@@OfficialRingWurmRacing how'd your bike build go bud? I was 10 years old when I got my first bike which was a 25 year old 1980 Honda cr80 at the time for 100 bucks with a blown top end. Me and my dad got it running and I loved that bike so much. A few years later and new bike I started racing motocross and cross country. I miss those days alot and to this day I regret ever getting rid of that thing. I'd love to do a restoration on it now that I'm older.

Replace the exhaust cam with HotCams with autodecompression and make sure valves are in spec. I also did the bog mod on the carb, and give it 2 good rotations on the throttle to get the fuel pump to spray in some gas, pull out the choke, and I can crank my 01 YZ426f in 3 or 4 kicks every time when cold.

Just some advice... When you have a bike that hasn't been started in that long, First thing you should do is buy a new spark plug, No matter how nice it looks. Get some fresh oil and a filter that's specific for the bike you have. Drain the coolant and flush the radiators and put some fresh antifreeze in it. Drain whatever's in the gas tank and get some fresh super gasoline. Clean and oil/ Buy a new air filter. Take the carb apart and thoroughly clean it. And never hold the throttle wide open when kicking a 4 stroke. Glad u got it to run thou. Be safe out there riding man!

RAYMOONDOE 215 I really feel the same way. I'm actually very good at this myself and I can spot "talentlessnes" from a mile away and this is the good stuff. There is allot of videos with people who think they are good enough to be teaching when they for a trained eye are are fooling senseless around. I think it is a product of having told that all they do is good by the parents mixed with a high degree of narcissism and the believer that they will be KZbin starts. It actually irritates something out of me because it can bring people who want to do a good job allot of headaches when all they do is trying to get knowledge and learn how to do it right. This guy is not trying too he is good. I will add that there are allot of other guys that are very skilled but they hide between allot of other " bad word" stuff.

I remember when this bike came out. I was confused with the 426cc was wondering why they didn’t do a 450.
@juandiaz4116 Жыл бұрын
Because the yz400f was enough since at the time 550cc where still been allowed to race but yamaha uped the displacement to 426cc knowing others were aiming at the 400f so they did to buy time they simply went to a bigger bore 95mm vs 92mm for 400f since to get to 450 it needed to be stroked also so they waited till 03 when the ama lowered the limit to 450cc to make the new engine

little late now but make sure to completely take apart your carb. after removing the bowl you will find 4 more screws on each corner that allows you to remove the mid section of the carb giving you access to a couple more jets. Make sure the carb shoots fuel into the engine when the throttle is opened up and hope your pilot jet is still set from factory.. if it still wont start check spark and timing.. Last but not least the 450 cam mod is a must have for these bikes.

defianetly clean the air filter and your idle/stalling problems or any bogging or hanging of the idle is all in the carburetor!. The jet sizes and fuel screw and idle screw etc.. If you adjust those perfectly your bike will run 99 times better! for a couple dollars in jets and like 3 hours. Also here are a few things you should do to the bike (I'm telling you this because this is what you should do when you buy a used bike): Clean/ re-grease the linkage, bleed the front brakes, change out the radiator fluid, set the suspension to your weight and riding style (tutorials on youtube), change rear brake fluid, clean/lubricate the throttle and clutch cable. Then heres some things I noticed: Replace the rims, spokes, rotors, chain and sprockets, re-pack the silencer, new plastics/graphics, new grips. And by the way don't run water in your radiator!!! Use something like maxima racing coolant or something. Also, replace the fork seal. And then any rusty bolts whatsoever on the bike should be replaced with new ones. And finally get a new front and rear axle. That should do the trick! Then get riding and enjoy!

Boy. I deal mostly with 70s bikes. It's kind of shocking to see what looks to me like a "brand new" bike to be in old, neglected, vintage condition. The march of time is truly relentless.

Have this bike. Use the compression release a quarter through cycle. Then kick. Starts first kick every time.

All that kickstarting and sore foot reminds me why I traded my yz450 for a drz400. Electric start and street legal plates on a dirt bike is awesome. Of course you need to throw the cv carb in the trash and put the keihin carb on it.

The front fender has that hole in it so you can get more mud in your face. It helps to make you feel like a more accomplished rider.
