. I look for it. But I was able to find it

I have the entire cable up to the rubber grommet installed and I can’t find the cable inside the cab. I think I am going to try putting the entire antenna base under the dash and see if I get reception. I only use XM but not working how it should is driving me crazy

Yes that's all you have to take off. I was just removing everything that I thought was in the way butit wasnt actually that much that was needed. But it wasnt hard. It took a little frustration. But I was able to get it done.

I just had the exact thing happen, string came off. how exactly did you get the wire back through the firewall ??? To start it, you push in through the hole, from passenger side towards drivers side, then it seems like it has to made a 90 towards the interior of the vehicle

When you push it down. It should come out closer to the passenger side. If you go under with a flashlight you will see it and have a friend move it in and out about 1/2 and inch and you'll see it move

Did you have that to fight with as well ? I've looked closely at several different videos and the cable looks like it possibly feeds through the passenger side of the firewall not directly behind blower fan I really do not want to have to remove my whole dash just to feed this through

Genius comment. My antenna wouldn't un screw so I bought the whole assembly thinking I was gonna have to go through all of this for just a base. Pulled new wire from new base and it came right out. Now I'm gonna remove old base with stuck antenna unplug wire and plug into new base. Minutes instead of hours.
