An interesting observation I noticed. I'm not sure how many people noticed it, but after listening to many games with Pat and John, Pat Summerall sounds much more excitable and enthusiastic in his final full season-2001-than any of the others before then. This game is a prime example, and it's refreshing to hear. He must've known that he was to retire at the end of the season, so he wanted to savor each and every moment he had.

What’s funny is that Super Bowl 36 was supposed to be the final game he ever called, but because of Madden going to ABC and Fox having a shortage of play by play guys, they lured Pat out of retirement and he worked pretty much the entire 2002 season with Brian Baldinger, mainly calling Cowboys games due to his residency in the city. He was also called upon to commentate the first four weeks of ESPN Sunday Night Football in 2004 due to Mike Patrick recovering from heart surgery. Pat Summerall has always been my favorite sports commentator, of course I’m also a big fan of guys like Gus Johnson, those who get excited and enthusiastic about a big play but Summerall had a style of commentary that was just perfect in my opinion, that baritone voice and calmness he had about him that made every game he called feel like the most important game in the world at the time, and he complimented John Madden perfectly, the best duo in the history of sports broadcasting. I do agree about what you said in this game however, 2:05:36 is probably the most excited I’ve ever heard him get. That could be because it was supposed to be his last season and he wanted to enjoy it to the fullest, or maybe he just got really invested due to the atmosphere of Veterans Stadium and it was opening day, one of my favorite days of the year.

@@jamiejohnson4524 Yep. And Pat Summerall didn't do us any favors counting how many different white jerseys missed the ball. I loved to hate those Kurt Warner Rams teams, I was thrilled when Brady knocked them off in 2001. If only I knew what he would turn into

Eagles fans are notorious for not only being sore losers but also for being total dirtbags. Not all of them but a significant percentage of them are trash human beings. I’ve heard stories of young children attending Eagles games wearing jerseys of the other team and the Philadelphia fans will boo and jeer that kid until he starts crying. A person like that is a waste of semen

Warner, Faulk, Holt, and Bruce sure made for excitement in St. Louis. The NFL got their team in the large market of L.A. but St. Louis should have never been penalized and awarded an expansion team with their new stadium all set to build. An owner would have been found. It took the Stan Kroenke indemnification agreemnt for Kroenke to fund NFL owners if there there would be any lawsuits out of St. Louis, which did then follow.

The sequence at 2:06:27 perfectly sums up the Eagles of the 2000s. They were always very good, but not good enough when it mattered most. I counted 7 white jerseys that had a legitimate chance at recovering the ball, and the Rams still came up with it. The Eagles won a lot of regular season games, had great players and coaches, and were staples of the postseason throughout that decade, but when the pressure was at it’s highest, they always came up short.

Quick observation. The Eagles got a tad screwed at the end of regulation here. After the McNabb first down scramble with under a minute left and the clock ticking one Ram (Bly) was down & injured and another was stumbling off the field. I think by rule the clock should’ve stopped there but instead it continued to run down to the :32 second mark. Not sure why the refs didn’t stop the clock or add more time back on…and Andy Reid should have been screaming for this! The Eagles lost at least a dozen seconds (maybe more) that could’ve really helped them to get into David Akers FG range.
