2002 Anaheim 3 250cc Heat 2 Jeremy McGrath Vs. Ricky Carmichael

Watch as Yamaha's Jeremy McGrath and Honda's Ricky Carmichael battle it out in the 2nd heat of the night at Anaheim 3 in 2002. Coming into this round, Carmichael had won his first race of the 2002 season at Phoenix (the previous round), while McGrath finished a dismal 6th place (which was his best finish of the '02 season until Atlanta). Now, the Supercross world got to see a battle between the 2 rivals after Carmichael stole McGrath's thunder the previous season in 2001.

I'm amazed how the quality of videos from the 1920's have nearly perfect clarity and in 2002 you could barely make out the number plates.

@@MathewVsSportsMediaandGames no this is exactly what it looked like back in the day watching it on TV. This is about the time H.D. and flat screen TV's started coming around. In the 90s it was hard to tell who was who because the picture was so bad.

@MathewV21688 One of the main reasons for me why SX was better back then was 2 strokes, they take more skill to ride fast. These days 450's have to much traction and way to much power. I still believe McGrath would of had something for RC in the 2002 season if he didn't have the testing crash before the season causing a pinched nerve in his back by memory.

In a way, yes. As someone who got used to the numbers everyone had, it was easy for me to remember who was who -- especially with the new number system taking place for the 2000 season.

I used to love watching Carmichael when I was a kid, then my parents said ill never own a motorcycle so I gave up watching.. Wish I didn't and I'm buying my first bike within the next year! Livin my dreams

yeah, basically we had family die on a bike, and they blame the bike more than the rider (he hit a tree, but idk if he was dirt biking, on the road, or anything, just know he hit a tree) and they wouldnt allow me too. but i shall own a bike soon!

No argument from this corner. McGrath certainly took the sport to a brand new level, and if it wasn't for him, we would never have known Supercross as a common sport.

@@MathewVsSportsMediaandGames for sure McGrath gave my brother his jersey off his back in 98 in Michigan at the Superdome my brother was dying from cancer and eventually passed away at 18 yrs old but Jeremy spent time talking and hanging out with him in the pits!

I wouldn't say "let" pass; MC tried EVERYTHING to get by Ricky and he just couldn't do it. Unfortunately, that would be the story until McGrath hung it up just days before A1 2003.
