ive seen tons of kids spray paint their bikes. the chance of coming across a painted bike thats stolen is much less likely but ya it happens. over my life ive literally bought hundreds of bikes i usually look up the vin on them and i can count on one hand the ones that were reported stolen. guess how many were spray painted lol. And yes some probly werent reported but still its pretty rare.

Unbreakable motor. We've had a version of this on the ranch for decades and it just goes and goes. I always put a bit of Techron through it now and again, we did upgrade the clutch a while back. I figure my grandson will learn on it one day.
@Jacob-wr7ch7 жыл бұрын
Wow looks like I got a shitty deal. I bought a 1998 XR100R for $400. I bought it used as my first dirt bike. I didn't know much about dirt bikes at all back then. It ran and it was a little dirty but that's it. I went ahead and bought it, and within a few days it completely stopped working. It wouldn't start. Turned out it had low compression. Air was coming out of the intake. So I completely tore the bike apart. After tearing down the top end, I found that the intake valve bent. I then investigated more and saw that the upper cam sprocket was really worn down. So I'm guessing that it went out of timing and the piston smacked the valve. Luckily the piston was fine. So I replaced the valves and the cam sprocket. That was all I really needed to do to get it running again. But I decided to completely restore it. I installed a new drive chain and sprockets, a new spark plug, a new head and base gasket, new foot pegs, a new skid plate, new fork boots, a new number plate, a new front brake cable, a new rear tire, a new rear fender, and a new chain guide. And I changed the oil with fresh 10w-30 full synthetic. I also repainted the frame to make it white again. Some jackass painted it black. And I cleaned it up the best way I knew how. I know I'm putting in way more money than I'll get out if it, but it's a good little bike that deserves some love. I'm pretty sure the previous owners didn't even change the oil in it.
@jenniesgarage7 жыл бұрын
It's a shame that your machine was neglected, but the education you've given yourself is worth much more than the cost of the parts. And you have a motorcycle that you know is sorted out correctly. Thanks for checking out the video.

Now that the brake line is broken lose and cleaned with the WD40, a heavier oil is needed to lubrication to stay in the sleeve for further protection later on down the road, reinstall and back in business and the oli will lubricate it from further rusting issues, if kept maintenance up with more oil once in a while.

For oiling old cables, I cut the corner off of a baggie, slide the top end of the cable up into the baggie and zip tie or tape. I then add oil to the baggie and let it soak overnight (usually ATF).

@conorhutch51688 жыл бұрын
Stephen Kamp I myself also work on small engines like this guy. The thing is just to watch different videos on KZbin and watch different programmes on TV like wheeler dealers to learn about engines. Also save up and buy yourself a non running motorcycle or anything with a small engine so you can learn more about engines. I recently swapped for a 110cc pitbike which was a non runner and learned a lot about engines from that bike. So my advice would be to watch videos on KZbin, watch car programmes on TV and save up and buy yourself something that's non running and fix it up. It's all a learning curve!
